I knew the founders of Crocs at Boulder Country Club. Everyone told them the shoes were dogshit and nobody would ever buy them. One of the first few hundred non-defects to roll out I wore on a vacation to the Outer Banks and people wouldn't stop asking me about them. The rest is history. Pretty incredible what it turned into. Back in high school I was in a marketing club and one of the role-play prompts I had at a competition was to help crocs make a comeback. They labeled crocs as shoes for “doctors and professionals” in the prompt and that obviously wasn’t helping them sell any. So my idea was to market them as a fun novelty shoe for teens to stand out. The judge later gave my presentation poor marks saying it was unrealistic because kids would never want to wear them. So this whole crocs comeback thing has stung a bit for me…

I bought 15 pairs of these weird croc flip flops back in 2015, these are the most useful fucking shoes ever, they stopped making them after I bought them lol so I’m glad I bought so many. I currently have 12 left, one pair broke after I hiked 400 miles of the Appalachian Trail and then did some rock climbing and the toe strap broke. Still fucking amazing, the 1 and a half inch soles had worn down to less than half a centimeter by the time I’m done with them. I don’t expect crocs to start making these again, but I think I literally have a lifetimes supply of them so I’m good hahahaha just felt like sharing

My first pair was that bright yellow! One of my teachers had them in green as her doctor suggested them, and I loved them. I have 3 pairs from 2007-2009 ish, and I'm still kinda salty they changed their recipe when they closed all their North American factories. Mine are made in Canada, cost much less than they do now, and even with bite marks from my cat, and some splatters of paint from old craft projects, they're still the best thing to wear in public showers, and on days when it's too hot to wear normal shoes. Or, of course, on boats as they were intended.

I’m amazed there was ever a time where crocs was in trouble financially, I mean it’s the perfect shoe for water and stuff like that. I mean sandals suck everything else like that sucks pool shoes or whatever they’re called suck Crocs are like the only ones that are good. The one problem with crocs is ever since I got my current size foot so probably like eight years ago I’ve had the same pair of camouflage crocs so they are not making much money off me until that things strap breaks, but I just don’t go to the pool as much anymore so I don’t know if they’ll ever break. if youve ever worked at place where your shoes are getting constantly wet - such as outside mowing grass - you would understand how the planned obsolescence of shoes actually works on hoping you get your shoes constantly wet. You would also know that your feet need air if they get wet. Oh and your feet need comfort to work well. Crocs check all of those boxes.
