Unsurprisingly the remake of the Crow was not great but it was at least fun bad. Let's talk messy mind control, doomed lovers, lines written by a 13 year old, and possible time travel.

Rehab romances, aren’t built to last. It’s crazy that they would push this ‘Pure Love’ in rehab, nonsense. You’re working on yourself. There is no room for love interests during those tough times.

Maybe instead of a rehab member, the love interest should have been a girl he met after rehab. Maybe she helped him feel normal and stay off the drugs after he left. Idk. Makes more sense and is more romantic than this. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't love that they took two characters who didn't use drugs, and who took care of the child of a drug addict, and had them using drugs in a sexy way. They could have adapted any of the many, many variations of The Crow without using Eric and Shelly specifically.
@FigmentForever
@FigmentForever 21 күн бұрын
Yea it’s just gross tbh. It just isn’t Eric Draven “The Crow” in any shape or form. The first 3 movies (forget Wicked Prayer) are all 10x better than anything this movie had to offer. I watched a CAM copy of this bc I refuse to give the studio any money for this movie.
@cospinanyc
@cospinanyc 21 күн бұрын
@FigmentForever 3, while not great was a fun movie that was definitely better than 2 and 4 easily and deserves a lot more love than it got as visually with the Alex Corvus character they dumped trying to make him look like Eric(which I hated about part 2) and gave him his own unique look and style, which makes sense as he's a completely different person than Eric. Also having corrupt cops be the cause of his and his gfs deaths was a nice twist to the narrative as it seems every crow film after part 1 has been just evil gang members because reasons.
@BlackParade727
@BlackParade727 21 күн бұрын
@cospinanyc I haven't watched them all in a good minute, but I can't believe anyone likes the 3rd one. The first is the best obvi, but I also liked the second. The third was just stupid and ridiculous (he was killed like a day or two ago and doesn't look different but no one recognizes him??). I really don't remember what the 4th is about at all, except I was glad it wasn't the 3rd.
@theninjamaster67
@theninjamaster67 19 күн бұрын
@@cospinanyc City of Angels is apparently much better if you track down a fan edit recreating the directors cut cause of course studio meddling ruined the film also the comic book version is pretty solid too from what I've heard haven't gotten around to reading or watching either myself but they're on my list as I've heard good things so maybe look into that if you like The Crow films.
@theninjamaster67
@theninjamaster67 19 күн бұрын
@CarlyHawthorne-w4t Personally I think the first one gets more credit because of the tragedy attached to it as well as the fact the original comic was actually a pretty big deal before the movie so those two things would've put a lot of eyes on the film which gained it a lot of notoriety.

yeah this makes me sad cuz the original writer of the comics, James O’Barr, wrote these to cope with the death of his fiance at the hands of a drunk driver. I haven’t read the comics, but from what i have read about them, it is about loss and grief. So i feel like having a “just kidding she’s alive because love!!” at the end totally defeats the purpose of the story

I’m not going to give this movie my money, and my only question is, is it worse than The Crow Wicked Prayer?! 17:46 Yes, it is! why is he getting exposition from a human character? The whole point is the Crow brings back the spirit so they can exact vengeance!

I was encouraged when I saw that they went a different direction, because there is no living up to the '94 film. It captured a moment in cultural time in a way that can't be replicated. But the choices they made are really weird to me. Eric and Shelly being grimdark emo kids doesn't track for me. I feel like the essence of the story requires that they are pretty normal people, who experience this terrible and unnecessary tragedy. They don't need to be all dark and gothic _before_ they are killed. They honestly seem like people who would have ended up doing some kind of joint suicide. I also don't get them having basically just met. I don't see how that adds anything to the story. It makes his connection to her more of a hormone fueled obsession rather than love. I really don't like the "if your love is pure" thing either. Especially because him "doubting his love" is just a completely healthy reaction to finding out someone you know killed someone. The idea that "pure" love means you don't hold the person you love accountable for anything is super toxic. It sounds like most of the first half of the movie could have been communicated with a few should flashbacks, with the movie starting with his resurrection. Like they could have cut 45 minutes off easy.

"I have had too much therapy" - I think this is why I'm not drawn to it this time around. Plus I liked the original and the original soundtrack. I have a feeling like you said that it's for those who think this shite is 'fine' and those like you and me who can't stand the glorification (and romanticisation) of toxic relationships will be... yeh nah.

The effects that happened while Shelly was dead stuck. Thats why the "cry later" tattoo was finished on erics dead body even though he only finished it in crow state. So everyone that died did die even if it rewound time to before they died. Like all the security guards spontaneously being sliced up by thin air

Spoiler Alert: Hearing this ending SUCKS considering the original had all the bad people die, Eric finally at peace and reuniting with Shelby finally in the afterlife together. This “questioning of love” when your girlfriend might have murdered someone for SOME REASON is totally asinine. If my boyfriend was on video killing someone and there was no context, I’D BE CONCERNED TOO.

I wanted to be excited about this as an OG Crow fan, who was interested in seeing something new being done that was supposed to be closer to the original comics (and not a bastardization of Brandon Lee's legacy, because he had such an incredible hand in how the OG Crow shaped up) ... But lord this just sounds like a poorly written, unthought-out tragedy :(

You what it is that broke my immersion? That a modern day movie would have a female lead of Shelley’s age and think, “Ah yes, someone in this age bracket is 100% gonna be named *Shelley* aka a name that was already dated by the time she was born!” THAT is what immediately broke my immersion in the film.

I don't think I'll ever see the movie. But if I had, that ending would have infuriated me. The whole conceit of The Crow series of films was the catharsis of avenging those who wronged the protagonists. There was no revival of the dead loved one. Like ever. I'd be really curious to know if James O'Barr signed off on that.
