@@leonardwimbelton8920 I get that we won't have Dark Souls 4 since the story ended with Gael and Dark Soul at the literal end of the world but I've been thinking about a Dark Souls prequel quite a lot. In DS2 when we are in the memories we can see actual humans instead of just the usual hollowed soldiers. That made me think how awesome it could be if FROM or even their B-team made a game where we could be in times before the first game, between 1-2 and 2-3 where they could expand a hell of a lot on many things that were only mentioned a few times. I would pay to see the empires/realms we know in their glory days. Especially with a next gen engine.

@3ternalHours2 жыл бұрын
I don't think that's a controversial opinion. The first game benefitted from a metroidvania layout whilst the other games were free to have harder borders between areas because they gave you warping from the start, and suffered for it. In Dark Souls II's case, a lot of its maps straight up don't integrate and hardly overlap in any meaningful ways. Dark Souls I is the more memorable experience because you spent more time actually engaging with the areas you were asked to move through; you had to, because you couldn't just warp back out. It was important to know where all the shortcuts were. And their placements were necessarily rewarding. The same is just not true for the other two, by design.

Fun fact: That line from Ludleth is pretty different in the English compared to the Japanese original, so much so that it might be thought to affect the lore. In Japanese he apparently says この小人が、王の栄誉に浴したのさ, which (apparently, I don't speak the language) translates to something more like "Even this Pygmy here was honored to become a lord." Pygmy? A very loaded word choice in Souls lore

@@chompythebeast To say it uses the word 'Pygmy' would be inaccurate. It uses the word 小人, which just means 'small person' or 'dwarf'. I played the first Dark Souls in 2012 because my friends had really recommended it, and I honestly hated it at first. I was really bad at this genre of game and couldn't make any progress and I started to loathe even the visual design of Firelink and Undead Burg just from the association of being unable to make progress. Left it at that until feeling deeply compelled to try the game again 8 years later, and now I've played through all 3 DS games and a bit of demons souls and Sekiro from becoming so obsessed with the games. In a weird way it felt like I needed that experience to truly appreciate the series, because I'd never dropped a game like that out of frustration. Coming back years later, it was cool to see all these themes of futility and fighting in a hostile yet still beautiful world like Lordran and how it connected to my original playing experience and struggles with depression. I was literally the Crestfallen warrior, dejected and convinced the experience just wasn't meant for me. There's something meditative about the series to me now - learning to let go, being forced to accept all those times you lost a stockpile of souls is a part of the experience and literally the only solution is to learn from mistakes and grow as a player. The elements of frustration I felt as a high schooler are still in the game, but it only makes the victories more rewarding and the calmer moments hold even more weight.

And after playing for only three months and moving on to DS2 until now, this video still makes me feel like I've come back to visit an old friend. Dark Souls really is something special.

Masterfully done. This is a perfect glimpse in to the world of Dark Souls. I’ve beat the game countless times, yet I still watched the entire video in awe, as if I’ve never seen it before. Excellent work 🙏🏼

It's so crazy to think this game has been out for a decade already. Ever since my first play-through I've been so entranced by the lore and world of dark souls that it's been a part of my life ever since. Thank you Miyazaki and RIP Kentaro Miura 💜
@Destroyer21502 жыл бұрын
It's one of those games that had a huge impact on people and even game devs. Back in the day, there weren't many good action RPGs or even RPGs. And if there was, mostly were very much casual and would basically make the player the "Special one" right at the begining. Miyazaki and Kentaro Miura wanted the player to go on an adventure with a Hero's Journey structure (with some changes ofc), where struggle is constant, but at the same time, show the player that it is possible to overcome obstacles, either through the help of NPCs, summons and even other players.

This video sincerely evoked the same joy, wonder, solitude, melancholy, and awe I felt as I explored this game for the first time. I cherish the experience I've had with the game very much. Thank you for making this.

Feels like just last year I was bumbling my way through Sen's Fortress for the first time, afraid the silver knight statues were going to wake up and come after me. That, and the first glimpse of ash lake will stay with me for a long time. Crazy it's been ten years already.

I hope Elden Ring serves to create many powerful memories, just as Dark Souls has. Anyone want to share their memories? I'll share: I'll never forget when I got cursed for the first time, spawned all the way back in firelink shrine and had to rush back to all the souls I lost. It took all my estus, my pyromancy and my sanity to retrieve them. Then after the accursed depths, I suffered through the horrors of blighttown, discovered the gorgeous view of ash lake, went back and fought Quelagg for the first time; I was exhausted, lost, and so far away from home. The pure euphoria I felt when I returned to the surface and ended back up in firelink... ugh, it's like getting a long needed embrace from your parents after being away for so long. Most of all... I'll never forget when I journeyed into the Tomb of The Giants early on: getting wrecked by bone monstrosities and creepy pyromancers for hours. Once I got to the very bottom, just to be met with that golden fog wall, I realized the horror: I had to fight my way out of here.

My favourite memory of ds1 is going through darkroot garden with my friend for the first time just after the games release and getting constantly invaded, it was really funny. I've long since beat all the games now but i still do occasional series runthroughs with him.

I quit playing three times at blighttown, I just couldn't get through it, the poison darts were making me rage so hard. I played ds3 first and I was used to sprinting through areas if I got sick of them, you can imagine how that worked out... lol. But then I reached Anor Londo and I realized the fucking masterpiece this game is, it makes you suffer but it rewards you with the most beautiful level of all time at the end.

Oh hell yea let me tell you about my first time being cursed *cracks knuckles* this is the story of how I got gud. So I'd made it down to Ash Lake in my first ever playthrough. No Lordvessel, no purging stones (I don't think I actually knew what those were yet) and generally getting real frustrated and depressed with the game at this point. I'd killed the Hydra and lit the bonfires down there, but the black Basilisk got me during exploration. Not knowing about the purge stones or that man-eater shells dropped them, I just returned to get my souls, died. Went back up the tree, got cursed again. I've lost all my humanity and nearly a level. So now I've gone IRL hollow. I hate this game. I should go to bed. I've given up. I didn't even fight back and just allowed myself to keep getting cursed without really trying not to. So when I soberly picked up my game again the next day, determined to undo my terrible mistakes, my max health could only take one or two hits and I had to fight my way from Ash Lake to Firelink (which had no bonfire anymore) and then into New Londo (which I avoided like hell all game) because that's the only way I knew to break the curse 😂 With only a Claymore to protect me. It. Was. Awful. But eventually I stopped dying or even getting hit by the end and now I can overcome anything FromSoft throws at me. GG Dark Souls.

I remember the joy it brought me last year when I first played the game, now that I have bested all 3 Dark Souls games, I feel kind of empty, as if the task of beating the games left a hole in me, and I know going into the next Soulsborne will only make this hole larger, but that's the magic of Dark Souls, it makes you go to great lengths, only to go hollow in the end of it all, I don't think there will ever be a game as challenging and fulfilling as Dark Souls on my first experience, beating the Soul of Cinder, then Gwyn and lastly, Nashandra were events that made me so happy, the feeling of having completed a long and arduous quest and merely appreciating the entire journey, feels good, next stop os Sekiro, then either Demon's Souls or BloodBorne

@@3ternalHours Let me tell you a story young one. Once upon a time in Dark Souls, there was a ring called the dark wood grain ring that changed the roll animations for you character, it made them faster, had more i-frames and was all around detrimental to not have it on because you needed to be at or less than 50% total equipment load, and due to how Dark Souls 1 worked it was very easy to do that with almost full Havel's armor set and your choice of a light head piece and one of the most popular one was the mask of the mother because it gave extra HP, along with being able to use pretty much any weapon you wanted along as it wasn't insanely heavy, shit was wild back in the day but it got a very deserved nerf and other shit got buffed so in the end that meta died out, it was still alive in like 150+ soul level pvp but I never found high levels to be fun to Invade or get invaded so I pretty much never encountered the havel mom meme, even on the re-release they were pretty rare for the short time I played that.
