The thing I found ironic about the ending's of RDR1 and RDR2. Both of the main antagonist's deaths were brought about because they went 1 step too far. This is assuming the high honor, go with john, is the canon ending of RDR2. But, if Micah didn't go back to beat Arthur and try to kill him. John would've never gone back to kill Micah. If Edgar Ross just left John and his family alone after the death of Dutch, Ross would've retired in peace. But he had to kill John to complete his line of work. Which ultimately would lead to his own death at the hands of the very child he caused so much pain towards. Jack would've never became a gunslinger if Ross didn't push the matter further. Also, John would've remained in hiding, if Micah didn't go back to kill Arthur. Both individuals let their ego's get the best of them and it resulted in their death's.

Really, Ross represents the brilliance of the writing in RDR. Just about every character straddles the line of morality and thus, perception of the these characters is determined largely by the player and their actions. If you play the game honorably, then Ross is a straight villain. No questions asked. However, if you play the game with low honor, basically having John resume the life of a violent outlaw, then suddenly Ross becomes sympathetic. It’s a shame that morale ambiguity has to be ruined by RDR2. The lack of detail regarding what John did as part of the gang made the plot of RDR better.

We have to remember, Red Harlow use to go after gangs like the Van Der Linde’s. Ross certainly did things in a very bad way, but as much as we love John & the other members, we cannot deny that they hurt an enormous amount of people over the years, probably orphaned a bunch of kids or took someones loved one away
@ELIZABETHMARLONE20055 күн бұрын
Ross even points that last fact you said out to John in the story of RDR1 repeatedly and there was never really a guarantee that John wouldnt go back to his old ways remember he says multiple times that he still respect's Dutch meaning John never really left that mindset that got him in the predicament in the first place

Been playing rdr2 and playing rdr1 again when I get done May not be my first time doing this, this might just be my 100th time playing through these games I lost track a long time ago, but even after that I love and cherish these games the same way I did when I first played them, and my love for this universe will never stop, it’s everything I want from a video game

Rip Van Winkle was the protagonist of a short story, who fell asleep one night and wakes up 20 years later, after drinking heavily with a mysterious character. He missed every event of note in those 20 years, including the American revolution and needs to understand and adapt to the new world. That "Rip Van Winkle" line also shows that the people bringing "civilization" to the West were less cultured and civilized than the "barbarians" they were hunting, since Milton doesn't seem to catch Marston's jest. I believe the "Mysterious stranger" that Van Winkle meets in the story was the inspiration for the stranger Marston meets in RDR 1.

That line from Ross to Jack was good foreshadowing that I never noticed. 🤔 Ross describes his own demise at the hands of Jack; more or less. Truly a fine example of the attention to detail Rockstar gives their games.
@werewolffamguy859718 күн бұрын
Something I never noticed until my current playthrough...after Ross threatens Jack, Arthur reaches for his holster and the camera zooms in the same way it does when you draw your gun. Arthur nearly ended Milton and Ross right there, with their backs turned. The only thing that stops him is that he doesn't want to traumatize Jack.

From any point of view except the protagonists, Edgar Ross is the good guy. It’s just that we always play an outlaw and he’s very much a lawman. Dutch killed that innocent girl and caused a massacre in Blackwater, and John took the gold the only thing left for Ross to chase after.

Edgar’s presence towards Milton’s side made the agent grown more aggressive against the Dutch gang. Even to the point that Milton resorts towards using machine guns to kill everyone in the Lakay. Leaning towards no mercy. Maybe it was Edgar who encounters Micah and made Micah turn rat. As Micah was an opportunist who wanted that blackwater treasure. It because the heavy Pinkerton presence prevents the Dutch gang from returning, Micah was only stuck to hanging out with the Dutch gang. Until he gets his treasure. And perhaps turn Dutch in as a bonus. Opportunist he is. He would twist Dutch into becoming the monster he actually turned out to be. Also due to Hosah’s death, Micah would fill that adviser role. Devolving the gang from family into a group of nervous survivors. Ross could’ve influenced his later junior agent Fordham. As well as the entire national bureau of Investigation. At least in the country’s pre world war 1 history. In this case. The gta verse, the states in rdr world map. Are part of the country of Aquila. A confederation of states and some republics. A former British colony who later had a civil war, seeks Britain for aid and in exchange becomes the trading partner of the Americas and Mu continent. A new world trading partner. Which the USA would fear British influence within. It’s the CSA but it has the north states. Slavery would be abolished in 1899. And world war 1 has the USA war against Aquila and later the interwar turned Aquila into a syndicalism state. Later it wars against the neighboring state of Elysia and even Mexico. As the USA suffered an attack from Japan and therefore declares war against the axis nations. Mexico would make sure the syndicalists are eliminated. Worrying Aquila would get Axis help, the USA must aid Mexico and Elysia to fight against syndicalist Aquila. Mexico does come out as the victor of the fourth Elysian-Aquilan war. Elysia and Mexico decide to split Aquila into two. Elysia and Mexico would rule the north and the exiled confederate government ruling the south. And Mexico Elysia has both us and Mexican foreign aid. Being the richest nation of the Mu continent.
@elperrodelautumo751126 күн бұрын
Ross is a historical figure who actually changed the investigation agency for the better and worse. The lands of rdr would be part of the present day south Aquila. Keeping the confederate states name in spirit of the original state preceding it before. The north that’s the original Aquila happens to be more of a tamed state. And Mexico was a us client state and would become a regional power. But still relies on the United States for trade and development. Mexico keeps Aquila divided in fear of another group of vengeance driven reactionaries. Mexico would expand military bases beyond the Americas and Mu. New Sunda would be the island east of the Philippines for housing both American and Mexican overseas military bases. Until the 1980s when the Philippines would prefer Japanese military bases and soldiers present due to Japan’s economic and military rise in the Asia pacific region. Also Mexicos grip have focused on the drug wars and decide to let the USA hold on into New Sunda alone.

I like to think Ross wears his Pinkerton Badge because at the time the Pinkerton Agency was still well known, and to the common man the difference between the pre-FBI, and Pinkerton Agency's badges might have looked similar. As for clothes. Comfy and imposing. He had that already.

I feel like a badass intro to Jack Marston older is him holding a piece of newspaper scrap saying “John martson last of van Der linde gang dead” over Abigail’s and John’s grave and when you press “back” to put it away the iconic rdr guitar string plays

36:17 As much of an ass as Milton was he was just doing his job in trying to stop a criminal gang. But Ross forced John, who'd put his past behind him to go after Bill, Javier and Dutch by holding Abigail and Jack hostage then had John killed anyway.

If Charles Manson, left the family behind and tried to go straight after the murders.....would you have wanted him let go? How about Bundy? Gayce? Any other seriel killer. "They still committed dozens of murders. But come on, hes a rancher now guys, leave him alone!" Its a ridiculous prospect. John is evil. And planting a few crops on a dirt farm doesnt change that.

So, what if the gang did as Milton said. Handing Dutch and they were left alone. Milton doesn't seem twisted, until he has no other option. Ross has other options, but choses what he feels glorifies him. So lets say this. Milton got Dutch, and everyone lives civilized, until Milton retires and Ross ultimately takes over, and he will eventually bring the rest of the gang down, because he still be glorified by it.
