The girl that played Sarah refused to go back to the set after Brandon's death, it shook her so much. She only agreed for a couple of hours to do the good-bye scene in the apartment with the body double silhouette. SO MANY iconic scenes aren't even him because the whole story had to be rewritten with his death. The first view of the make-up in the window with the lightning is one of my favorite examples.

This was Brandon Lee's last movie, While filming the final scenes of "The Crow," Brandon was accidentally shot and killed when actor Michael Massee, who played drug dealer Funboy in the film, fired at Lee during a scene with a prop gun that was later found to have been improperly loaded. The gun had an already fired, blank bullet jammed in the gun's barrel, the bullet fragment was out of sight and came out with deadly force when it collided with the fresh blank used in the scene. The movie was finished by a body double mainly with shots taken from behind or in darkness to hide the Actor's face, Brandon Lee died in surgery and was the son of Martial Arts Legend Bruce Lee

The Crow is definitely one of my favorite movies of all time. It's not an easy movie to watch, because the subject matter is very dark, but it resonates with me on a deep level. If you were a movie fan in 1993, the tragedy around the Crow was "your worst nightmare." Micheal Massee's, aka Funboy, prop gun was improperly loaded and had a blank round inside that discharged and struck Brandon Lee, the son of famed martial artist Bruce Lee, and Eric Draven/The Crow in this film, in the abdomen. Despite six hours of emergency surgery, Brandon died. The production had to use body doubles and had to superimpose Brandon's face over another actor to finish the film.

Michael struggled to deal with his guilt over the accident for years and almost quit acting completely. If I remember correctly a bullet from an inert prop shell had come loose and obstructed the barrel then later when blank firing cartridges were loaded for an action scene and fired it was propelled out of the barrel and hit Brandon. While it's easy in hindsight to criticize the props department for not noticing the broken dummy round and not checking the barrel for obstructions before reloading with blanks so many minor mistakes and oversights had to happen just wrong to cause this tragedy that it fueled wild conspiracy theories for years.

I was a stagehand when this movie came out. It was a huge black eye on the industry. We failed, and it got Brandon Lee killed. In the scene where they are driving in the car, loading up their guns, we see a quick shot of one of the thugs loading a revolver (.44 magnum). When he is doing that on-screen, they use a dummy bullet. There's a casing, and a primer, and a bullet all squished together, but there's no gunpowder in the casing, for safety. This way, if something happens, there's no actual live ammo so nobody can get shot. However, those fake bullets are just a fraction of an inch longer than normal. Down at the "business" end of a chamber, there is a part called the "forcing cone" where the chamber tightens up ever so slightly. The dummy round got pushed up into the forcing cone, and got stuck. When the props master unloaded the dummy rounds from the gun, he didn't notice that one of the dummy rounds came out without its bullet. So, when it was loaded up with blanks to film the scene where everybody shoots while Draven is standing on the table, there was a bullet in that chamber in front of the blank. When the blank fired, it didn't have the *same* power as a .44 magnum, but it had enough. RIP Brandon Lee.

Good description of the circumstances, but wrong scene. It happened while filming the flashback scenes of Eric and Shelley's deaths. i watched this movie so many times as a teenager. to put it simply i watched it so many times i could quote it from beginning to end. their love story got me, the revenge got me, the soundtrack got me, the cinematography it has so many killer shots. it had incredible dialogue, "victims aren't we all", "it can't rain all the time", "mother is the name for god on the lips and hearts of all children", just on and on. also every bad guy except skank died to their own favorite passions.

After the incredibly sad passing of such an amazing actor with such an amazing potential future this movie carried much more weight. His passing during the filming hit so many people so hard. I was a huge fan of his father, Bruce Lee, and regardless of the quality of his 1st couple of films loved Brandon too. They went on to make a couple more Crow films and they really shouldn't have because they were terrible. Rest in Peace Brandon, you have been missed dearly.

I'm not sure it's been mentioned in the comments but, the Eliza mentioned in the dedication at the end of the movie was Brandon Lee's fiance at the time of his death while filming the movie. Their wedding would have been on April 17, 1993, a week after Brandon would have wrapped up filming. She, along with Brandon's mother Linda, insisted that the film be completed as a tribute to Brandon after his death. Trivia: When Eric is going through old photos in the movie, one shows him hugging a woman in a white dress with her back to the camera. In the movie, the woman is meant to be Shelly. In real life, this was a photo Brandon himself took (if you pause the movie you can see he's holding a camera) just moments after he proposed to Eliza who is the woman he's hugging in the photo. Eliza shared the photo on her private Instagram in 2021 when calling for stronger rules on the use of real firearms in films after the shooting incident on the set of the movie Rust.

This movie had a huge influence on my goth phase, lemme tell you. That and Interview with a Vampire. There’s just something about 90’s goth aesthetic that gets me. There’s nothing else like it. A lot of anime at the time kinda had the same dark vibes. Love this movie even though it isn’t in my movie collection, it definitely had an impact on me. Glad you got to see it!

It was the same for me. But let me ask you something, for the goth scene in my town in VA, everyone loved The Crow and Interview with The Vampire but HATED Coppola's Dracula. Just hated it. I went to see it on opening day and there were wall to wall goths. When the movie ended with Lennox starting to sing there was a collective groan from the audience. Everyone shuffled out without saying a thing. No one talked about it afterward. However, when Interview with The Vampire came out, which I saw on opening day, there was literal cheer across the once again goth filled audience. Especially for the final scene when Lestat came back. Afterward, that was all everyone talked for weeks. That movie. So, I ask you, how did you and your part of the goth scene think of Coppola's Dracula? Did you guys love it or hate? Was it just my neck of the woods that hated it?

Nice spotting on Ernie Hudson. He is also very good in Congo, which hope is on your list of movies to watch! The books it is based on was written by the same author who wrote Jurassic Park (Michael Crichton). It's not the best adaptation, but Tim Curry is a funny presence and Ernie Hudson is great. @baskervillebee6097 The 13th Warrior is certainly an overlooked Crichton film. Fantastic acting, amazing sets and scenery. Antonio Banderas did a really great job in the role, though I'm still not sure why they didn't cast a Muslim actor for the part since that's where the character originates, although I can't imagine anyone else playing that part. Guess that's something of a conundrum.

This is very much a gothic romance/superhero/tale of vengeance. It also has the greatest soundtrack of all time and space. Now this film does resonate with me on an extremely personal level. Nit just because of the soundtrack and respect that I hold for Brandon and Bruce. I was 19 when this film came out. I was just getting started playing guitar in local area bar bands (I had to get a worker's permit to go be able to play our gigs). Also the previous July I lost the person I wanted to build my life with in an untimely horseback riding accident. So the character of Eric Draven felt as though it was written specifically for me. I even joked to my friend with whom I went to see it in theaters when he was running across the rooftops that I hated when camera crews follow me around. So as sad as I am that you didn't enjoy it as much as I did; I can't be mad because I don't think there are many who have my perspective on this film. I'm glad you tackled two of my favorite October films this month.

Actually, the Eliza in the credits with Brandon was an entirely different Eliza. She was an actress, Brandon's fiancee, they were planning their upcoming wedding at the time of his death. The wedding was only 2 weeks away when he died. I remember watching the news break on MTV when it happened. My friends and I all froze in place and didn't say a word until the story was well over. It was hard to take in at first then it hit like a wall falling on us. We were all following the careers of Brandon, Jeff Speakman, Dolph, Steven Segall, Chuck Norris, The Wincotts (Michael who played Top Dollar here and Jeff), Powers Boothe, MarK DaCascos, Michael Dudikoff and Van Damme amongst others. We never missed a movie by any of them so losing one of them felt like losing a friend in a sense. Brandon's movies with Dolph and Powers were really fun action films and they showed definite talent on so many levels. Realizing how young we lost him still eats at me to this day.
