Fun fact: The original game had over 40+ uniquely designed weathers for each area/district/city/state in the game, which were so well designed that you could tell each area apart by the colors alone. They also appropriated a lot of the unique real world attributes of their respective locations, such as east coast woods often being foggy, nevada having thick white haze across it, southern states having bright starry nights, north mountain states being very cold and snowy with lots of ice on the roads, midwest areas having a humid sunny stormy weather, san fran being very foggy, cities at night having light pollution, etc... Since Wild Run, they removed ALL of them, and now the game has one single weather for the entire map, with a rain variation (which all it does is just increase the fog density of the default weather, and enable rain particles and wEt rOaDs, that's it. I looked through the weather config file myself)

Call me crazy, but I actually kinda like the old version better. The snow felt more like a blizzard and felt colder, the lighting didn't blow out everything that's supposed to look heavily shaded, like swamps and dense forests. It just felt less bleached out looking with the old lighting, really.

Because the game was entirely and carefully built with such visual design in mind (and the story and UI and music and etc), but then some absolutely stupid people complained that the game looks too "outdated" and ivory tower decided to make the game look generic. You can clearly tell it's a rushed job because some UI elements have clearly changed to a generic transparent black rectangle style while others still look like the original grungy UI design, which is very inconsistent. And also every single different area in the game had a unique color palette, so you could tell approximately where you are by the color palette. Sadly they took that out entirely. Also the game had more stylish screen effects such as the dirty lens and the lens flares (2:28) which just made the overall image look much better than now. It's really upsetting to me as a huge fan of TC1, I wish they just brought the original graphics back :\

@this guy Bro, i bought the ultimate edition a few months back and i honestly enjoyed it a lot. Forza horizon is an xbox exclusive so on ps4 the crew is actually one of the better open world racing games racing. I still play it now time to time and i like it a lot more than the crew 2 tbh. Somehow the older game feels superior in most ways😂.

I'm one of the few people who prefer the old graphics more. They look more nostalgic and more memorable. Now In 2023, I think the OLD graphics of TC1 look better than TC2. Plus in TC1 you have way more traffic, the draw distance is lower, and makes the world feel even bigger (In TC2 you can see Chicago, Detroit, Washington, and even bits of Miami from NYC). I just prefer the vibe of the original more than the newer ones that's all.

I agree with you. Sadly, I never got to enjoy the original intended look, but I would have downgraded if possible any day. At 0:36, that transition to the mountains looks so UGLY in Wild Run, the improved draw distance ruined the expansive feel and made aliasing look awful. I would pay $30 for The Crew 1 Original with offline capability, the game would be such a blast on the Steam Deck.

Wild Run itself was an expansion for The Crew, adding new specs, bikes and a Horizon like festival, the graphics update was for everyone. I myself am very happy about the "new" graphics (it came out december 2015), but sometimes I miss the dense fog in the older game

Really nice job on the different scenarios you showed :) I'm just wondering if i'm the only one who noticed the following points? 1. In most scenes the amount of particle effects emitted from the car (dust, water slashing, etc) have been greatly reduced - i personally don't think this now looks better. 2. The crash scene in the older version had glass and body collision effects, the new version had barely any. 3. There seems to be a lot more sun spot / ray and bloom effects in all scenes, which makes it harder to see. 4. Along with point 3 above there are a lot more on screen effects (like water drops on your TV / PC screen when raining), this makes it much harder to see what coming. It seems all they did was increase the world detail textures (specifically trees and mountains), but reduce the effect details. Personally i would have preferred it the other way around. It also seems that the Wild Run expansion would actually make the game harder to play (from a strictly objective point of view).

I never played The Crew pre-WR, I got the game after that expansion came out (I don't own Wild Run and Calling All Units though, just the Season Pass DLC which gives me access to a few extra cars). So overall, I didn't realize how bad WR was until I started looking at what the differences were, and damn, I wish I could've played pre-WR The Crew. It looks better than post-WR. So one of the main things was that they switched to an updated renderer that was incompatible with some of the previous one's shaders and stuff. And it seems like they kinda just half-assed everything with graphics. For example, the new renderer added in PBR materials, but then they didn't actually update materials properly to use PBR, so a lot of stuff, mostly the cars themselves, looked like crap. The lighting got updated too but it makes things look like crap too. Apparently, each region of the map had different lighting and weather options (I'm talking like 30+ unique weathers total across the map for each region) to make that specific area pop out, as well as color correction and post processing. So if you were in a certain State, or like if you were in the Mountain States versus the Midwest, you could actually feel the difference between each region. So each State or region felt unique in its own way and stood on its own. With the new lighting update, they seemed to basically use the same lighting and colors for the entire map, basically everything looks desaturated and is lit in this cold, cyan lighting. Looks kind of eh, but now all the areas of the map feel exactly the same. Also, rain was added in, but it kinda looks crappy. Instead of the 30+ unique weathers, we now only have just a couple that are all pretty much the same (sunny, overcast, foggy, and rain/storm). What makes it worse is that EVERY weather option besides the sunny weather will add in wet roads, which already don't look that good, but it means 90% of the gameplay has wet roads. Like literally, I went into photo mode and tested this. Sunny was dry roads, I switched to overcast weather and overcast was wet all of a sudden, fog was wet, rain was wet, etc. So that was a little annoying. They also changed the road textures. Before, there were a on ton of unique road textures, decals and details for different areas of the map. Even different parts of the same city would feel different because they used different textures. But with the update they basically just used the same 2 or 3 road textures pretty much EVERYWHERE, again making the map feel less unique, especially combined with lighting and weather. The other thing is I think landscape and terrain textures are a lot more similar to each other, too. I saw some side-by-side footage of pre-WR and WR and noticed that Red Rock, an area of the map that's more red and deserty (especially thanks to lighting and weather), now looked a lot more grassy and looked similar to the Midwest. In fact, that's pretty much how it looked now, was that the majority of the map just felt like the Midwest. It's like they tweaked weather, lighting, and textures for the Midwest area with the WR update and then just pasted that everywhere else. They also changed the draw distance and skybox/sky textures, the new one looked more blue and the clouds looked kind of eh, but the old skybox had a LOT of sky and cloud textures, colors, and other amazing details overall. Most of which, again, were tied to different areas of the map. Night time especially looked great, too. Traffic density was also reduced drastically so there's not as much traffic, making cities especially feel a bit more dead. Traffic cars were also replaced, there were a lot more unique traffic cars that were also more detailed with better colors and models, and even had damage too, but now there's only a couple traffic cars post-WR used everywhere, and most of the traffic cars for some reason were just copy-pasted/reused from Watch Dogs. So yeah, places like New York felt kinda eh now with less traffic. I also prefer the old HUD before Wild Run, looks more unique and 3D compared to what we got afterwards. I'm sure there's also a bunch of other things I'm missing, but overall they changed a lot. I'm surprised a lot of people prefer post-WR, considering WR seems to have broken a lot of existing stuff and everywhere in the map feels exactly the same now.

I have The Crew xbox 360 and I think the graphics are quite good, unlike many others lol. Sure the graphics could be improved but for the immense size of this map, endless exploring capabilites, awesome variety of landscape from the cites to the snow capped mountains, deserts etc, for that alone I think its worth buying. I would like to say congrats to the makers of this game, for making such a huge map, with great detail.

Not sure how i feel still about the update from what im seeing and hearing. I mean yes, I definitely enjoy the upgrades and focus on the environment and weather. But at certain points in terms of the car graphics, it both gives and takes. I noticed in the interior for the spyker that yes the lighting is more natural and reacts better to the environment in wildrun, but the detail is lost. I can't see the etchings or the stiching any more. And I do love the atmospheric sound update. But sometimes, and only some, the focus on the car engine in the original version was better. Still neat to see such a huge overhaul.

Holy crap it looks like two different games :O I'm so glad i only started playing this AFTER WIldrun came out or i probably would have stopped playing it very quickly and never bought the expansion. A small FYI to people thinking of buying this game, i know alot of reviewers are complaining about the rubber-banding of the controls. This will not be an issue if you drive with bumper, hood or dash camera. I get the rubberbanding feel in in 3rd person view even if i'm playing forza or Project Cars so i never play with that view either way. But if you are a person who regularly play in hood or dash cam anyways, you will not experience the poor rubber-banding alot of people are talking about.

The colors are all washed out, the game world has far less atmosphere and character, the fog effect in the snowy mountains is ruined, and the best part: rain is still falling on your head even when you're going through a tunnel. The Crew: Wild run on pc is in my experience, the best optimized game both for performance and graphics. On my pre-built Acer Predator G3-710 I am able to play the game in 4K at a constant 60 fps cap. I have never had any framerate issues or stutter, it is the most fun exploration experience as well, I once tried to drive from Miami to Las Vegas with my fullstock SLR Mclaren going as fast as I could with one break, took me 24 minutes. I have not seen a racing game with such a large map since FUEL on xbox 360.

Guys HELP Because i think ill buy the The Crew Wild Run and i didn't have The Crew before,so there is Customize,Cars (especially Lambos!),etc the same like in The Crew ???

The Crew Wild Run is way better than the original, the only thing I hate is the rain that stay for hours and the fact that the roads takes hours to dry and when the road just finished to dry, it rain again !

Even thou these are old, as for today's date they are both my favorites, everything else out just try's to hard with the graphics now and the gameplay blows balls. Just a thought Thanks =)

+shabala baki an expansion pack (dlc) expands and adds more features which are really worth it if you want to add more lets say story to the game and adventures too. the game has the map and many cars already but the wild run adds new sports racing and bikes and even some graphics updates and more
