Just claryfying a few points. 1- Midori Matsuda is indeed an animation director in Film Gold but there were around ten. Msayuki Sato was the character designer and chief animation director (for all movies One Piece since Strong World). 2- Toei didn't do the 3d model for Kid's arms. That was done for Studio Voxel did for the One Piece team. 3- This will not be the standard for future productions in the anime industry at all. For having these animation sequences you need the most talented animators and give them time. By the way most of the great animation sequences in this video are from animators that don't work in Toei actually but are freelancers that get called by the animation producers to participate.

The animator who did yesterday the action scene of episode 1001, Shota Shigetsugu, said that he was working for 4 full months just in that sequence that last 1:05 minutes. So imagine how hard and time consuming it is to produce less than a minute and a half of animation like that. Add to that than most animators are incapable of do something like that independently of the conditions, they are just not that good.

as some currently watching one piece and an animation student, one piece generally even before wano had really good animation overall, like especially when it's obvious they "cheaper out on the animation in parts" is usually in smart way to save time. the character animation when it hits prior to wano really hits. one piece had always had strong animation when it counts, but to see it go bonkers and almost over animating simple scenes, is a treat that i am amazed they can keep going for a weekly series

Episodes like 957, 982, 1015, 1017 are instances of what if the anime industry actually relied on actual talented staff and plenty of time. It’s a rare utopia only few studios get to have once in a while. It’s definitely not a studio standard nor it defines the quality of a studio because production is never consistent. That’s why studios like Toei, JC, Cloverworks, MAPPA are still one of the worst animation studios out there with the worst business models resembling sweatshops.

1015 and 1017 being so close together and looking the way they did is what is crazy to me. most anime dont have episodes that look like 1015, the fact one piece is a long running weekly anime and dropped two episodes like that 2 weeks apart is crazy. and the fact we are still getting insane episodes like 1026. crazy stuff. also makes me wonder if after wano the quality will dip cause i get the feeling this standard can only be kept for so many years. Hey, about the copyright strikes, I am not a KZbinr, but I have heard a lot of other professionals in the KZbin reviewing industry say that you just have to push back and fight the strikes. They NEVER take you to court over it. The companies that strike you are always hoping that you back down and just take the videos down. So what I've heard is this: You submit a challenge to the strike, basically saying, no i think it was all fair use. They then submit a statement saying they are standing by their choice and continuing to try to strike you. Then you have to send one more challenge, this puts the ball in their court. The company that issued the strike then has to make a decision: either we take this youtuber with under 50k subscribers to court which costs thousands and thousands of dollars in legal fees (which the company will completely lose if they lose the civil case, and then they have to pay you for your fees usually) or they drop the claim. The company will ALWAYS back down at this stage, because of the risk involved. Unless they are 100% sure they can disprove your fair use. Granted this means you have to be sure that everything you used was fair use. However, reviewers on youtube have a pretty low bar to prove in court. You can go over and watch some videos by Legal Eagle on the subject, he's a lawyer who puts out videos on youtube (not official legal advice, talk to your lawyer). Also, as an early youtuber, definitely get in contact with a lawyer and establish a business to business relationship. Anyways, wanted to throw my 2 cents in. Thanks for the great content!

No problem with the animation. I just hope that they fix the phasing, shorten it, don't mind if the anime takes a long break so that it won't keep up with the manga. There are a lot of pointless episodes that could've just been in one. Hate the translation too, tried reading non official translations in the manga and it seems more deep, meaningful and gives off more feels. Also, I hope they could calculate the height difference more properly. Voice actors are really good and on point but somehow underwhelming. Like when the time Momo shouted something about he's oden's son, it did not feel like he's shouting at all.

I love this! Thank you so much for your commentary! We can never have more support for the animation. Although I agree 100% that the animation has improved INSANELY, there're still cheapened moments where I can really pinpoint. Sometimes the mouth flaps are REALLY ignored, just making them move open and close in the same sequences or frames. And the composition on how the subjects of a frame are arranged, does not give quite the same impact as the manga panels. Lastly, majority of the less important scenes lack fluidness in motion or gesture. I especially notice this most in Luffy's expressions which were once so expressive and exaggerated, are now firm and stiff. The highs of this arc though are freaking top notch that I sometimes cry of happiness. I could still enjoy the show very much if those were the only cons however the pacing is literal pain. Anyway, the scenes you put in this video made me relive my sheer joy when I first watched them. Tysm. Edit: Actually, the composition arrangement most of the time isn't at all bad. Only rare times, from what I remember atleast.

Just watched 1015, every episode is just getting better. Long gone are the strugles for quality for One Piece, once Bleach and Naruto ended, the focus of long running shonen anime was all pointed to One piece as the remaining true weekly OG shonen manga/anime, thus it's popularity grew more and more, no longer can you say "Anime doesn't do justice of the amizing manga", nowadays so much money and work is put into the one piece anime, that it's trully an accurate representation of the great work of Oda, and for the most part it even enhances the original manga material highlighting the action in it. I mean once piece is for sure the best manga ever made, for it's worldbuilding, story, caracters and much more are the best in the business, but the early years of the anime, did not had quite the buget, nor the tech to fully realize the manga's greatness, resulting in Indian series alike stares, prolonged scenes and some time questionnable filler lines. Now adays they are still making 1 episode out of 1 to 1 and a half chapters, however there is much more going on that Oda intentually leaves some fights mostly off screen, giving the anime it's way to shine, rather than putting in random stares or bad dialog that doesn't work. As wano reaches it's climax, we've go so many fights that are barely shown in the manga with 2-3 panels, I really hope they give these some screen time.

At this point if they wanted properly paced episodes the anime would have to go on at least a 6-12 month hiatus. If they only took an extra week it would realistically only go from the half chapter we’re getting an episode now to maybe a full chapter at best.

the animation is much better AT TIMES. However we must still recognize big problems still present in the PACING of the anime. Episodes can still be TOO LONG for nothing or really poor narration with artificial longevity. Some good animations can entertain and distract us from the narrative void of certain episodes. Half of episode 1000 is an example of that. Despite this change of artistic direction (that, as you said, are REALLY GREAT, there are so many sakuga moments that are great to see), the pacing problems are still here. I know the anime should not be a perfect transcription of the manga, it is an adaptation. But still, the content of every episodes is too poor even if visually it is better

Before wano they never animated a full episode properley there were just short scenes with good animation those were also random. Naruto was also weekly just compare its animation by same years for ex see 2009 naruto and 2009 op op was like animation was like early 2000 its animation was always behind its time. Not that i hate op but but i hate toei for doing this until wano

My advice could be real horrible or good but maybe if your thumbnail included something about the animation change. Idk how to explain it but just seeing the thumbnail (even though it shows one piece in the new animation) it doesn’t show what the videos about if that makes sense. The animation will look good for 1 minute an episode during the mandatory luffy vs kaido clip, while the rest will look ass majority of the time. Combine that with the horrendous pacing and you get an episode that ruins would be memorable or funny moments. Yall also be forgetting the animation was good from like ep 200 to 500.

the animation was not good from 200-500. the quality from episode 1-end of whole cake literally almost never changed. besides the final episode of sabaody.

@@cwega2463 This is not true in the slightest. There are hundreds of examples I could give of good animation from 1 to whole cake. What Im referring to is consistency. You get a good cut of animation for a minute and then the rest of the episode looks mediocre, with entirely well animated episodes being few and far between. That being said one piece has definitely gotten more consistent with good animation. The worst of one pieces animation was eps 500-800 roughly.

Until the marineford arc the animation style was good . After the time skip the animation hit a real low , I mean pure garbage with bad pacing and continuous staring. And the Wano arc , oh man oh man Toei really tried in Wano. I hope the animation will be consistent until the end of One piece.

This show already has lost many fans and if they hadnt at least made the animation better ,it would have been destroyed.lets see how much time it will still take them to realise that they still use the same sounds and soundtracks and finally change them.i dropped one piece after i saw odens death and attack to kaido for the 30th time ,or something like that.i dont care if the anime is coming to a conclusion or if it is at its top right now...Im to tired of it ..it should have changed many many many things till now and not just its animation.

What are you on about bro. They’ve added plenty of soundtracks over the years. Shit some of the more frequent ones these days are completely unique to wano itself, and with the new over blown animated scenes that were minor panels in the manga, they’ve had to add SO MANY sound affects just to accommodate for these scenes themselves. The only major problem the anime has right now is having the pacing of a damn snail due to being less than 80 chapters behind the manga. So imma guess you either don’t know what your talking about or your just making up problems because your fed up with the pacing in wano 🤣
