I'd say this or even Love Removal Machine would be more like their signature song. But since Fire Woman was their big chart hit and it mixes both the hard rock and new wave sides of the band you might be right lol. whatever, all 3 tracks rock...Please @THIS IS IT Reactions do one on The Cult's Wolf Child Blues ...cheers from Peru

I'd argue this is their signature song which put them on the map. A lot of great music I heard before Fire Woman came out. I agree they were criminally underrated. The record labels held them back or something.

Alternative?? lol They are a hard rock band . Look up there bio jn iTunes or Spotify Billy duffy would strangle you if he heard you called them alternative lol For instance . This structure of this song is a good old fashioned 12 bar blues riff , with Billy playing melodies on top of it . Just because the guitar had a lot of chorus and delay on it doesn’t mean it’s alternative . It’s rock . Period . Not sure where you were in the 80s , that a blues based metal band was being played in an alternative club ?
@jonibz1456Ай бұрын
@@michaelforsythe8682 They were defiantly alternative doing the 80's, as Southern Death Cult they had a slightly different sound going on with a lot of electric percussion, its was not until their 3rd album where they really hit the rock side running. they were more part of the underground goth/ new wave thing in the UK about that time.
@raeann63Ай бұрын
this was a HUGE hit in the clubs back in '85, the dance floor would immediately fill up lol. ian astbury's movement and style were singularly his, not intending to riverdance or anything, just move how the music made him feel. he did always remind me of a cross between jim morrison of the doors and steven tyler of aerosmith. he is also kinda a dead ringer to be liv tyler's twin brother imo 😄 the whole working the mic stand is the signature move of early rod stewart, starting when he was with the faces. also used a bit by john waite when he was with the babys - love the moves and them! ❤ next cult song should be "love removal machine". so glad y'all enjoyed!

This is the place to start with the Cult. This was the song that generated interest in the album (“Love”) which in turn supported the next one (“Electric”), etc. Mandatory listening for the newborn Goth crowd, and you can hear echoes of this in their biggest hit: “Fire Woman”, off of “Sonic Temple”. All worth a listen. Keep Enjoying, dudes.

As a boomer, I've always enjoyed The Cult. I finally got to see them a few years back. Their audio recording do not do justice to Billy Duffy's vastly underrated and underappreciated guitar playing, which I didn't realize until that night. They don't tour thru the Midwest often but if they ever are close to you, wherever you may live, they are definitely a must see and hear band.

Ian's got a phenomenal voice, he still has it. He and Billy Duffy, the guitarist, are a team and are still touring as The Cult. People who've seen them recently say they're still kicking ass. I saw them twice in the 90s and they were so good. Ian later joined the surviving members of the Doors, and did a bunch of performances with them. No one can take Jim Morrison's place, but Ian Astbury comes the closest. We always said that in the 80s, too, before he worked with the Doors. Great reaction, guys!

The Cult was chaotic band - essentially 2 members Ian Astbury (vocals) and Billy Duffy (guitar)... bassist Jamie Stewart left in 1990 weary of the infighting between the 2. They were an amazing hard rock band w/ a mix of The Doors ... The Rolling Stones... and AC/DC. Originally called Southern Death Cult, the band shortened it to The Cult and released their debut album 'Dreamtime' in 1984... 2nd album 'Love' was a hit in 1985 w/ the single 'She sells sanctuary'... (One of the songs on the album was titled 'Nirvana') It was supposed to be followed by a sequel album 'Peace' in 1986, but The Cult didn't like the record and refused to release it. The Cult approached producer Rick Rubin to re-do the album and he helped craft a stellar 3rd album 'Electric' in 1987, which had the hits - 'Love removal machine'... "Lil' devil"... 🔥🔥🤘🤘and it sold platinum in the US. 4th album 'Sonic Temple' was released in 1989 and became their biggest-selling album (platinum in the US again) w/ the hits - 'Fire woman' ... the ballad "Edie (Ciao baby)" 🤘🤘🔥🔥 Unfortunately, Ian Astbury's alcoholism and conflicts w/ Billy Duffy led to bassist Jamie Stewart leaving in 1990 and the next album 'Ceremony' in 1991 and 'The Cult' in 1994 fell short of commercial success... The Cult split up by 1997. In 1999, Astbury and Duffy reconciled and began touring again as The Cult... they released a new album 'Beyond good and evil' in 2001... but record label issues and internal dissent led to The Cult splitting up again by 2002. In 2006, Astbury and Duffy got together again to tour as The Cult and things were better... They recorded and released a new album 'Born into this' in 2007 and began touring successfully again, having built a solid fanbase over decades w/ their music. Since then, The Cult has released several new albums - 'Choice of weapon' (2012)... 'Hidden City' (2017) ... and 'Under the Midnight Sun' (2022)
