I think they were trying to go for the modern version. The original is mostly timeless, but it appealed to young people at the time. Right now half the celebrities look like a Doodle Bear.
@aaron.ward.3 ай бұрын
What works about the original is that while it is sort of campy, it's also very earnest, and the love story has a very sentimental, fairy tale quality to it. It was also about a couple who were murdered on the eve of their wedding, and who you could imagine having a future together, as opposed to two people who meet in rehab and have only known each other for three days.
@jacobstaten23663 ай бұрын
I don't know if it counted as campy until marvel made everything sarcastic. Someone said they only recently saw the 'Lord of the Rings' movies and was confused because they kept waiting for the other shoe to drop with some kind of self-deprecating joke.
@aaron.ward.3 ай бұрын
@@jacobstaten2366 Yeah, maybe campy maybe isn't the right word. It really is just a type of earnestness that, like you say, movies don't really do anymore.

Simpler is better. Don't over complicate stuff with lore. Also, the original had a plethora of quotable lines. And Brandon Lee was pitch perfect. I was in my mid 20s when this came out and I loved it! Yes, Brandon's death added to the film's legend, but it was a well done genre film with kick ass visuals and an amazing soundtrack and score. Thirty years later, it still holds up.

I was devestaed when Brandon was killled and I loved the soundtrack (delicious). I have no need of this film. I tried the first sequel and never saw another one ... I think the first one was a moment in time - there were some great character actors (the bad guy with that gravel voice).. a very '90s moment. Doesnt need to be remade. Do not want it. I know the comic and I tell you the comic Eric does not look like a Bleached Jared Leto Joker. Also Pennywise (lol) is over exposed at this point - literally - is his goal is to play every 80'90' horror icon? He is an amazing actor but it's too much. Take a beat and do something else or take a vacation.

If you guys are interested, the writer of “The Crow” went through a terrible loss of the love of his life and that’s what inspired him to wrote it. He had a tragic life also. This adaptation follows the comic even LESS then the 90’s version, and that was loosely adapted but THIS is just an abomination. I WAS one of those “Goth kids” from the 90’s lol

10+ yrs. in production limbo + bad marketing + swiss cheese plot = The Pigeon 😂 It sounds like a wasted opportunity. James O'Barr (author of the original comics) wrote another Crow series about a Native American man + his family being killed by Confederate thugs and the crow brings him back to get revenge. There was another that involved a woman being brought back, like the source material/fresh ideas were right there. But nah, let's rehash a story that's been done + is a cult classic, but make it more complicated, gory, with a rehab trauma bond masquerading as an everlasting love. Ew.😅 Thank you for an entertaining review!!

In the comic and even the original movie, it's implied that the couple is together for a significant amount of time that they are both adults. It's very weird that they have this incredibly brief relationship in this version. One thing that none of the movies have covered is the amount of guilt and self-harm from the comic book series. But ultimately the bad guys are just sleazy creeps. They're nobodies. The whole idea is that this could have happened to anybody, not just someone who got to the bottom of something big.

I already planned to skip this one but always look forward to yalls take on what's displayed. The original was a big thing for a couple reasons. Yes the death of Mr Lee, for me and my friends (goths we be) found it fun that Detroit was the city it took place in (Devils Night term being used), the Music (thank you Trent Reznor) was a BIG draw all the Industrial artists we rocked/dance to in one record, also the casting it is filled with actors that take up parts in movies like Hackers and that vain, Bia Ling being all witchy can be entertaining and the simple story bad guys killed good guys and good guys get revenge. I'll just enjoy the original as I do with all these remakes.
