Since November 23rd of last year, among NHL starting goalies with 6 or more games, Skinner is tied with Hellebuyck with the 3rd best save percentage with a .928. Hope he can keep this hot streak going.

It appears that Josh Brown could be more valuable when the hockey gets heavier and more is on the line. He was signed on July 1st of last year to counteract Zadorov whenever The Oilers played the Canucks. But on the same day, the Canucks let him go when they couldn't come to terms on a contract extension. Many Oiler fans were glad to see Zadorov move out of the Western Conference.

Like many residents of New York at the time, Tex Rickard was from someplace else, namely Texas, hence the name Tex. So the hockey franchise he started was "Tex's Rangers"---the New York Rangers so as to differentiate them from the New York Americans, who were already playing at Madison Square Garden, which was built for boxing. (Tex Rickard was a big boxing promoter before he saw a hockey game and the attendance figures the Americans were drawing.

Game 40. Long post follows with base game statistics including some for the Boston Bruins. Read, don't read, up to you. These are BASE stats not detailed ones like the Cult of Hockey compiles. My comments and observations at the end. Statistics for Edmonton Oilers at Boston Bruins January 7th, 2025 Edmonton Oilers: Henrique 2 Goals McDavid 1 Goal (PP) Arvidsson 1 Goal (Empty Netter) Perry 1 Primary Assist Kulak 1 Primary Assist (Empty Netter), 1 Secondary Assist Nuge 1 Primary Assist (PP) J Skinner 1 Primary Assist Hyman 1 Secondary Assist Skinner 26 Saves pm 26 Shots = 1.000 Save %age (54 Minutes Played) Pickard 0 Saves on 0 Shots = 0.000 Save %age (5 Minutes Played) Boston Bruins: Swayman 35 Saves on 38 Shots = .921 Save %age (59 Minutes Played) Oilers Bruins Shots on Goal 39 26 Hits 18 45 Faceoffs Won 27 20 PP 1/3 0/2 Penalty Mins 9 11 Giveaways 12 (9 per NST) 11 (8 per NST) Takeaways 13 (10 per NST) 11 (9 per NST) Blocked Shots 16 (11 per NST) 17 (16 per NST) 3 Stars: 3-McDavid (1G (PP)), 2-Henrique (2G), 1-Skinner (1.000 Save %age) Player TOI PP TOI PK TOI SOG +/- PIM Hits Blocks Giveaways Takeaways Kulak 24:24 0:00 2:33 1 2 0 0 3 1 0 Nurse 23:50 0:55 2:00 4 1 0 3 1 1 0 Bouchard 20:56 4:01 0:33 5 0 0 0 2 1 1 Ekholm 19:34 0:19 0:54 1 0 2 3 0 1 2 Emberson 15:53 0:00 2:00 0 2 0 0 4 2 2 J Brown 11:49 0:09 0:48 1 1 0 4 0 0 0 Draisaitl 20:07 3:43 0:22 3 1 2 0 0 0 0 McDavid 18:04 3:40 0:37 5 0 0 0 1 0 0 Podkolzin 16:38 0:00 1:04 5 1 0 5 2 0 0 Nuge 16:20 3:46 1:09 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 Hyman 15:42 3:45 0:21 3 1 0 0 1 0 0 Arvidsson 15:42 0:27 0:00 3 1 0 0 0 0 2 Henrique 14:32 0:52 1:04 2 2 0 0 1 0 2 C Brown 14:27 0:00 1:55 1 0 0 0 0 1 0 Kapanen 12:33 0:00 1:07 0 1 0 1 0 0 0 J Skinner 12:21 0:48 0:00 3 1 0 1 0 1 0 Janmark 11:37 0:00 2:01 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 Perry 11:31 0:22 0:00 1 1 5 1 0 1 0 Oilers Faceoff Breakdown: Won Lost Percent Henrique 8 1 88.9 Draisaitl 8 3 72.7 McDavid 6 7 46.2 Janmark 4 5 44.4 Arvidsson 1 0 100.0 Podkolzin 0 1 0.00 Perry 0 1 0.00 Hyman 0 2 0.00 Bruins's Faceoff Breakdown: Won Lost Percent Lindholm 6 8 42.9 Frederic 6 6 50.0 Kastellic 4 2 66.7 Zacha 2 4 33.3 Geekie 1 6 14.3 Beecher 1 1 50.0 Still feeling awful and still waiting on eye surgery so personal comments will be limited. When is a Shutout NOT a Shutout? When Nikita Zadorov using a dangerous line runs over your goalie Stuart Skinner who's back of his head hit the net/crossbar. The back of the head isn't protected almost at all so automatic Concussion Protocol and in went Pickard who didn't take a shot during the 5 minutes he was on. Stu came back and played the remainder of the night lights out but still a 1.000 Save %age that is NOT a Shutout. From the stats: Oilers really outshot Boston (39 to 26), hit a lot less (though more than normal) (18 to 45), won more faceoffs (27 to 20), scored on 1 of 3 PP chances while keeping Boston from scoring on their 2 PP opportunities (so PK 100%). Oilers took fewer penalties, had one more Giveaway, 2 more Takeaways, and 1 less Blocked Shot. This was a chippy affair. Perry and Frederic got into a fight in the 2nd where Frederic took a roughing penalty as well (served by Oliver Wahlstrom) and that was the PP the Oilers scored on. Rico potted two. Connor finally scored (the PP goal assisted by Nuge) and Arvidsson got the Empty Netter (assist to Kulak who also assisted on the first Rico goal). Swayman lost another one (his 4th straight) for Boston who have lost 5 in a row. Oilers are the opposite of that having won 4 in a row now. Oilers face Sid in Pittsburgh next and Bruins go to Tampa Bay to face the Lightning. Take care all.

Good hockey by the Oilers, looking like the talented team that made the cup final. The only issue I’m seeing is their lack of physicality and tough players. If they don’t add another tough pesky forward even with Kane coming back they are gonna get pushed around again in playoffs.

Great game - well played by almost the whole team. I would be remiss in not asking if Bruce still thinks that Jon Cooper has erred in not taking Bouchard with him to the 4 Nations Cup. Absolutely brutal giveaways leading to two (2) breakaways. If they could find someone to take his place even for a shift, he should be sat to send a message.

...maybe I'm in the minority here: I don't agree that Zadorov was as big a villain here as you let on. Two or three things... Skinner is a big guy. Yes, Zadorov is bigger. Zadorov went to the net, but Kulak cut off anywhere else to go except through the crease. Kulak was late, but if not he could have shoved Zadorov through the net post and problem solved. Kulak (choir boy, I guess) didn't do that. Finally, the contact on Skinner was much less that it could have been... SKINS was essentially only pushed back. I don't believe Zadorov went THROUGH SKINS at all. And certainly not into the far net post at all. Zadorov could have landed ON SKINS as well, and didn't. IMHO SKINS threw off his helmet immediately only to ensure a penalty (it was contact in the crease, obviously... but who knows if 'game management' was to be a factor) would be called. If anyone that big, coming that fast, actually wanted to hurt someone... they would do a better job than Zadorov did there. Could SKINS have been hurt? He really wasn't. But if Zadorov had wanted to drive him back , through the far post, he certainly could have.
@Redskydigger13 күн бұрын
LOL Are you watching the same game as us? You can clearly see that he ran through Skinner.
@Ace96x104 күн бұрын
Skinner "run 5 times" (now 6) and there is no response at all. Why not just paint a target and bullseye on our Goalies Jerseys, because it's open season on running anyone here. Soft as butter in a sauna, all that skill won't be worth Jack S in a playoff game vs a big mean strong skilled team, of which they are about 4-5 of them. Thank Goodness Kane will be back, but that isn't enough. Get some size and mean and grit in an acquired D man, Because they are going to really need one come playoff time. imo)
