"Jack of all trades" is literally the original, its first known use was in 1612, if we don't count the quote from Robert Greene, "absolute Johannes Factotum" which is believed to be a quote about William Shakespeare. The "master of none" part was added in the eighteenth century, and the "better than a master of one" is such a modern addition that we don't even have a date set for it. My favorite misused and half used quote, is "the customer is always right", but the full one is "the customer is always right in matter of taste" and ever since I found it out, I corrected any customer that said it to me lol
@NottherealLucifer8 ай бұрын
That's yet another modern internet lie that has spread and is, ironically, the misuse of the original. The original phrase "The customer is always right" was popularized by Harry Gordon Selfridge, John Wanamaker, and Marshall Field. That phrase exists in the zeitgeist because they used it, and it was meant literally. Their mindset caught on and that's why the phrase made it through the language barrier and is common in many other culture. _"le client n'a jamais tort"_ (The customer is never wrong) _"der Kunde ist König"_ (The customer is king) and _"okyakusama wa kamisama desu"_ (お客様は神様です The customer is god). This variation you believe to be a part of the original quote is false. There's nothing to be found to back up that claim, it seemingly comes out of nowhere. Meanwhile the original untouched phrase can be found in plenty of places and doesn't involve the "other half" you've mentioned here.
@ther0n1nnamed478 ай бұрын
@@NottherealLucifer I'm not here to argue it's validity, but i personally did not get it from the internet, I got it from a manager over a decade ago who learned it from someone else, so if it was a lie, it wasn't a recent lie, or an internet lie. Dan Allen is one of the confirmed deceased predators. The stalking charge was for his ex-wife and his stepdaughter. Stalking in Japan is wild because there are not a lot of laws protecting women in those circumstances. I remember one article where one stalker used some weird CSI method to track an Idol by using the reflection of her eyes to see what train station she was at. It's INSANE. In Chris' podcast, the daughter revealed what her stepfather had done to her and her mother. Allen is one of the more infamous predators to appear in Riverside. 51 guys in 3 days. 17 a day. I think what makes him so famous is how jovial he was during the interview and while threatening Chris and the camera crew. A lot of guys they caught were repeat offenders with several of them running after meeting Chris. One guy got tackled and received a black eye and broken collar bone but he was truly one of the worst ones. We even got a clip of the sister of one of his victims, detailing what happened. The all-star or Creep of the Riverside Sting was Chuck Harding. He's worse than Michael Gentile. Next is James Rutherford in Ohio where Jeff Stacy was caught. Another teacher predator. What makes him so famous is that he gave a lengthy interview AFTER Chris gave his reveal. The uncut is about an hour long.

He also had pool parties where minors were required to wear revealing bathing suits. But the excuse is that it all had to do with promoting the network. People can draw their own conclusions, but at the end of the day, he has never been charged with or accused of sexual misconduct by any of his employees at the time. As far as I'm aware.

To my understanding the saying is "curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back". I love this phrase so much! I should get it tattooed on me eventually

The stalking in anime conventions is 100% real. I lost count how many times me or my friends were followed by creepy dudes while at a con, that it got to the point where we all had to start carrying pepper spray on us at all times. I remember one creep was going around bothering all the girls at a local con, and staff didn’t do anything about it. A friend literally dove under a booth table cause he was following her around, and the dude just about got down under the table with her.

I'm sad that stalking, harassments and groping where just referred to as minor and common crimes

You NEED to dive into the disgusting world of anime cons. And not just B.O. Lots of predatory activity on younger con-goers. Which sucks because it’s so hype to be with your friends at a con blitzed out of your mind and meeting cool ass people 😢

Yes, especially if he gets Mary's opinion on it as she was a cosplayer herself in the early 2010s ( there are even some videos on their joint channel where shes doing her make-up for a photoshoot) i think it should be a video!

7:27 these crimes are MAJOR. The trail they leave is longer and larger than hitting a government building. There is trauma in minimizing these crimes as not as big.

As a girl, I have definetly been followed multiple times and its so scary! Even when walking my 100lb dog in the afternoon, I have had to run and hide so I could get home without him finding out where I lived. And that wasn't a consistent person obsessing over me. Stalking is very serious.

The " Have your cake and eat it too" comes from Elizabethian times. cake actually referred to the outside part of bread that was burned and not desired.

In an alternate universe, James 'Hambubger' Wiles was the spokesman: "Aint a woman in this world can give me a [blank]-on anymore. I'm passed that stage now." Switch to Hambubger, now in studio, standing next to his footage. "That was me until I found (logo comes up) E.D. Pills Online." Total nightmare fuel.

4:21 the same has happened with the saying 'blood is thicker than water' which people use in the opposite way of how it was originally; the whole saying is "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb". EDIT: 4:56 YES

It is scary how the situation can change so quickly, if this wasn't a show and the young girl said no. If you can see the perceived dangers that can occur when someone decides to take what they want. This happens in real life more than you can ever comprehend, not just to underage but adults as well. To myself for instance, I went on some dates with a man I thought seemed kind, mature, responsible. But one day he decided that he didn't want to listen to me saying "No". 🙃

No, "curiosity killed the cat" comes from "care killed the cat." Nearly every time this kind of thing pops up it's incorrect, people make up second halves of sayings, or discover a slight variation from a hundred years ago, and somehow it gets twisted and everyone thinks that the made up part is the original. The "but it came back" or "but ____ brought it back" part of the phrase came up, at the earliest, in 1905, it is an addition, not the original. The original "care killed the cat" comes from a play back in the end of the sixteenth century. The curiosity part replaced "care" in 1868, in an Irish newspaper. So, whenever you hear one of these "this was actually the original" you have to look deeper than just a few internet articles, because those are now written by people who also won't check to see if what they're saying is true.

I always thought the whole "curiosity killed the cat" was supposed to be saying that it was being curious that was killing the cat for not acting on that curiosity. And the full saying just further confirms my theory that people have twisted it to mean "ignore things that make you curious"
@totallytravicious7 ай бұрын
Obviously I'd say in this situation, he SHOULDN'T have acted on his curiosity... BUT, he's also lying so he wasn't even "curious" to begin with

I was listening to Chris Hansens podcast when this video dropped; irronicaly the episode was about this guys daughter who did an interview, very interesting Edit: in the episode it’s confirmed that he’s dead and the daughter is doing great. Fortunately he didn’t do anything to his children because he got divorced which lead to the stalking brought up in the video

you were spot on with the anime con thing. There was a reason me and my friends are always in a big group. There was one year where we went as 'monster magical girls' (basically monsters from games like Pyramid Head and The Keeper from Evil Within' but in cute maid outfits) and one of my friend's dress had been a bit shorter than she intended. All day there was a creep following her trying to get behind her so he could look up her dress when she walked up the stairs. It was gross.
