The biggest tragedy here is that both Diana and Charles were both unloved by their families. They were broken people trying to find love. Charles as horrible as he must seem was in love with Camilla. Diana, in the words of Princess Anne fell in love with a Prince who was already in love with someone else. The fact remains that if these two people really did try and it still didn’t work, they needed to separate. Whether Diana used her fame to get back at the royal family is up for conspiracy theorists but I truly think she loved Charles and did everything she could to hold on to him. Charles was just so far gone. A tragedy on both sides.

That's a bit glib. They were both loved. It's just not the way we expect it in a standard middle class family 2021. Although like every family they had their issues; especially Diana's. Charles' mother had great expectations for him and took the tough love approach for him to be prepared- according to the series. Who knows what really happened behind closed doors but Anne said her parents were very loving- but just absent a lot due to work. I don't think Diana really loved Charles. I think she loved the idea of Charles, him being the Prince of Wales and all. But not him as a person. She gladly went and slept around too. Charles needed a suitable wife. Not love- he already had a mistress who was his soulmate. But being in an age where women now have a voice and rights, arranged marriages don't work like they used to. In reality Charles needed an older more intellectual woman and Diana someone younger and handsome but the type who liked to "rescue" girls- kinda like her youngest son is.

I think Charles did love Diana, I truly do. I think he was in love with her for a brief moment, but didn’t know how to love her because he was raised as a product of the system. I think the crown did good in showing how broken Charles was after Mountbatten’s death which led him to pursue Diana. I think she was like a breath of fresh air for him after his death, but sadly he was too afraid to love her due to like I said earlier, being raised to not show emotion. She was someone who was influenced by her emotions & that scared the family. If only he committed to trying to make it work with her instead of running to Camilla, today’s outcome would be totally different. But sadly that’s not reality. But I’m grateful Diana had William and Harry. They really are representations of her & carry on her legacy.
