I've read or heard that phrase a number of times. But somehow I don't understand it. I'm German and my English isn't the best. "Don't need a Man", or "Do need no Man", I would understand, but "I don't need no man". I don't understand. The "don't" is a negation, "do not need it" And the "No Men". Also a negation. Now that's two negations in one sentence. The rule is that two negations cancel each other out. So the sentence "I don't need no man" actually means "I do need a man".
