Thanks for posting this video. I just picked up an 1812 with only 309 hours. You’ve answered a lot of questions that I had and you also went over several things I hadn’t thought of. Thanks for the tip on IH Hytran vs the John Deere hydraulic fluid and filter. 👍 Cheers, Whipple

No problem, glad I was able to help! Good luck with the 1812. Sounds like a true survivor with such low hours.

@@MichaelTJD60 I live in western PA. Not a lot of Cub Dealers with old stock around me. Can you give me the contact info for the Cub Cadet Parts guy you go to? Thanks! Merry Christmas! Cheers! Whipple

Yeah it really is a smooth runner! I love the sound of it. Having the side panels on it REALLY quiets it down.

That thing does run great! It’s hard to beat a well tuned opposed twin.

Agreed! Horizontal opposed-twin engines are my favorite.

I have the same cub cadet, I was wondering what kind of rear end oil do you use?
@MichaelTJD60
@MichaelTJD60 6 жыл бұрын
They recommend Case IH Hy-Tran, but I use John Deere low-viscosity Hy-Gard. It's basically the same thing, and these old Cub Cadets use the same hydrostatic pump as the John Deere garden tractors from that era, so I just buy the John Deere oil and filters. They are a bit cheaper too.

I wouldn't recommend any other type of oil, though. Stick to either the Hy-Tran or Hy-Gard.

Can I Install a 3 point hitch on a jd 316 and also can I convert the snow blade from my 212 to the 316 by adding the hydraulic cylinder?
@MichaelTJD60
@MichaelTJD60 6 жыл бұрын
Yes and yes. If you have a closed-frame 316 (Kohler), you might have a hard time finding a 3-point hitch because they are somewhat uncommon, but an open-frame 316 (Onan) 3-point hitch is much easier to come by. You can mount the 212 blade on the 316 but will need to weld a couple brackets on the blade frame so you can mount the lift cylinder.

Well fortunately the one I might be getting in a couple of days is a 1990 with the 18 hp onan

Check your local craigslist. You can buy a brand new one from rueggmfg.com, who I highly recommend.

Hello, just started watching your videos and I appreciate the knowledge you spread. I got a 1995 265 for $300 last week. It ran rough but drove great so i put some time and money into now it runs great and starts easy and everything. Do you have any advice on it or things I should look out for? Thank you.

Thanks for subscribing! The biggest thing to worry about with that era of JD equipment were the flimsy plastic hoods. They break really easily, so if your hood is still intact, just be careful opening and closing it. The upper and lower hood sections can be bought new on eBay in case the old hood breaks. Other than the hood, I can't really think of any major issues those tractors had. The 240-320 series were really durable tractors for their size.
