It's funny because you watch Ian Astbury (the lead singer) in interviews, he seems like a very soft spoken (literally, he talks super quiet) British man. Then you hear him sing, and he has one of the most massive voices ever.

When I lived in LA, Ian Astbury would sometimes be hanging out at the clubs - The Whiskey, Viper Room, etc... whatever band would hear that he was there and start playing Cult opening riffs and he would jump up on stage and do as many Cult songs as they new - it kind of became a thing... he even just sang Happy Birthday to a girl once. He was really cool and super approachable.

My sister caught one of Ian’s tambourines at one of his concerts and had it personally signed years later. True story: Before one of the Cults concerts, we saw Ian at a Starbucks and my sister had brought the tambourine with her (hoping to get it signed) She was hesitant to approach him and ask him to sign it, not wanting to make a scene. (I kept nudging her to go up to him) She went up to him respectfully and told him we were there to watch his concert that night. Ian seemed bothered but signed her tambourine anyway. To this day she still has that tambourine.

Don't forget Velvet Revolver. It's kind of funny. You see him here and in GNR and he looks so tough and menacing, but to hear him talk, he's got this high pitched, kind of nasally tone, and he's on the shorter side. He's definitely a perfectionist. He doesn't tolerate messing around.

Matt Sorum did not play on this one. He only toured with them on the Sonic Temple Tour in 1989. The drums on the album is by Mickey Curry, who used to play in Bryan Adams' band. Sorum only played with The Cult in 2001 on their comeback album Beyond Good and Evil, after he got fired by Axl. Shortly after touring with The Cult he then started with Velvet Revolver with Slash, Duff and Scott Weiland.

The Cult may have had a short lived life, but the songs out there have so many hooks in them. They jam hard.

First saw them in Austin when they opened for REM in 1989 and still remember their performance to this day. Probably one of the best underrated band ever. Great vocals, great guitars, great drums, bad ass bass lines. Love this band. I saw someone post i think on another channel and i agree with them, “i don’t always listen to the Cult, but when i do, so do the neighbors!” Couldnt be more true. Thanks for this video.

Dang it!!! I didn't get a notification for this one!! If I had, I would've been on it like flies on .... well, you know what ;) Gonna watch it now!!! YAY!! EDIT: Watched it now.... That was adorable.... He said "shake, shake, shake it" in the beginning and you started grooving and didn't stop through the whole thing!! That's what this song did to all of us back then too!! Good times!!! One of my all-time favorite songs..... great reaction!!! :)

I was a fan in the earlier days, but this song came out and blew everybody's faces off. There's no mistaking Ian's voice, he's an incredible front man. I got to see them on tour for this album and they were everything you see in this video. And yes, that HAIR oh my goodness 🔥 Women all over the world were turned on and jealous at the same time lol

Man, this brings back memories. I lived in LA in the late 80’s, running lights for bands at the Whisky, the Roxy, the old Marquee down in Orange County... Hearing Ian and the boys takes me right back to those days. Thank you, Jamel!
