Many of these ads use A/B testing and other techniques I believe used in statistics to determine which game ads are the most appealing. The reason why game ads are like this because those behind the ads know it will attract people (even if it looks like it really shouldn't).

Last Christmas , brawl stars dev team made a video thanking the community for the love to their game, plus they actually listen to the community too! There is more but i can’t be asked to do it all.. Something that always made me wonder, do ads like these always net a positive income to these companies? I highly doubt they only thrive on children with short attention spans, they have got to also be making these ads for negative attention. Don’t even get me started on the screens that come after the video ads. Those screens are basically a “””video””” that tries to make you click the screen. By showing what looks like gameplay but is actually a dirty trick. That send you to the App Store the second you click it. OR the screens after the ad that just says G E T. And you have to sit and wait for about 5 seconds before you can skip it. Whoever makes these ads are the dirtiest people imaginable.

I remember the first smartphone my buddy got, a Samsung not running on android where the scrolling was inverted and also you had to hold your finger in the direction for it to continuously scroll, there was no momentum when you swiped your finger over the display. He had doodle jump installed on that thing, and it was so much fun to play with how it used the phone's gyro sensors for control. This was 2010 or so, I thought gaming on phones was going to be like this, real innovative and fun. Oh the naivety. Nowadays I barely even install apps anymore and have considered going back to one of those old phones were it not for the browsing convenience of a smartphone.

One of my favourite games, animal crossing pocket camp, is still being updated while the switch game hasn’t go a year and they make you have pop up notifications to remind you to buy one of three of their subscriptions, all giving you in game Currency, one giving you a journal that does nothing, one giving you fortune cookies with items and the last giving you a villager that can do shit for you, if you want to buy in game items ever or keep up with events without having to log in every two hours, not sleep and barely make the final goal and it’s so intentional, as someone who has all three (the government is paying for it via disability funding so idc) it’s the only way to reliably get in game currency and I still can only afford to buy one special item a month with all those currency packs that come with each subscription every month, they also still let you buy even more leaf tickets and have the notifs on for that which you can’t turn off. It’s also worth mentioning that these types of game microtransactions specifically target neurodivergent people, specifically serotonin seeking neurodivergent people, people with addiction issues and disabled people who are unable to keep up with events
