you missed another factor. the push for reliability. 4 engines, 5 gearboxes for a season. 5 crashes and your in for big penaltys.
@MrVsGarage3 ай бұрын
It's true, but we've had that as a significant factor for the last 10 years. I will say teams have really nailed reliability in the last 2 or 3 (the 2023 Red Bull was basically bullet proof) but those years had the most safety car deployments we've ever seen

Another reason the cost cap prevents crashes is that nobody is desperate enough for sponsors to hire Nikita Mazepin etc any more. I wonder if the current generation of hybrids with self-starting electric motors also helps, reducing strandings after a stalled engine.

The 2024 F1 grid is the most stacked in talent it's ever been. 3 world champs, 10 race winners (Daniel included), and a further 3 podium finishers (yes including Lance). Include the highly experienced Hulkenberg, Zhou who doesn't crash much, Tsunoda who is getting better each race, and Colapinto has shown himself as a quality driver. Crash prone drivers have all been wiped out. No Sargeant, Latifi, Schumacher, and Mazepin.
@andyh13143 ай бұрын
2012 was pretty good for World Champs on the grid. Hamilton, Vettel, Alonso, Raikenen, Button, Schumacher, plus Rosberg who hadn't won it yet and the likes of Massa and Webber who lost one at the final race. But then they also had Grosjean and Maldonado 🤷
@scuderiasimp3 ай бұрын
Maybe a sneakier reason is Red Flags replacing the Safety Car for really big crashes? Personally it seems that since 2020, when we had that crazy Monza race, the FIA has been more sensitive to throwing out a Red Flag and thus sometimes uses the Red Flag instead of the Safety Car for serious incidents when it's a 50/50 call. This might accumulate to one or two missed Safety Cars across a season, but that's not nothing. Could be tin foil hattery, I'm just rambling here.

This era of formula just isn’t seeing much wheel to wheel racing. A lot of the battles end after one move where a driver overtakes and then speeds off. The thrill of racing this year has mostly come down to pit strategies and how well undercuts/overcuts work or the tyre offset between a 1 stop and 2 stop.

SC is not really necessary, especially now with the vsc. It was stated as a copy of the pace car (yeah, the one from indy) bc it allows better screening of the sponsors on the cars, it puts another car on track and they charge companies for being the SC. That said, as a fan, I like it a lot because of all the unfairness and chaos that brings.

I think this video missed the point and could have also focused on the tools that are in the hands of race control. When they were introduced, adv & disadv compared to safety cars and the severity of an inchident that would require one. Also, it would have been better to have some probability % as overly inaccurate data is true Mr V fashion what people come for.
