Well keeping in mind that this is a historical fiction series, I can see in a way the portrayal of their characters. Charles is very academic and seems to appreciate things from the perspective of history, culture, or other high minded pursuits. Diana is more emotionally driven and appreciates things out of a sense of sentimentality from personal experiences.

Diana must have seemed very sweet, especially right after he lost Uncle Dickie, but it wasn’t a good start.

She wasn't cultured or well read but she knew stuff about politics and what was going on in the world and could hold a conversation. Meanwhile Charles is sophisticated and proficient in many subjects and they had completely different interests that might have contributed to the rift.

Yeah, you really don’t know about the real life Diana. She was from one of the oldest families in England, older than the Windsors themselves. Her family has a massive jewelry collection, she would certainly have a knowledge of jewels and their price points. But the clip obviously shows she chose the ring out of sentimentality, something you clearly missed.

I never once saw what critics found so unbelievably appealing and incredible about Emma Corrin's performance as Diana. I thought Corrin was either phoning it in or overacting throughout most of season 4. Corrin was initially hired as a stand-in and I think it should've stayed that way. The performance Corrin gave got better by the end of the season, but the way that critics gushed about how it was the most unbelievable bit of acting they had ever seen was completely ridiculous. I think Jessica Alexander who played Vanessa, Ursula's alter-ego, in the live-action 'The Little Mermaid' would've been a much better young Diana.
