As someone who specializes in Wisconsin Lore, I LOVE that the hodag has earned S-Tier. But I would like to expand on the part about how it rises from the ashes of an ox. It isn't just an ox that has been mistreated by its ox driver, in the original story it is SPECIFICALLY an ox that has suffered extensive verbal abuse and swear words at the hands of many different ox drivers who all spoke different languages. At the time in Wisconsin, there was a lot of immigrants in the lumber trade, ox drivers were notoriously surly, and oxen would often trade hands between drivers several times during their lives. It is only when an ox accumulates enough verbal abuse and swear words hurled at it in different languages that the ox is at risk of becoming a hodag. Furthermore, it doesn't necessarily rise from the ashes of an ox, but ANY verbally abused ox will rise UNLESS it is cremated for at least seven years (to burn away the bad vibes I guess). It can rise from an uncremated corpse as well, but it rises from the ashes whenever the cremator fails to burn the ox for long enough (which is, again, seven years of cremation).

Okay this is a serious long shot but I need your help. I had a college roommate who I became good friends with, and one of the things we originally found we had in common was that we both watched wendigoon back when he had like 50-100k, mid to late 2021. His name was Jaime (pronounced Hi-may), and he was one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. I lost contact with him like early 2023, I think he got a new number or something, and I’ve tried everything I can think of to find him, but he didn’t have any social media or anything like that and nothing through our college. This is the last place I can think of to try to find him. Just hoping maybe he or someone he knows might see this.

@@Noperare Hek, "the internet" even came up with a new name for their version of the skinwalker, the one that mixes the abilities of wendigos and skinwalkers: it's called a "fleshgait". And before anyone tries to say it's "gate", gait is the word for how you walk and "fleshgait" is a cheeky reference to skinwalker.

"The thought of a giant sturgeon is scary" try living in SE Texas with water full of monsters. The concept of being in water is terrifying but what scares me the most is Alligator Gar, after one snuck up on me while I was swimming in a river. I never even saw it till it was about 5 feet away in waist deep water, completely still and broadsiding me to probably make himself known or size me up, if the water was any murkier I never would have saw him creep up on me. I'm sure it wasn't gonna do anything hostile but I was only 10 at the time and having flashbacks to Finding Nemo's Barracuda so I just shuffled away as calmly I could and I've had an irrational fear of them ever since. And don't get me started on Catfish, one Bayou I used to visit had Catfish skulls the size of a man's torso tied to trees as trophies.

Fun fact. In the Congo there was a giant snake spotted by Col. Remy van Lierde and passengers of the helicopter he was flying in 1959. The black and white picture wendigoon put up in the megaconda section of the video was the picture they took from the helicopter. According to him and the other passengers the snake rose it's head about 10 feet and tried to strike at the helicopter. It's considered by scientists to be the most credible sighting of a giant monster snake as the picture is not doctored, the testimonies have never changed and line up with what snake experts are familiar with, the colonel is considered a very truthful man by his peers and doesn't seem like the kind of person to lie for fame and locals ofcourse tell tale of a similar serpent. This is the kind of cryptid story that really gets me excited.

I'm certain that I have seen a 'Giant Rabbit' of sorts. It happened in South England when I was 10 or 11, so around 2007/2008. Riding my bike home up a dirt track, coming from fields and various farm buildings and paths, when I rode past an entrance to one of the fields and looked at what appeared to be a giant rabbit or maybe a hare. It was maybe around a metre tall in its typical crouched position, some of this height coming from its very large ears. I remember stopping and just staring at it, and it being stood there not really looking at me, but near me. After a few moments it went back from the direction it came (I would have seen if it came from any other direction) and thaf was all I saw. Strange and rather uninteresting story but just had to share because of it's appearance in the list. I can show on a map the exact place it stopped.

19:47 I can give an anecdote to the Wawasee Sturgeon! Grew up there. That lake was very deep and had lots of channels that were super calm and sometimes abandoned. The fish were typically small and really fast but you would see the occasional fish that was HUUGE. Especially at night you could see some massive fish sizes I’ve never seen in fresh water to this date besides a few carp. Close to the sea wall near my place you would always see a lone Sturgeon. It was maybe 3 feet long but these old people said it was young and an offspring of a giant one (they had seen years ago) and assumed it was dead. It was completely fearless, I would be in the water and realize it was right by my ankles. You could jump back, scream, or flinch, and it wouldn’t move. Really freaky.

I often wonder if some not-deer encounters are of deer with CWD. I’ve seen a few infected ones from different subtypes and they all act so “off.” Just the way they move their bodies is horrifying-they’ll lurch and sway their heads in weird, unnatural directions. I’ve seen them rear for no apparent reason and take a wobbly step while still twisting their heads around. And their eyes are horrific. Idk how to describe it but they look so far removed from normal deer eyes. They’ll stand there and stare at you with those awful “off” eyes until you’re the one who feels the need to get away. Anyways, CWD is terrifying and I feel for any poor deer that have been afflicted :(

I don't know if you have them later in the list but, here are some others from Colombia in South America that you might find interesting to research: - El Silbón: (The whistler) A spirit of a man who killed his parents, when you hear him whistling from afar it means he's really close. -La Candileja: (The oil lamp) The spirit of an old lady in the form of a raging ball of fire with tentacles, with 3 flames symbolizing her and her 2 grandchildren. -El Mohán: A goblin-like creature that tricks and kidnaps young people who wander near the rivers or ponds at night. -El Sombrerón: (The big-hat man) A horse-riding old man who appears wearing a big hat and often seen with 2 hell hounds, he often pursues drunk men and wife-beaters.

The Mokele Mbembe is much more interesting that what you think though. It isn't just one of those cryptids that are just a living dinosaur in Africa (trust me, there are a lot of them), but it's rather a very interesting idea that stems from different places. The true story came from reports of local tribes that talked about a big herbivore that had a long neck and was pretty aggressive and territorial with anyone that came close to it. Of course, this could easily just be a giraffe o an elephant whose trunk was misinterpreted as a neck, but when the europeans came along with the idea that it could be a dinosaur due to the racist thought of Africa being a "prehistoric and outdated place", the locals probably took advantage of the situation and made this cryptid what it is now. How, you may be asking? Well, let's just say that they needed guides to traverse the areas they wanted to research, and the European were willing to pay large amounts of money, so in order to peak their interest they purposely exaggerated various features of the beast, such as some stories given by the locals giving the Mokele Mbembe fangs, a turtle like shell, and other ridiculous features. And of course, when the Europeans showed them pictures of local fauna in order to identify the beast, they would always shake their head in disagreement, but when they showed them a picture of a dinosaur they would instantly say that it what they saw. Hopefully this explanation will make you appreciate it a little more!
@hab0272
@hab0272 3 ай бұрын
That seems a very probable theory. I also think it was a regular animal that gained exaggerated features over time. Though i still hope it's an unknown species. Perhaps a long-necked semi-aquatic mammal. The jungle might have some mysteries left.

You can't rule out the possibility that because shadow people always come up when you google dph experiences, it puts it into people's heads subconsciously. But then again, both dph and sleep deprivation are linked to seeing shadow people in general though, not just the hat man. Tweakers who binge on meth and stay awake for days also often see shadow people and the hat man as well.

As someone from the Great Lakes region who grew up hearing the stories and has had an encounter with one personally, Skinwalkers are definitely real and you should not ever fuck around with them. The reason that they're called "Skinwalkers" is because they don't just mimic the sounds and voices of others, but they literally wear the skin of their last victim as camouflage and take its form. That's why you will also hear them called "Not Deer," because you will usually see them in the forest wearing the skin of a deer, but when you watch them for a minute you will get this deep feeling down in your gut that they are Not A Deer. The encounter I had was with a Not Deer, and I was very lucky that I was near my home because Skinwalkers don't like to be seen and prefer to ambush their prey as opposed to chasing it down. So long as you don't stare and don't show fear, they don't tend to chase you, but that's NOT a guarantee. The best way to stay safe from them out in the woods is to act like the smartest person in a horror movie: Don't investigate strange noises, don't approach voices whose source you cant identify and/or do not directly respond to your questions, always stay in areas that are well lit and clearly marked, and always run from potential danger before you determine if it's ACTUAL danger because by then it's too late.

I'm half Brazilian and most of my family there are from the Amazon. my great-grandpa (who literally grew up in the rainforest) always used to scare us with the Anaconda stories he experienced as a child. The Megaconda (or an anaconda almost as long & wide as you say) is actually a "real" thing. I think this one guy even went on the joe rogan podcast to tell his story of going into their habitat and seeing one, only to have the indigenous laugh in his face after the event, saying "that was still a rather small one". I think the Megaconda as you describe it 100% used to exist, but there still are HUGEHUGEHUGE Anacondas in the Amazon (about 1.5-2m diameter). they just dont come out in the daylight and dont move their location a lot as they've become such predators and don't have to actively go on hunts anymore. apparently, they just wait on the surface of shallow waters for prey (kinda like gators). Not saying the cryptid is real but tbh from what I know i dont think it's a myth either, somebody correct me if I'm wrong tho :)

And seeing that you bumped up your list to 500+ crypids really seals the deal on my thoughts. A smart person wouldn't commit to that level of review, but you're better than that. My great uncle was the sherif of Hopkinsville during the 1955 little green man incident. Before KZbin this story was told to me by my mother and other family members. The account that is never talked about is what I think is coolest. My aunt, Sherif Greenwells daughter, was upstairs playing with her cousins when someone ran in to the house to tell her father about the incident. There was no jest in the incident and it’s pretty well known that he was startled by his experience from reporting on scene for some time. Crazy to see a family story also be one of the most well known cryptid encounters of all time Our family members were asked to be filmed in a remake of the incident some years later.

I'd like to leave in the comments a few folkloric creatures from Brazil that I never even though to classify as a cryptids until I started watching this series. I'm doing so because the term "cryptid" isn't a big thing here so, even though (of course) I've heard of big foot, the yeti, etc, etc, I've always considered them folklore or (urban) legends, so, since this classification as "cryptid" isn't a thing, I fear people outside of Brazil will likely never hear of these creatures, meaning they probably will never come up in researchers relating to cryptids. I thought this would be a fun way of introducing people to them, so anyone reading this can look into them further if they're interested. 1. Curupira: described as a boy-like humanoid with bright orange or red hair - though it can also light on fire - and inverted feet (facing the opposite direction to where he walks), it's a spirit of the forest that protects nature against defloresters and other "aggressors of nature" (like big foot I guess). It's feet are inverted in other to confuse such deflorestors and hunters, and it also uses whistles to achieve the same effect. 2. The Headless Mule (or "Mula sem cabeça"): said to be the ghost of a woman who was condemned - after having an affair with a Catholic priest, which is a sinful in the Catholic church - to turn into a headless mule with fire coming out of it's neck from the sundown of thursday till the sunrise of friday, galloping through the fields. 3. The pink dolphin (or "Boto cor de rosa"): it's the myth of a dolphin who turns into a very handsome and seductive man during the time of some particular cultural festivities like the Santo Antônio and São João fests (very traditional Brazilian festivities in June) that is said to impragnate women and then leave them behind, turning back into a dolphin. Some signs you're interacting with the pink dolpin are that, when in it's man form, it is said to wear all-white clothes and shoes and a hat on his head, the biggest giveaway, as it's transformation is said not to be complete, leaving a hole on top of it's head (that being the hole through which dolphins breathe) - hence the hat to hide it. 4. Saci-pererê: described as a really small boy with only one leg and a red beanie-like hat, it's known for moving really fast and being a trickster, always pranking people and causing trouble wherever he goes. One of his ways of moving is jumping in circles until a whirlwind is formed around his leg, allowing him to move at a very fast speed. It's said to always be carrying a pipe and is also known for stealing pipes from people, which is also a way to attract him. The only way to capture a saci, thus stopping him, is by using a sieve amist it's whirlwind until he stops, then removing his red beanie so that he loses his supernatural powers, and at last dropping him inside of a glass bottle (he's small enough to fit in one), sealing it with a cork and drawing a cross on the bottle, as it's the cross that prevents him from getting away, not the cork. Once captured, the saci then becomes obedient to it's captor, granting their wishes. These are the most famous ones and I find them some of the most interesting, since their legends are very story-heavy and rich in details and quirks. I'm sorry if I've made any mistakes as English isn't my first language.

in my culture back on the reservation, there was an elder I would listen to about the skin walker. interestingly enough he said to me "the skin walker isn't a person practicing dark things to mimic others, it in itself is a creature that has taken the skin of humans" so from what I've gathered is it's a misinterpretation from popular media, it was never a witch or any equivalent word. its something old, really old. but that's all I got on it. been a long time since I heard the story, I might go ask around next time I get the chance for more on it.

Sooooo, devil monkeys… I have a theory that some of these sightings are either released, escaped, abandoned, or feral former pet monkeys. I feel like it’s kind of weird that we don’t talk about how common some exotic pets were before we realized how dangerous they really could be (see the Travis the chimp incident). My great grandfather had a huge cage (think small grain silo-sized) with a bunch of monkeys in it in his backyard. This was in Illinois in the 1930s through the 1950s, so people still had a weird thing about exotic pets that they had absolutely no idea how to properly care for, nor did they have any business owning. My great grandpa’s monkeys were incredibly mean and violent, some witnesses in my family stating that they were capable of tearing other animals apart, limb for limb, through the sides of the cage. It didn’t matter if the other animal was as simple as an unfortunate squirrel or rabbit that was passing by, or someone’s beloved pet, they would destroy and eat the remains of anything they could. It’s super messed up, and no one really knows what happened to the monkeys after he moved from his house to an apartment later in life. I really wonder if they euthanized them or if the just let them loose. My great grandfather was an absolutely wild human being, so I could see him just letting the monkeys run free, thus allowing them to reek havoc on the nearby towns.

hey uncle wendigoon, are you ever going to do a video about a game called "Darkwood" it's essentially survival horror about a virus infecting the lands of poland in the 1960's or 1980's, the virus turns the inhabitants into monsters, for the sake of the world, the government closes off the rest of the forrest from further destruction, you play as one of the survivors trying to escape the nightmare full of rotten and mutated creatures. It's an underrated and in my opinion the best indie horror of all time, acid wizard studios deserve all the praise

I'm sure you hear this all the time but BROTHER. It is so sick to see how far you've come, and it's even cooler to see that your format and approach has remained more or less the same the whole way through. Really heartwarming to see someone making the content they like to make in earnest and see huge success doing it. Well deserved success, happy to be along for the ride, stoked to see you continue to crush it, excited to follow your content for the foreseeable future. Literally haven't disliked a single thing you've made. You're goated for sure. Happy New Year Isaiah!

One of my favorite relative unknown cryptids is the Aswang. There exists alot of different forms of Aswang (filipinian vampire) that takes the form of a pretty woman. but i am going to talk about the vampire version specificly. 1. They can walk in the sunlight. But turn into a ugly monster at night. 2. In some stories i read, they could seprate their arms. Like their cousin Manananggala could seprate their upper torso, grow wings then fly. 3. They dont suck blood through their teeth but through their long slim worm like tongue with a sharp needle at the tip. That way they can drink peoples blood without going inside the house. 3. They usualy hunt people through two ways. A) attack children and pregnant women at night like normal vampires. B) catfishing random guys, marrying them and then drain them of blood (and possibly money).

As a lifelong Oregonian, sturgeon have always freaked me tf out. Ive seen them in captivity and in rivers around the area. I once went cliff jumping and my leg brushed up against one and it was scarier than jumping off the cliff.

That cryptid was my favorite one because 1 - like he said it's like a fisherman's tale 2 - it's not like the dinosaur in Africa or ape men where it's a bit silly but it sounds like something that could be completely real. Carp can get massive and surely a sturgeon could be so much more 3 - love me fish

Consider all the horrors of what Wendi covers, and then consider how positive all these videos are even in the most horrific topics. Our boy is educating us to the horrors of the world and running a hyper positive fellowship at the same time somehow.

I think that currently any very-christian, pro-gun person is getting lumped in with homophobes and the MAGA crowd and their infamous behavior/favoring of tyranny. He, thankfully, is a GOOD Christian (this coming from an atheist) and just wants people to be happy with themselves and be kind to each other. Which, honestly, is all anyone wants. We just want to be safe and comfortable and have others feel and be safe and comfortable. Twitter/Threads/X has a lot of both dissenting and echoing opinions on both sides. Everyone needs to do their best to make their own friends and family happy and healthy and to be as kind as they can be. More or less, mind your own business and work for common good. Too bad humanity can't seem to agree on what is "good".
