In this video, we take a look at a strange and incredible synchronicity in the life of the author Philip K. Dick. And when he wrote a fictional story that somehow came true...
Philip K. Dick is the author of 44 novels and 121 short stories including “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” It became the basis for the movie Blade Runner.
In 1970, he wrote a novel called “Flow my tears, the Policeman said.” Reportedly, it’s the novel he wrote really quickly. The story just flowed onto the pages, as if he was channeling it.
The story describes a 19 year old woman named Kathy. She has a husband named Jack. As the story unfolds, we find out that Kathy is actually working undercover for the police. She also has a secret relationship with the police inspector.
A few months after finishing this novel, Philip would meet a real life woman named Kathy. And just like in his book, she was also 19 years old. She had a boyfriend named Jack. They were about to walk into a restaurant together, when Kathy said: “I can’t go in there.”
“Why not?” Philip asked.
She told him the truth: “I can’t go in there, because I have a relationship with that man… the police inspector.”
Is this all a coincidence? It goes much deeper…
Chapters:
00:00 - A made up story that somehow came true…
01:39 - Part One: Flow my tears, the Policeman said
04:35 - Philip K. Dick’s theory of time
07:41 - Part Two: Carl Jung’s concept of Synchronicity
08:56 - Unus Mundus
11:59 - Numinosity: a key element of synchronicity
13:03 - Plato’s allegory of the cave: the world of illusion

Great video but I'm surprised you didn't elaborate on the fish necklace incident. Apparently a beam of light shone on him from it and he received a download of info that informed him of his son's yet unknown ailment. They took him to the doctor and requested testing for the specific thing, doctor was hesitant cus the test itself could be risky and the son was showing no signs, but eventually did the testing and the info he received was correct and intervention saved his son's life. It's like the punchline to the whole story cus it transfers that internal meaning to real world significance and legitimizes that all-too-intangible bridge of reality from subjective to objective.

Thank you Brion Aiota for your very valuable comment! I will pin it for everyone in the comments. Your point is very valid, and it would've been great to chat with you before I put out this video. There are, unfortunately, always subjective decisions that must be made about what to add and what to cut. In Philip K. Dick's "How to Build a Universe that doesn't fall apart 2 days later," he also describes (as you're likely already aware, but perhaps those reading this comment aren't) even more astonishing synchronicities involving his son: "One day while my son Christopher, who is four, was playing in front of me and his mother, we two adults began discussing Jesus... when Christopher turned towards us for an instant and said: 'I am a fisherman. I fish for fish." He was playing with a metal lantern that someone had given me, that I had never used... and suddenly I realized that the latern was shaped like a fish." Including all of this likely would've added 8 to 10 minutes to this video, and I was concerned that would make it too long. Thanks Brion for watching and taking the time to leave such a wonderful comment. I appreciate you

@@ModernIntuitionist hellyea absolutely! I figured you were aware of it and that maybe this was focused more on the synchs in the hyperstitional context of his work. Bringing these things in is sorta stepping into a whole other realm for which this video provides context. The subject of hyperstition itself is super interesting and barely touched on by anyone esp thru a video essay medium. Maybe you can get into it more with a part 2. Appreciate the appreciation!

Hi! I remember reading about this, but instead of the beam of light, it was k dick, listening to a message from superior beings hidden in the song strawberry fields forever, do you know which one is true? I'm honestly curious not trying to correct anything. :)

@@LuisRodriguez-ol5mw so I just did some searching and found the story you're referencing. I also found a more comprehensive article that gives a third alternate version where he was in a half sleep state one morning and his inner voice told him about it. It goes on to say he's told several versions of the story, so at this point I'm not sure which one is true. I had always heard the one I described but who knows, maybe someone out there has done some cross-referencing with other's accounts of it to parse out which one is true.

I started reading PKD in the early 70's as a teenager, I used to tell my friends that this guy has seen the future, a world where millions of cameras follow everyone, where you can't totally tell what's real or fake any more, with governments and corporations practicing thought control methods on us, a dystopia characterised by a sense of universal alienation, each person isolated in a virtual prison planet. Now we are living in Philip K Dick's world, he has become a modern age prophet.

@@thefleecer3673 I think in the 40s and 50s, after the war, it was the idealists who imagined what was possible, and the fighters who worked for that peace won out. In this era, the 80s and 90s saw cyberpunk lit come to its height, and now that's what Musk, Zuckerberg, and the tech capitalists have copied. Even if it was a parody when it was written, they took it and ran with the baddies side. This is why I believe we need utopian fiction again. Edit: and you are so right. So much bounty, so much greed.

As I grow into awareness I see synchronicities come ever and ever closer. It feels like the closer to death, the faster they come, with the "Ah ha!" moment at the climax of life, death. It becomes clear why Jung said "beware unearned wisdom" as it can drive one mad who has not the faith to withstand the mind.

Could it be as it was taught by Neville Goddard, that the emotions and the act of writing actually revealed a reality tunnel where the writer witnessed all that he resonated with? Synchronicity implies the universe to be a separate phenomena, but according to all esoteric teachings, you are the universe looking back at itself through infinite’s “eyes” ... your thoughts

Thanks for making these great videos. I'm a writer and felt a strong affiliation with the comment of PK Dick that his books sometimes flowed so easily they felt channeled rather than the product of the writers mind. I can attest to having the exact same experience and indeed in my last book, completed before seeing this video, I paid tribute to several authors in the name of my main character. One of those authors was Philip K Dick....

I've been listening to his exegesis for months now and I started experiencing many synchronicities and a lot of unique science fiction ideas come to me. I actually had an idea so complex and meta, about multiple realities and time travel and religions. It took me years to fully develop this idea in my mind. Then a few days ago I find an essay he wrote that lays out his theory of time and space, which is the same exact theory, only he believed it was his reality and his version is so eloquent and detailed. That man was gifted when it comes to science fiction but also cursed cuz he couldn't turn it off.

OK, David here of the Dickheads podcast. This is a well-produced video but viewers should keep a few things in mind here. Phil was a chronic exaggerator. His friend Ray Nelson (who wrote Ganymede Takeover with him. Once said writing a true biography of Phil was nearly impossible because he never told the same story twice Tessa his wife at the time for example said on our podcast (Valis incident panel) that he knew what the fish pendent was he was just making conversation. Many of the details are fictionalized in Valis. The reality often gets confused because after working on the Exegesis for years Phil lost track. I love Phil as a writer, I would just caution folks to understand this part of Philip K. Dick.

As I read Valis, with albeit a former knowledge of Dick’s strange… coincidences, I was daily being jarred by things lining up between my day to day and the last parts of the book I read most recently, such as themes, topics and more specific proper nouns or grammatical niches. It’s hard to explain, and I am certainly of solid mind, yet I was feeling very rocked while reading Valis, and experiencing coincidences compiling atop themselves for seemingly no meaning or reason other than to appear as a cosmic joke if you will. He was my favorite author long before, and now he is my favorite author worthy of getting a tattoo for. Also by happenstance, Waking Life is my favorite movie ever. With no connection to my PKD relationship, in regards to causality

Recently my roommate was sitting with me on the deck behind our apartment block where we'd been recently discussing implications in and of the book of Enoch . At some point some time later my cell phone buzzed me with a " wrong " number . It was a young man called Enoch . My roommate was quick to point the odds were astronomically against this happening . Whereas as at first I'd not been enclined to give the wrong number much attention ...and .. was not sure that these odds were quite astronomical though enormous ...he eventually convinced me to pay more attention to this occurrence . Now I recall quite a few years ago .... I'd read everything I could find by Phillip K. Dick . This video has been a find . Nicely done . ❤

🐬 I actually know several people who channeled the books they wrote. Apparently the idea sparked in them and just flowed out of them effortlessly. One of them is my friend who never wrote before, but after coming out of the great pyramid of Giza, he somehow started writing poetry and novels out of nowhere! I also think my idol JK Rowling channels her stories. Harry Potter was an entire story that just dropped into her head in an instant and she said she felt the characters she write are very real and she would write down their personalities and traits as if they’re real people. Thank you for your phenomenal videos, 10/10 in all areas! 🙏🙌💖

There is a wonderful book called "Writers Dreaming," which has many famous authors discussing how they get themselves into what amounts to an hypnotic state in order to write fiction. They get so immersed within their imagination, that they are allowing their dreaming consciousness to guide the narrative. So they are discovering things about the plot and the characters as they go.

Sometimes I think we "glimpse" our future or past selves experiencing things, especially if they're powerful in emotion and impact. It would go along with the idea that it's all really just one moment, but we perceive it to be proceeding on a linear timeline in our reality. I was walking in Japan with some acquaintances once, and the biggest wave of deja vu hit me, and it felt like all in one moment I knew I had memories in that town, on that very street, with friends from University. I don't know when or who, but someone/something connected with me now did. It's unsettling but so awesome in the true sense of the word. I could see knees buckling for sure!

When David Lynch was making his “surreal” film, Mulholland Drive, I seem to remember that what his imagination had created for the 2D silver screen also manifested in the 3D world that he and the actors were living in. I need to watch the film again to recall the details. He and PKD were both tapping into the boundless creative imagination which is somehow projected from the Eternal. Perhaps these numinous nuances, these synchronicities are points where dimensions not usually perceived become entangled giving us glimpses and reminding us - We’re on a Magical Mystery Tour, a spiritual journey. Thanks for the video and Hey! - On the bus home last night I told someone I was having fish soup for supper. The conversation then led - via the traditionalChristmas dinner in Hungary ,which is fish soup - to the secret Christian symbol of the fish - something I hadn’t thought about for years……….

The song “Flow My Tears” was by the Elizabethan composer John Dowland. I became aware of Dowland when recently I heard on the KZbin channel Rick Beato about Sting and the lute player Edin Karamazov had done recordings of Flow My Tears and other of Dowland’s songs for the greatest classical music record company Deutsche Grammophon. I forget in what context the song is mentioned in PK Dick’s novel, but as I remember someone asks what song was playing, and the policeman said Flow My Tears. Perhaps it is synchronistic that Sting was in the rock group The Police…

I worked on the movie Blade Runner as a lighting technician, at the Bradbury Building in Downtown Los Angeles. I credit Blade Runner with saving the Bradbury, which at the time it was built - 1893 - was considered very futuristic in its design. It is a quadrangle with a very large skylight, where the movie depicts as the place where the genetic toy maker lives. I lived in 1997 at the Grand Central Square Apartments, which is across the street from the Bradbury, and on the roof of the Grand Central is where the final fight scene in Blade Runner takes place. While I lived at the Grand Central, I worked on the movie The Replacement Killers, which seemed to intentionally use the same locations as Blade Runner…

💜🐟💜 Wonderful video! I've experienced many synchronicities in my life! And many of them support the time is an illusion idea. When I was a kid, I fantasized about a specific room...it had dark green and white floral printed wallpaper and slanting eaves with the bed under the slanted eave. Fast forward several decades, when house hunting ...knew I found my new home when the bedroom had dark green and white floral printed wallpaper and slanted eaves with the bed beneath! Have lived here now for many years!

I was pondering "the question" 22 years ago. I answered "Yes". At that moment a powerful energy rose up through the center of my body and exploded out the top of my head like a volcano. I was then in a profound realm of pure Golden Light. The light was emanating from a Source that felt feminine. This is the Goddess. The Light always knew me personally, always loved me intensely, and I always knew She/It. There was no time in this realm. My body in this realm had the outline of my human body but was made of the same Light that was emanating from the Source. I felt the energy as intensely ecstatic like your best ever orgasm multiplied by 1000...and in every cell of my Being. This is called a "kundalini awakening" or a "spiritual awakening". This was an initiation that set me on the path to purgation, purification, and integration (enlightenment or Soul Realization). The multiverse is multi dimensional and also holographic. We are multi dimensional holographic Beings. The Source Light sustains us always. There are much higher levels than what I experienced. Synchronicity is Divine guidance, at least that's my interpretation of it, having experienced it many time.

Excellent video 🐡 today I saw 11:11 and 2:22 on the clock, has been happening to me regularly over the last few years, also see these repeating numbers in other places. Used to be one of these people that thought it was "confirmation bias" but now know it happens to often to be that. Keep up the good work my friend, your videos are high quality and deserve millions of views. Just found your channel today, probably no coincidence either ;)

Those repeating numbers you cite are known as “angel numbers” and are interpreted as coded messages from the other side, like spiritual codes from outside the Matrix.

The books of Stephan King were amongst a group of writers I enjoyed as a teenager, but as an adult they bored me. Also early attempts to make films or series' if his work were dire. Bringing his work to the silver screen though became amazing, including 'Carrie' , 'The Shining', and I believe the greatest film ever made imho 'The Shawshank Redemption'. I tried to reread his work, but his style didn't engage me. It was very old fashioned American and not being from the US didn't engage me. However, there was another reason I stopped reading his stuff. I enjoyed both the book and the 1st film of Carrie as a teen, but myself and family, unaware of the book, became worried when I had powerful teenage tantrums. We noticed that windows would crack, furniture sealed to walls for many years would crash to the ground, and, to this day, many decades on, telephones would stop working. I still have to get away from my phone if furious, decades later. We all know now about the connection between 'poltergiests' and angry teens. I have never believed in ghosts although I am open to many paranormal explanations What stopped me from reading SK as an adult was more than boredun. His protagonists always seem to be injured or in recovery. As I tried to read his stuff, I became involved in car accidents or random accidents that left me with similar injuries to the protagonists. I'm a little superstitious, but the combination of not enjoying his books and these accidents made me permanently stop trying to read them. Life's too short. Sadly I still mess up phone. In addition, when stressed I set off store alarms, and car alarms. It gets tiring having to prove to security I have paid for everything. I also give and get large painful static shocks and always carry cardboard or rubber if grumpy. Same with watches. They just stop when I wear them. Some people just have too much electricity in them. On the positive side I am known for fixing broken electrical stuff just by tinkering with it. I haven't a clue what I'm doing! As long as I'm in a calm mood. I break electrical stuff as easily if I'm angry. NMaybe I'm a cyborg but nobody told me?

This was absolutely insane...I had just finished editing a KZbin video and started uploading it and I decided to put one of your videos on...I was looking in Premiere and I was looking at the list of videos I had used in my video. Right when I looked at the last video it was 1644 and right then you said Philip K Dick wrote 144 novels...both 44 at the same exact time. Then I continued watching and you started talking about his experience with 'living' the novel he had written and I started getting chills because I had JUST written in my journal the day before yesterday and I have been thinking about it off and on the last couple days about how I wrote a book about my life and foretelling the future, and in it I fight AI, and I was thinking how I 'just so happen' to be alive during this time of AI and how I am 'living the life' of my book that I wrote....and then I am watching your video and you're talking about the exact same thing I have been thinking about. I started getting chills and it's another one of the many synchronicities and coincidences that happen in my life, but wow...it was absolutely insane! Thank you for this video, another excellent one!

@@ModernIntuitionist The short version is this: for 3 month i wrote in a blog about an imaginary woman (lover) who would change her appearance and personality every season, but would retain her memory of me. The intriguing part is that in the following 1 year and 7 months i would meet 2 women who fell in love with the main character of the blog and since the story was written in 1st person, one could say that they basically fell in love with me, meaning that the prophetic nuance in the story came true. It has been a baffling experience which showed me yet another piece of the magic hidden in this world.

Thank you. 🐠I really was triggered by your video.. especially about the fish, but in this case, the fish symbol that I encountered in my life was a Korean Christian missionary coming to my island-village trying to convert my people into Christianity. And this event created a bloody conflict with at least 3 people death. But, the end result of this event was that I became more of unbeliever of religions, any religion.. and I became more spiritual.. and your videos really makes more sense; many triggering events in my life are more comprehensible after watching your videos. @@ModernIntuitionist It is annoying indeed and although I usually keep a copy of any comment I publish, that time I foolishly didn't. The Corbett Report talks politics and social engineering, but that synchronicity I had was about a 2006 Ray Kurzweil interview that kept appearing to me for unrelated reasons. The interview covers Kurzweil's transhumanistic ambitions and the insertion of nanotech inside the human body. Regarding synchronicities, and as another or perhaps complementing hypothesis to one I'd mentioned previously on you channel, could having them mean that one synchronizes with the weaving of reality? Are they then all around us and ready to be picked up on? Also, can they be cultivated? Thanks Elson, take care.

synchronicity is a real and meaningful phenomenon and one which I have had a limited though profound experience of. If you are willing to suspend disbelief in rigid laws of perception and allow yourself to follow, what will start as subtle clues, but end up as startlingly odd coincidences, you will be certain as to its validity.

I also appreciated the referencing to the Icthus at the end & his epiphany-like event where the reflected light from which transported him back to ( Roman) oppression. Its down to perspectives? - shadows on the cave wall as valid as political dogma & misaligned beliefs peddled to create alternate realities to further prosaic agendas beyond the ken of the shadow watchers . Just finished listening to the audiobook of "Valis" and I found myself here. In a maybe synchronistic way, I learned of the movie "The Double Life of Veronique" through a Letterboxd review that had pasted the quote from the director: “Or take this girl, for example. At a meeting just outside Paris, a fifteen-year-old girl came up to me and said that she'd been to see [The Double Life of] Véronique. She'd gone once, twice, three times and only wanted to say one thing really - that she realized that there is such a thing as a soul. She hadn't known before, but now she knew that the soul does exist. There's something very beautiful in that. It was worth making Véronique for that girl. It was worth working for a year, sacrificing all that money, energy, time, patience, torturing yourself, killing yourself, taking thousands of decisions, so that one young girl in Paris should realize that there is such a thing as a soul. It's worth it.” That alone had me intrigued enough to look into watching the movie, but I haven't yet as it's only been a couple of days since learning about it. Then I see that you posted a video about the movie specifically on the topic of synchronicities. So I have that video queued up on my tabs as well as The Matrix video because I had just recently rewatched part of it and wanted to see what you thought about it. Lo and behold, I get to the end of this video and whaddya know, it's the next video in your series. Gotta love the gentle hand that guides us. As PKD said in Valis: "[...] He forgot what event had started off his decline into entropy; God mercifully occludes us to the past as well as the future." 🐟
