We've been saying it for years now. The studios won't give it to us because it didn't do well financially at the theaters but critically it's smashed. The reason why it didn't do well at the theaters is because people think it's tied to the old Sylvester Stallone film AND They forget when it came out. It was literally off the back of the first avengers film. It was in the same year and Avengers was still in theaters when Dredd came out.

But, Game of death with Bruce Lee might have been the first movie where our hero has to reach multiple levels/floors was a thing in movies. The NES game Kung Fu also copied that. Tom-Yum-Goong (The Protector) (2005) with Tony Jaa also copied/inspired by the Game of death. Either way they are all classics in my mind.

Dredd is my personal favorite film based on a comic book. It's also one of my top 10 fave films of all time. I found it to be beautifully filmed, intensely acted and directed, and the complex characters inside a simple story.

Great movie with a tight script and solid acting/characters. Olivia Thirby's role was perfect to play off of Dredd and help engage the audience and, through their banter, add to the world building without gross exposition. Although RoboCop had his own identity, it's pretty obvious how much of an influence Dredd was on that character. Another solid video

Actually in the comic Dredd will kill you for the tiniest thing.. probably even for littering..but what the movie got right was we are never to see Dredd's face.. Stallone had too much ego not to show his dumb face...but you're right about this movie.. it's multilayered with cool things..also standard action??? What..the bullet going through the guy's cheek in slo-mo, the giant gatlin gun shooting at Dredd as he's running around is one of the most awesome scenes in cinema!!

I always thought the most badass moment was where Maa Maa does her rant and threat, kill me and a bomb will kill blah blah blah, and he just shoots her. He’s not there to negotiate or listen to her demands, he’s just a future cop and she’s just a drug dealer, and he’s there to dispense justice according to the law, not protect and serve the citizens, to him that’s just a byproduct. Then he throws her off the building and waits to see if his guess about the range and concrete blocking the signal was correct. When he doesn’t explode he carries on with his day, because this was just one drug bust, then he gives his assessment of the trainee and goes off to continue his shift at work.

Thrash metal band Anthrax in the 90s did a song based on the Dredd comics called I Am The Law. And yes this movie was ultraviolence perfection. They used special HD cameras for the slow-mo shots. Also, there was a Batman/Dredd crossover graphic novella (scarecrow & Judge Death being the villians) that you'd probably enjoy drawn by Simon Bisely (I think...the guy that drew Hulk for awhile then Maxx; the Heavy Metal 2000 artwork was based off of his style)

Another banger that stayed getting looped on my laptop. How the megacity lore worldbuilding was done in this movie gave it the characterization that reminded me that this anime called Gangsta adaption could work in using Dredd as a template. Even the drug used in the movie had visual personality depth when used. Lena killed it as the ruthless head honcho. Just the realization we on the same page as I'm watching the video.

Everytime I watch ur vids I get more respect for u. I LOVE DREDD!!! This is hands down one of the most badass films of the last decade, fuck it, one of the best films made in the 21st century! It has everything you’d want in a modern day action film great dialogue, great characters, great action, brutal violence, Olivia Thirlbry🔥😍, and the world building is incredible. This is how u make cinema Hollywood!!! I even personally enjoy the Dredd we got with Stallone but this film deserves a whole trilogy. Man fuck critics, I’m really tired of them having any sort of legitimacy when all I ever see them do is praise the slop and act like the actually competently made films are fan films or “mindless action” gtfo. It’s so sad this film didn’t do well, I remember watching it when I was a teenager. I’m just now finding out it didn’t do well at the box office, I always assumed it just didn’t get a sequel for whatever reason. I agree with u on Karl Urban, he’s always stealing the camera with whatever scene he’s playing in, a phenomenal actor. Karl could easily play an old Batman in his 50s.
