the "ballkids" at the US Open are always adults because of the timing of the tournament being end of August , the kids JUST started back at school, so they can't miss those vital first weeks to volunteer to do it so full grown adults get to!

many tennis fans were clowning on the "healthiest sport" tagline bc of how often players have been sick or injured this year 😭😭 especially the sinner-draper sf that had just happened where they were both on the verge of death

Once you avoid the Grand Slams, you can actually watch Tennis at a reasonable price and the quality is still great. I went to the Madrid Open and it was very resonable for a full day of the quarter finals. Nadal was playing another Spaniard and the atmosphere was phenomenal and then I saw Serena playing her match. You should consider going to see New Zealand vs Ireland in Chicago. Rugby is very entertaining but it would be worth it alone to see the Haka live.

omg this is the video i never knew i needed from you. The umpires being passive aggressive and the "hoitey toitety" crowd with areas that are unaccessable unless you pay with your kidneys is so true. Also, the US Open does pay their ball kids! Smaller tournaments don't pay them, though. Source: I've competed since childhood and was a ball kid in small tournaments.
@pshtwhoneedsaname5 сағат бұрын
late tournament slam tickets are always exorbitant but there's so much value in getting fan week/early round/practice session tickets or tickets to smaller tournaments (masters). oh also, if anyone wants to see more behind the scenes from tournaments What The Vlog is a channel run by a womens tennis player (daria kasatkina) and her gf where they often vlog tournaments!

As a huge tennis nerd (both as a viewer and a player) it’s really interesting hearing the perspective of someone who’s starting to get into it. Turns out we were both at the Tiafoe/Fritz semifinal too. Glad you had a pretty good time!

I wish you had gotten into Tennis earlier. It's kind of in an end of an era right now. Some of the best players of all time were all playing at the same time. Federer, Nadal, Serena, etc. Most of them have retired in the last couple of years. This would be the equivalent of half the grid in F1 being the greatest drivers of all time, all in the same races for 10-15 years. It was thrilling to say the least.

the US open crowds were awful this year - because all the real fans got priced out and a lot of people who could afford to go just went for the prestige of the event. really sad to see tennis ticket prices as a whole rise when it’s always been relatively affordable to watch. i love this sport, i grew up in an academy (my family was not rich, i had equipment sponsors) and was a high level junior, competing on the international level, and it sucks so fucking bad to see how the general public romanticizing it has just made it feel more inaccessible. also on the live streaming in the bar thing - courtside seats are honestly kind of awful, it’s not a good viewing angle if you really want to understand what’s happening in the match
@mar47074 сағат бұрын
The sign language interpreter being beside the performers is also just way better for people who need them. Like if you need to watch the interpreter and they're off to the side you miss the 'actual' performance

Personally, I think early tournament tickets at any tennis event is the way to go. They are more affordable and there is usually a lot more going on the ground. For the around the price of the semi finals ticket you can see at least 8 matches at a masters 1000 with semi decent seats :)

Tennis is NOT the healthiest sport. That's total BS. I'm a weekends player, just for fun, and I've seen a LOT of injuries. Two years ago my dad had a fall that left him bedridden and taking tramadol for two months, and wearing a custom made corset for another four. He was very lucky he didn't develop an addiction. You mentioned the public being "rowdy", but that's the charm of the US Open. Other places are more quiet and subdued. I'd like to attend the nearest ATP 250, but even those can be really expensive if a famous player decides to participate.
