Payloader works good for digging rocks. We used a rock bucket on a front end loader for bigger rocks but smaller rocks we use a rotary degelman. Degelman makes a rock tooth machine that you pull for digging big rocks. You can also get it for the front of a tractor it attaches where a blade would go.

@507farmer76 жыл бұрын
When we take big rocks out like you mentioned, we throw the forks on our skid-steer and put the forks together. Its the just a process of digging around the rock and finding the edges/loosening dirt around it. Once we know how big it is we wither bring our back hoe out to try and pry one side out(rotate or get out entirely) or if we think our skid steer can handle getting it out we do that.

I am sure that you have a lot of answers about the rocks. I came from a potato farmers and loggers in Oregon. My dad used to describe blowing rocks and stumps. They would dig under the rock/stump, put an appropriate sized charge under, light it off and run. This service two purposes. 1. it pushed the rock up out of the ground and 2. broke the rock into manageable size pieces. They then would use a blade to back fill the hole and drive over it a few times with the track to tamp the hole back. Our family farmed near Madras, Oregon and Klamath Falls, Oregon. The timber and mill operation was near Grants Pass Oregon.

Regarding the large rocks, I am a Civil Enginner and have removed masses of large rocks. You have some options 1) Crack the rocks with explosives 2) rent an excavator 3) add a backhoe attachment to one of your existing tractors or 4)crack the rocks by starting a fire on top, burn for a while then sweep the fire off and dump cold water on the rock 5) get a deep running plow to excavate the rock.

As far as the corn being much dryer than beans. I had a conversation with a local agronomist last night about that too. He said part of that might be because the corn is so much taller this year and that apparently makes that corn dry quicker. Might be a bit more to it than that, but I was a few beers in at that point of the night.

Someone mentioned this for a tractors but you can find used backhoe attachments for the skid steers. Old backhoes are a dime a dozen though. As far as lifting them, they make forklifts attachments for 3 point. Something the size of a car would be 4 to 6 ton i would imagine. Nothing short of a large loader or large excavator with a thumb is going to man handle that.

We had a loader attachment for our asv skid steer that had a grapple on it also to grab the bigger rocks seemed to work ok for us on the bigger ones bout the ones the size of your fist had problems with and those were the ones that cause the most damage to rotors and concaves

In my opinion I think a backhoe isn’t a terrible idea. I work full time for a excavation company and help family members farm in the evening and on weekends and a backhoe becomes a lot handier than you think once you have one. We have a 99 John Deere 410e and it has good hydro power for digging lifting and bucketing and has good transmission push to it as well. But sometimes the boulders we dig up r sizes that ur talking about. So we dig clear around them and sometimes dig a makeshift ramp and run a chain around them and drag them out with a tractor. But that’s just how we do it. I hope this helps!
@justinmillhouse44266 жыл бұрын
Plus a backhoe u wouldn’t have to haul to the field u can just drive it.

ABOUT THE ROCKS: We use an implement called a bedformer which puts the soil into rows. Once we bedform our fields we then use our de-stoner which is a tool that is a trail behind that sorta looks like a carrot digger. It digs under the soil and puts all the rocks up the belt and takes the dirt with it. Once it reaches the top of the belt the dirt falls through the gaps and the rocks get emptied into a compartment at the back which can be emptied once you reach the end of your row. We also have a CAT loader that has a rock bucket that has gaps in it so it doesn't take the dirt with it. We use the loader quite a bit for large boulders/rocks

I've only moved rocks with a D6 dozer using a rear mounted ripper shank. I would think with a large enough ripper on the challenger you could at least get the rock out and on the surface to where you can manipulate the rock with another attachment/piece of equipment to fully remove it from the field. Did you ever try and dig them out with that tree machine you had before you sold it? I'm unfamiliar with those so I'm not sure what kind of hydro force they're capable of.
