The Crow works because you have sympathy for Eric and Shelly. You want Eric to get revenge for Shelly. This sounds like you can't have sympathy for these two because they're scumbags.
@malachiXX2 ай бұрын
I haven't watched it but Mr. H seems to have hit the nail on the head this time. I remember the reboot of the Hellraiser Franchise and that was excellent. Those people were druggies and losers as well but it worked for the movie. You didn't expect the people involved with the Lament Configuration to be loveable or sympathetic and yet you could feel for them. They started low and there were no expectations and they surprised the audience. In the Crow, you are supposed to feel for their plight and understand the need for Eric's vendetta, but it's most important that you see the injustice in it all. That they were essentially good people caught in a bad situation, not of their own making. To start them off as lowlifes doesn't engender any sympathy when bad things happen and to introduce the supernatural right off the bat and not have it be Eric is an odd choice. That's what made the real Crow movie so amazing. He was the only supernatural aspect of the movie and the grounded in reality, ("this is the really real world man! There ain't no comin back!" ~ T-Bird), thugs had no way of dealing with him.

The only way I personally could ever see a modern Crow movie working is if they had placed the setting in Norse mythology and in the Viking era. New protagonist, you have the pre-established lore of the Norse thing which already features ravens as important characters, so you could have all the violence, you can do the love story still, but you would have the added bonus of the Norse mythology which would sort of fit together with the original story.

The Crow" leaves us with all of these questions and more, and sure, that could be chalked up to issues with the filmmaking. Yet it seems that Sanders intentionally wants to lean on the story's most primal and spiritual emotions, eschewing logic for mystery and letting the audience fill in blanks rather than spoon-feeding it to them. "The Crow," as a movie and a franchise, is cyclical, just like life and its endless struggles. Love, Anger, Despair, Justice, and so many other forces are not elements that can ever be fully resolved. What the Crow represents more than anything is their eternality.

I feel like this film is just almost there. Like there’s plenty of ideas that are so close to being dope. The pieces are there. There’s so much potential, but for one reason or another it just falls short. Like I didn’t hop on the hate train when it was announced and i was optimistic up until i watched it. Going in with not letting myself compare it to the original, i gave it a 6/10. There’s stuff i wish they did where all the stuff i was cool with was there then they just tweaked it wrong and i was upset. Like the idea of them being junkies and falling in love right away is completely fine with me, but like H said, you could make that work, but they don’t make them likable. I would change a handful of things and it would easily bumped up. Get rid of Eric/Shelly, make them change their ways after breaking out, give us more action throughout, give us more LOVE and less SEX. Having sex doesn’t show us how much 2 people love each other. Make them have more lovey stares from across the room or eating while joking, or whatever. Rewrite the bathtub scene and give us more like that. That’s my $0.02

So, ignoring the plot and character issues (& I watched this video so forgive me if this has been discussed here) for a moment - I get they’re not popular - in terms of the action sequences. Do they make this film worth a watch? I think it’s a huge shame this film is getting the bad PR it is, and I seem to recall this review saying Bill Skarsgard is alright in it, but I just watched Barbarian the other day (which he has a significant role in), and I absolutely loved it, so it’s a shame he’s in a dud here. When I first saw him in his Crow outfit I must say I was a little disappointed because Brandon Lee’s Crow looks like a superhero. The new one looks like they’ve pulled an extra out of Mad Max.

This movie was f*cking horrible. Top to bottom, start to finish, horse shit. Just watch the original, infinitely better in every possible way.
