The main reason i'm feeling lost is because other grownups suddenly just stopped ordering me around, and to think that i actually wanted this to happen when i was a teen but now that i'm being held responsible for my own life i feel like such a useless person who can't even figure out how to handle his own self

@@youneskasdi That is why you cultivate discipline, which will take work. I'm only figuring that out, really, at age 29. Started occurring to me maybe two years ago. Being an adult (that others would respect) means that you need to learn how to crack the whip on yourself. That is being an adult and that is being disciplined. Do difficult things because you know they will make you better. Children are incapable of this. But this is ideally, what makes adults different.

the problem is you morons are spoon fed your entire life and never listened to yourself or cultivated an understanding of yourself.so now you are completely empty and shallow. I am 32 years old and about to turn 33 I wasted... Absolutely WASTED every single day of my 20's. I'll never get it back. Until right this second I've never talked about it with anyone because I've felt so ashamed of myself and my life. I genuinely hated myself.. For about 8 straight years. Not just because I'm boring, it was "oh if I don't wake up tomorrow the world will be all the better for it." I didn't care if I lived or died because for almost 10 years I did nothing with myself because I lost everyone I thought was a friend and my Ex had cheated on me and was just going on dumb tinder dates that were meaningless until I stopped even going out because why even? After high school my friends either moved away or moved on and I stayed in place. My 20's... That whole decade where you hear people having the best times of their lives was so excruciating for me and to make it worse I had no one to talk to. I didn't tell my parents about my depression or suicide attempt because I couldn't take them thinking they did something wrong to produce a worthless son who tried to kill himself and even failed at that twice. THINGS CHANGED though. I know its going to sound cringe but it's what happened. My life got better when my dog came into my life. I never had a dog take to me like Ty did(My dog's name is Ty short for Tyrion) He has shown me so much love so unconditionally and I have experienced so much joy just because he is so attached to me. Why he became attached to me? We don't know but we are inseparable, He is a medium big dog which means he needs walks which means I had to get out of the house, which meant I probably had to interact with other humans... And I did.... And within a year our development or part of the town we live in... They all know me and they know Ty and I'm not alone. I found a part of myself I assumed was dead and I'm alive because of my dog. My relationship with my parents is the best it's ever been, people actual care about me... Our neighbors know me and even give me Christmas gifts it's insane. I thought I was too far gone, I had wasted too much of my life, I had done nothing with myself and while I'll never have my 20's back I always have right now, I will always have knowing that unconditional love is real and even though eventually Ty will pass on he will always be the reason I learned to love not just myself but love life. I've skipped a lot but this is too long as it it. I just want people to know that it is NEVER too late to change your life or find a reason to love yourself. Will it take time? Fuck yes. Will it be easy? No, but you will slowly find reasons you might have not known were there to love yourself to stick around. The world has some beautiful stories, you are one of them... I hope to hear yours. If anyone reading this wants to vent, or talk or tell me their story I'll always be here to listen feel fress to contact me. Thank you for your post and allowing me to tell my story and giving me hope for the future. It means more than you may ever know.

@@nervrenders I had a whole paragraph written down about my life and the things I regret, but it was all randomly deleted so I'll try writing it again: Reading your story made me cry; it's very inspiring, and I'm glad you're in a better position now. In my case, I spent most of my teenage years being a burden and doing nothing but playing games, I only became an excellent student on my last two years of highschool but for all the wrong reasons (seeking validation from people and expecting them to praise me), I didn't go into college right away cause I graduated in 2020 and COVID didn't allow me to study in US like I wanted to, spent every single fucking day after graduation just playing online games instead of studying, I don't even know how to fucking drive, the online friends who helped me get through depression and helped me accept myself as who I am turned on me and made up false accusations, spent half of 2021 doing nothing and the other half trying to do something but just failing to commit, trying to change in 2022 but it's the same fucking thing again. I'm turning 20 this march 2nd and I don't know what the fuck I'm supposed to do with my life. I'm afraid the years will pass and I'll be as useless as ever. I'm afraid I'll end up like my brother who, although graduated in civil engineering, is working at a bakery earning minimal wage. Hell, I'm afraid time is just gonna pass, I'll become older, and everyone will leave me behind while I still try to figure out my life... I don't know what the fuck to do and procrastinating is hard to get over...

I'm 26 right now and hit "reboot" on my life at 24. I had 2 choices, complain about my bad decisions and dwindling health, or take a step back and think about what I *really* want to do. Now I've moved back home, paid all my debts, and started writing my novel. I also started learning all the subjects I wanted to take in school but was afraid because they were for "smart people", namely programming, filmmaking, graphic design, and math. I've lost 88 pounds doing simple exercises and eating low carb, and got rid of my t2 diabetes that I inherited from a decade of ramen, pizza, and video games. I have no idea where I'll end up doing all this, but I'm the happiest I've ever been. I'd rather have a low paying career doing what I want and be happy, than go back to my old life and bury myself in depression.

Which basically means I'm not really gonna get anything out of it as I already know what he's talking about and I don't recall him giving a solution. Uh as for the boasting/annoyed thing I didn't really interpret it like that. (I believe I zoned out halfway thru the video tho and started reading comments which might I add I read the married at 21 and was utterly surprised) So yeah not really defending him just your comment by itself seemed petty if you add the comment the next guy made... Like I didn't get where you both were coming from. Now that you explained your view I guess if I rewatched the video I probably could see it, but the content in itself is mundane and that could be why I looked towards the comments for like stories of how ppl overcame their issues and whatnot. So i'll just take your word that he came off obnoxious if you look in between his words. 2/10 enjoyment 7/10 explanation "manage to create the idea that what they went through was tough and painful unlike anyone else and that they somehow deserve the attention"- welcome to every social media platform :D where everyone has an opinion and you best believe it'll be shared. anyway thx 4 the reply i appreciate it

I'm 65 and this is what I think I figured out: Every experience you had in the past got to where you are today.... Go back and change what? Different doesn't mean better just different but you still have lessons to learn that only experience can give you! Taking an "L" doesn't mean necessarily mean "loss" but can mean "lesson" ... From where I'm standing from your introspection and self-awareness, you're doing just fine! :-) (Edit) One last thing: Growth is a constant process of refinement; you're not the same person you were and not the person you're going to be! The late, great Muhammad Ali said something along the lines of: "If you're the same person at 40 that you were at 20, you wasted 20 years of your life"

I'm 28 years old, and feel like I have been in a coma for a decade, war started in 2011, displaced in late 2012 and moved to a rented apartment. In 2018 my family's apartment has been destroyed and afterwards visited the ruins of my childhood memories, now in 2021 I've moved to Turkey, but life still didn't recover too much, as I suffer from depression/a bit of social anxiety particularly when I compare myself with my peers whom lived the same shitty circumstances or fled to Europe and graduated and have a job makes me feel more like a loser... while I was panicking and worrying about war, missiles, bad situation, what's going to happen next, I wasted my 20's and didn't manage to concentrate on studying which led to drop out of college... But even though I feel broken inside and behind in life I didn't surrender, currently trying my best to improve my English and learn some useful skills and looking for an online job in order to help my old parents and boost self-esteem as well.

None of what I just said matters. None of my hardships or accomplishments matter. You are your own person with your own unique experiences, hardships, and accomplishments. DO NOT compare yourself to me, the guy in this video, your peers, or anyone else. I personally believe that this video was simply an expression of built up emotions from a 29 y/o guy who felt he was ready for change in his life. THAT'S GREAT. We all go through this sometimes and this video brought you here, as it did me, because we are probably in our twenties and looking for some sound advice, or maybe we also feel that we have "wasted our 20's." That's the only problem. He did more than fine until now to be honest.

@@es_three232 40% of marriages fail. Why is that? That could be many many reasons. The risk of getting fucked over by divorce laws for men is too high and it's pretty much not worth it. Better to just live life doing things for yourself and yourself only. If marriage comes along, great! If it doesn't, then that's okay too. I've seen a good friend of mine get so desperate looking "for the one" and he gets fucked over by women all the time and is still blinded by his desire for women. Your sole purpose of living shouldn't be to get wamen. Too many people want their love life to be like a Disney movie but that's not how the world works.

I think the feeling of "wasting time" is basically just a feeling of ignoring the inner call to action. We become desensitized to our inner voice and when challenges arise we don't know how to navigate our emotional world. We start believing that the reason I am lost is because I am not where society thinks I should be which at some point you adopted as your own belief. The truth is we have been brainwashed (not in some conspiracy way) into believing in a story that is so far removed from the reality of our life. If you feel disconnected youtube a guy named Gabor Mate, his words have helped me along my journey.

I'm 34, and I don't feel like I wasted my 20s. That decade was an important time to be miserable, embrace feeling depressed, lost and shut off from the world. All of those negative feelings forced me to shine a difficult light on myself and really work out what makes me tick. Nobody could tell me how to be me, not even my parents or people who cared about me. That's why everyone gave me the vanilla go to school / get a job and family story. It takes real work to come to a self understanding. Work I had to do myself. Work I had to do alone. And now that it's with me, looking back on that misery. It was a stepping stone to give me the spiritual happiness I have now.

Did I need this dark miserable, unemployed, lost and lonely few years? Yes. Because without that, I dont think I would have ever found the will inside me to make something out of myself. This is like my third or fourth time watching this video. The first time I saw this I was 22 (almost 25 now) and the amount of wisdom josh drops in this cannot be overstated. Someone definitely turned that dial for me. Thanks for making this, I feel like I'll be coming back to this video again and again. Gotta find a way to pave my own path and create my own experiences.

I started reading books, I dropped from uni & took a break now I am looking for another uni. I tried committing suicide but what did I do in my life to end it? I want to leave a mark in the world before I leave. I am now learning Italian & Spanish Just from youtube. IT'S NEVER THE END. I am living with depression & suicidal thoughts but I will never end my life that's what I know. KEEP FIGHTING.

KZbin programming community needed a guy like you for a long time. Every coder I see on this website puts up a fake facade showing off how his/hers life is amazing and they just eat tasty lunch everyday. They catch attention of obsessive people like myself and turn them into lonely workaholics. With your realism, no bullshit policy and honesty you bring balance to this ecosystem by telling people to invest in multiple areas of life, so if one fails they have something to fall onto. Thank you for influencing my life and making it better, you are doing amazing sir, keep doing what you're doing and I hope to see you become bigger and bigger channel over time. #grindreel

I can agree there are some fake people, but there are also many different personalities with different goals. I think josh is still very much in the search of his soul and what makes him happy, i can still hear in his voice that he has some questions in his head that he cannot answer.

how to waste your 20's: Think that happiness will only pertain to you once you reach a destination. When in reality, happiness can only be formulated on the journey. The journey is the happiness catalyst, the destination is the relief of all the hard work and commitment to the thing you love. If you don't love the journey you are currently on, you are traveling to an endless abyss of unfulfillment.

Yeah I’m 23 and already having thoughts that humans shouldn’t naturally live to like 80 or something. You feel like you’ve already done most of the special stuff in life, like you know what being an adult is, and you just have to keep yourself entertained for another 65 years or so with random exciting events in between (wedding, kids, etc) until you die?!? It gets grim guys, if you’re reading this and younger than me, go enjoy life instead of playing video games in your room. You have more than enough time to do that later, until you’re bored of it... 😬

Well if it helps no matter what you do whether you spend 24 hours a day playing video games or 24 hours a day writing code, it won't matter in a billion years. Literally nothing that any one is doing in the world right now matters for anything in the long-term and if you take into account the ridiculous size of the universe it doesn't matter in the short-term either. You, me, jeff bezos, bill gates, some random homeless guy, in the big picture all of our contributions will be approximately the same: zero. I find that thought soothing in a weird way. It's all about not taking stuff too seriously while you are here I think.
