The Church haunted houses are called "Hell Houses" and they are basically about the dangers of sin which leads to Hell. There is a pretty interesting documentary about them.

Ohio resident and I agree. I can't speak about any church run Haunted Houses(never heard of such a thing lol) but my parents' hometown is home to one of the best ones here, Land of Illusion. If they ever wanted to come to Ohio, I would love to give them some recommendations!

I've been subbed since like 2011 and I love all of you guys, but I'm glad Shawn brought up this feeling that making him sad has become a bit. I totally see what he means and I've never really found it amusing. It's disappointing and annoying that he was low key harassed on social media when the Padres lost, kind of proves that this has indeed become a bit. People will insist that they were just trying to be funny and that legitimately upsetting Shawn wasn't their intention but that doesn't really matter when you hear Shawn talk here about the way it made him feel. I don't care about any ball sports, never have in my life, but Shawn's enthusiasm and regular updates on the Padres situation actually made me start paying a bit of attention to baseball and I was kind of bummed when the Padres lost, not just for Shawn but because it's cool and exciting when teams with less resources or a history of bad luck can beat a big, important, successful team. I remember watching the last podcast and being kind of surprised at the curse part, it felt needlessly mean. We all know curses aren't real, obviously. We all know it was meant to poke fun at the absurdity of superstition but it really just came off as being mean to Shawn for laughs. I love you guys to death, but this may just be one of those times where you gotta say sorry to a friend for making them feel bad even though it wasn't your intention. Maybe the Slack message was a bit more insensitive than you realized, it's cool! We all make mistakes, just say sorry lol.

The church haunted houses Garrett mentioned are 100% real, and I know this because I took part in one when I was a teenager (in the short period of time I was playing with the idea of being religious). The one I took part in was in Ventura, down in SoCal. They are super messed up because it's supposed to be like "These are the real horrors of the world that happen because these people don't have [insert religious symbol here] in their hearts!" It was all a scare tactic to get people into their religion.
