Dave Ramsey always bashes mnn, its just irritating. I have encountered his type at my work. My ex-manager would go out of his way to belittle and yell at male staff next to registers at the Stop & Shop Supermarket i worked at. I never saw him do that with women, even if they called out, came in late, didnt finish work etc etc etc. Its disgusting behavior and also very creepy.

Dave’s “rant” about $600 not making a difference is what turned me away from watching him. He’s so out of touch with real life and probably has been for awhile. He’s made millions, meanwhile the common people still struggle to make it by. I laughed at one video of him saying to a caller to buy a $1,000 car. I’m like, “Um Dave. $1,000 cars no longer exist.” Also, when you can’t afford diapers for the baby because of the pandemic, $600 helps a lot!

I've seen his videos before. There's nothing to follow. Try to pay cash or keep any loans within your budget. Don't carry credit card debt. Contribute to a savings account. Think about your purchases/don't buy stuff on impulse or stuff you really don't need. Contribute to a retirement fund. Contribute to an index fund. If you do have credit card debt pay off the lowest card first and "snowball" the payment into the next lowest card to pay off everything quicker. I may have missed a few (it's late and I'm tired). But it's all common sense type of stuff. Credit card debt can chew through household income with ease. Once it's gone you'll find you have a lot more money to do the positive things listed above. I'm not seeing why someone would need to drag that advise out for years and have a following. Either his fans did the right thing or they didn't. If they're listening to him (or anyone else that milks this advise for make a living) after they've eliminated their debt then they may have other issues.

Good question: after reading the Bible several times and debt is not a sin just not recommended. Sin is something that is destructive to yourself or others. Things that can put you on a cliff are not sin like having a beer. If you pound a 12 pack a day than that is jumping off the cliff. Jesus made water into wine and it was a massive amount as in about 120 gallons of top shelf wine.

Dave Ramsey is a perfect example of what happens when a child is not allowed to fail, has everything handed to them and told their poop don't stink. They have to construct a story that they did it all on their own while disparaging those who actually do, because it gives them an inferiority complex to look at people struggling. He has never really struggled because he always had his parent's money to fall back on.

In reality, he's probably just playing the role of a Christian. He doesn't exhibit the qualities of a Christian and any charity he gives to is for a tax write off and not out of some desire to do good. You can judge a man by who his friends are and if his friend has had affairs on his wife and he's alright with it, that tells me about all I need to know. His other comments just back up my assessment that he's playing a role for his audience of boomers.

@@ColonelHoganStalag13 He's an evangelical Christian. Their entire world view requires that they believe they are superior to all of humanity, including other Christians. When a non-evangelical Christian does something immoral, they are hopeless sinners. When an evangelical does the same, God will forgive them because they are inherently better. They go to the right church, after all. Its why he often attributes immorality as the cause of poverty; because he believes that if one is "good" like him, God will make them wealthy if only they try juuuust a little bit. After all, he's only had to try a little bit, and look how wealthy he is! Its also why he and others like him are so opposed to government assistance, but usually are okay with charity. When the government gives people money, they consider it to be their tax money going to filthy heathens who choose not to help themselves. But when they give money, they can choose to give it to the "right people" on their terms. Bonus points if they can make them feel indebted to their religion. Its all a matter of control.

@@CheezMonsterCrazy I know you don't need this said to you, but I say it just so that a counter to Dave's worldview outlined in that comment exists adjacent to it. God doesn't forgive anyone because they're better, as all have fallen short of perfection. No one is "good enough" for God, that's why forgiveness is a gift of grace. All who want it receive it. The only prerequisite is to ask. As for immorality causing poverty, yes, immorality can cause poverty. After all, if you're a glutton or lustful, you might partake in acts that cause your money to bleed from you. Although, immorality can also make you wealthy, if your vice is greed. As for the converse, if God implies wealth, not necessarily. What is implied is that you will always have what you 'need' (i.e. won't die of starvation). Anything beyond that feels situational, like, you don't pray to God to become rich, as then wealth is like your idol. If anything, you'd pray to be able to help the poor, and God would provide you with a means to do that (notice though, the money would flow through you, NOT into you). For the charity vs. government assistance thing, I honestly don't know a good viewpoint for this as that's a politics meets religion situation. The only Biblical reference I could use is the thing with the denarius where Jesus says "render unto Caesar what is Caesar's." So, they should be fine paying the tax, as that's the present law, and how the government uses it is how the government uses it (Although, then you get into the situation of: ok, if the government uses taxes for war, should one not judge how the collected money is used?) I think the basic logic though for why a Christian might be pro charity vs. government hand out is because, in the prior, it has an additional impact. At least in my personal heart, if I give you something, hopefully you feel the love of a fellow human, compassion. When the government gives it, it's just something dead, inorganic. By virtue of the prior containing true compassion for one's fellow man, the hope is that it would actually result in a greater change on the afflicted person, beyond just the number on their bank account.

I’m not defending anything in this video or Dave as a whole, but some people do just need to have those things told to them and slammed down their throat. Lots of people in this country have no financial literacy, put everything on cards, live way beyond their means, finance a new car on a small income, take huge student loans for a degree that won’t pay enough to repay it, etc. I agree with Josh here, Dave is an asshole, but he’s also right that our society has an addiction to debt, not enough people are properly taught about it before they are adults

I like Techlead and Engineering with Utsav, but you are 'by far' my favorite of the three channels. Keep it real and keep doing what you do. When I went to the University of California, the total money sent each semester to the university was $125.00. So $600.00 would pay for two years (4 semesters) and I would have $100.00 left over. By the way rent was only about $75.00 per month. Then the Boomers came along and got the same low costs but jacked everything up when they got in control. The Baby Boomer generation overall was a disgusting generation.

The program as 3 years long and my last semester (2terms) was an internship where I paid tuition to work 50 hrs a week, unpaid. This of course doe not include overpriced textbooks books and other expenses. I now work in my field and make less annually than I paid yearly in tuition. The only way I could afford it is because I literally sold my younger years and mental health to the government by serving in the army.

While I find Dave Ramsay to be arrogant and dogmatic, your generalization about “poster child of a Boomer” is highly unfair and does little to advance your argument or credibility. @@thomburleson7661 I think the assessment is fair. A LOT of the boomers who are set to inherit mass wealth are out of touch. Their attitude is pull yourself up by the bootstraps and stop complaining. They fail to realize they benefited from mass amount of government help and programs GI Bill, New Deal etc... (almost all exclusively went to whites). They are the products of a time when wages were comparable to inflation. Not all boomers are out of touch but a significant amount of them are and unfortunately that demographic is overly represented among our elected officials which is problematic.

When I would first hear Dave's shows and stuff, I thought to myself, "well that's what my grandmother would say" about so many things.. "when the going get tough, the tough get a job" and all that. I didn't realize what a great grandmother I had until I realized so many people didn't have that base with which to work. She always taught me that we have to work for what we have, and be frugal, but generous with those who don't have as much. Dave's speeches and methods were simple to me; I just didn't realize he was making a cult out of it, which he obviously has done. Very sad indeed.

Every time someone makes a career off of giving advice to people that about 40% of random people with a few weeks research could, you have to conclude that this person is in it for the money and recognition they get, not because they're truly passionate about helping people. Good educators are always learning more themselves so they can teach better, not repeating 8-10 basic things over and over.
