I’m so glad the 1994 version is getting so much love lately. I saw it in the theater on opening night after buying the soundtrack and reading several articles about it before it was released. When the original came out, I had no intention of seeing it. It just didn't interest me. A close friend at the time saw it and loved it so much he asked me to go see it with him. I told him I didn't want to, so he said he'd pay for my ticket. I thought, 'Free movie? Why not?' Came out of the theaters thinking I had seen the greatest piece of modern cinema. 30 years later, it is still my favorite movie ever. I loved it so much I used to dress as Eric on Halloween as a teen. This past January, a friend and I celebrated our birthdays with a goth themed party, and I donned the costume again. @Letstunein it definitely had a lasting impression on me and was why its sequels could never recapture that magic; that and Brandon Lee's tragic fate. One friend who knew how much I loved the movie got me a copy of the final draft of the screenplay, and it was a bit different . Eric had a sort of spirit guide called Skull Cowboy, and scenes were filmed with him, but those scenes were cut. Skull Cowboy explained the rules of his resurrection in that he could kill those responsible but not interfere with the lives of the living. When Eric goes to rescue Sara from Top Dollar, Skull Cowboy appears warning Eric he had done what he needed to. If he continued, he could face the fate of walking the Earth for which was implied that was Skull Cowboys fate since he was once resurrected by the crow. Eric ignored him, so Skull Cowboy took away Eric's invulnerability. Very wild difference from the final cut. If you look it up, you can find images of him on set. Skull Cowboy was also in the graphic novel.

It's refreshing to see someone review a movie from the heart like this. I had been in the Army for 4 years when the original Crow came out. I saw it in the theater and I walked out thinking what a shame it was that we wouldn't get any more of Brandon Lee's acting in this genre. Like Heath Ledger's 'Joker' and Anton Yelchin's 'Odd Thomas', Brandon's 'Eric Draven' would truly be a one-off and that in itself was a tragedy. My wife had never seen the Crow and I introduced her to it about 6 months ago. She cried hard at the grave scene as well. Keep up the good work, your videos are made very well.

"I feel like Vengeance is the Lord's..." Eric is quite literally a revenant, a resurrected being brought back for the sheer purpose of balancing the scales so that his soul and Shelly's soul can rest easy. The Crow itself is the direct instrument of that resurrection, power, and guidance, but for whom do these Crows work? In the Bible, God sometimes worked through intermediaries like Angels and Archangels, who at times operated as his vengeful right hand. Who's to say that this isn't the case here? Anyway, thanks for the review and the comparison, and I'm glad you were so affected and moved by the 1994 original. It's a very good, very important film, and it's good that younger reactors are getting clued into it where they might have missed out before. If the remake has done anything of value, it's to once again put the original in people's minds.

It is Brandon Lee's exceptional acting performance that makes The Crow a classic. Lee had to showcase the ability to give both a physical performance as a reincarnated invincible man who is brutal and hell-bent on bloody, explosive revenge but also as an undead human being who is in limbo and is neither living nor dead and who is scared and confused about the reality he is in, inconsolable about losing his fiancée, and romantic and wistful about he gift of life that was taken from him so suddenly and permanently. The scene when he leaves the cops house and the cop says are you going to vanish into thin air ? and Lee says "I thought I'd use your front door" with so much sadness in his eyes about never, ever being able to enjoy simple things in life again like walking through a door, compared to the violent fight scene against Tin Tin where Lee kills Tin Tin with his own knives compared to the scene when Sara asks Lee, what are you some sort of clown ? and Lee says "sometimes" with a look of longing on his face, a deep desire to feel what it was like to be alive again expression on his face. It is just a beautiful vocal, corporal and facial performance that showed his wide range and a role that showcased his martial arts abilities too, being the son of literal meta-human Bruce Lee. Even under all that make-up he is able to convey such true and deep emotions. In an alternate universe, Brandon Lee is still alive at around 50 years old now, and he starred in The Matrix trilogy as Neo and as The Joker in The Dark Knight and also in that parallel universe Brandon Lee and Keanu Reeves both starred in the John Wick series together. R.I.P. Brandon Bruce Lee

@@P.90.603 Never have I heard of anyone speaking directly about Bruce Lee's charm...so I know you are a true fan. My favorite moment of Bruce Lee's charming side is in "Game of Death" when he reaches the second level of the pagoda with his teammate, they both have to fight the guy in the white uniform...there is a scene when Bruce is able to land a shot on the white uniform guy whereas his teammate was getting beat up, so Bruce turns around to look at his teammate and gives him a bombastic side eye and cheeky grin to show his teammate that he is the better fighter compared to his teammate getting thrown around. You can find scenes from "Game of Death" here on YT. As for Brandon, he is giving an interview in Australia in 1992 (a channel called whytedragonfilms here on YT has this video clip) and the interviewer is just going on and on about Bruce, and asking questions about Bruce when Brandon is trying to promote his own new film. Brandon is gracious and personable to the interviewer despite all this. Then at the end of the interview, Brandon says to the interviewer..."if you don't mind I'd just like to say hello to my girlfriend Liza who is watching back at the hotel"...at the end of The Crow, before the end credits roll, words appear on the screen that say "For Brandon and Eliza"...She is the same Eliza he is greeting

Great job! I loved the original so much as a teenager. And the soundtrack was sooooo great. Im glad you did a comparison on the two. Do drug addicts go and see movies? I guess if they showed the new Crow under an overpass in south Phoenix they might get some fans. If the homeless people around were conscious. Yeah... on paper I think The Crow is a solid movie but nothing special. Definitely, like, a narrative thread that is universal (revenge for the murder of his girlfriend), but it really probably should've just been a good, cathartic movie... but that's all. But some thing about it (some things, plural, I guess) made it transcend... -Brandon Lee is great. The role doesn't require, like, Oscar-worthy acting or movie star charisma, but you need a bit of both... -his relationship with the girl was great, that heart really makes it memorable beyond just a simple revenge flick -the soundtrack; not the type of music I typically go for, but something about those songs, the tone they set for this movie... just a perfect hand-in-glove fit. All-time iconic soundtrack -Maybe the element I most appreciate after having watched it several times, and a handful of reactions to it recently: the warmth Ernie Hudson brings to his role is just so fucking incredible. That triumvirate of Eric, the girl, and Ernie all are great, each connective tissue, but Ernie Hudson stands out as being particularly good, I think. What a fantastic performance by him.
