The enemies cant actually see you from across the map, when you create "activity" on the map what you think you get are bug breaches and bot drops, but what they dont tell you is that the roaming patrols will start to investigate the area as well. they dont specifically know where you are but they know your general vicinity and last known location, and you can take (some of) them down quietly by meleeing them while prone, as long as they dont screech and no sound was made nobody else will get alerted. Peeling off as soon as they investigate throws them for a loop since now theyre converging on a location that you dont need to be in anymore, pulling forces away from other locations. Additionally if you drop a smoke airstrike, smoke orbital, or smoke grenade on top of your location for long enough (and theyre not i alert mode and just in investigate mode) then they will simply move on. Smoke is incredibly powerful in higher difficulties because the bots aren't that smart, they will just keep shooting at the smoke until a scout strider or a commisar finds you, as they are the only fast moving units they have that prefer to converge on your location, while most others prefer to stay behind or are too slow to catch up. the automatons have a surprisingly very limited field of vision and ive already found myself accidentally re-enacting "all ghillied up" from cod, hiding within the crags of rocks just barely hidden from their line of sight.

There is a patrol that spawns when you land that knows your general vicinity it will patrol towards your location but the patrol itself won’t know you’re there just that their path will go into your direction as if you land on top of a mountain you’ll eventually find a patrol that is actively trying to climb said mountain even though every other patrol goes around

@@athena1491 Oh, that's a nice way to do it, and I could imagine that being pretty practical since they'd presumably get several shots before running out of juice. Which has always been a weakness of regular mines that get depleted fast. Though, I was actually thinking of something far sillier when I said that. Basically little pyramid shaped mines that would constantly shoot out multiple weak lasers in several directions for a given duration. Kinda like the shape tank traps have. Doesn't sound very realistic, but is fun to imagine how crazy it would look. Since I'm here, how about another random idea. Arc mines. Each operating like a shorter ranged single shot Tesla tower, that enemies wouldn't aim to try and destroy. I'm sure people would just love it when someone joins their game, kitted out with four minefield strats and nothing else. xD

On stealth, I’ve found it best used not to sneak into the base, but to enact guerrilla warfare, slipping past patrols and launching quick hit-and-run raids.

This. Scout for a sightline, call in a low-cooldown stratagem and engage just before it lands. Can clear a lot of encounters without offering the luck of counters, and that is for both factions. Bonus points: I believe the Gas Strike removes the ability for the victims to call in reinforcement, and you can backstab most light infantry...

Fun fact: stealth wasn't an intended design tactic. It was a coincidental byproduct of creating the noise system. Also I tend to find enemies don't alert if you don't look at them. I've sprinted closer to patrols but not looked at them and they didn't aggro. It's probably a coincidence but a fun thing to pretend that if I can't see them they can't see me.

@@athena1491 If you play it right, it can give you a little bit of time before they aggro. Personally, I go light armor with the autocannon which allows me to dance around the base for a little bit from a distance, taking shots at enemies from angles they are vulnerable from and snipping the vents of factories. Then I usually throw a 500kg to mop up some and as MrBIbll was saying, fully engage right as it hits. It will give a small window before the enemy arrives which allows you to quickly get in, do what needs to be done, and get out. It’s a very specific strategy but it works well with my play style.

You also forgot my favourite cursed strat. If you bring an HMG turret and a jump pack you can land the HMG turret on top of a tank and then jump onto it to man the turret. I rode a tank for 5 minutes as my teammates and I steered it towards objectives, it was so much fun.

Just read about the bug where the host alone is able to do fire dot damage. I'm assuming this is similar. I generally host for my squad's missions, since my connection is the most stable, and have had consistently good results with Gas.

Just my thoughts on stealth: I LOVE stealth games but most of them are pretty unrealistic. As far as doing complete stealth missions in helldivers without being discovered, I'm not disappointed that you can't fully do it. Realistically, in a base full of killer robots or hive full of bugs, something is going to see or hear you. It honestly frustrates me in games when something should be able to see/hear you but they don't.. and I think Helldivers does a great job. When I'm sprinting and I clearly see a bug patrol and one of them facing my way perks up for a sec when he spots me (rather than them somehow not being able to see me), it helps loads with immersion.

It also helps that it's not all or nothing. You can take out lone guards that spot you before they call out, and even if they do call out the reinforcements won't know where you are if they don't see you after you kill the one who spotted you and will instead start searching the area. And you van withdraw out of line of sight, disengage and try again. It's a very dynamic and flexible stealth compared to many other games where failing stealth results in defeat or turning into a full on combat game with few ways to disengage without killing everyone.

500kg - Orbital Laser - Anti Mat Rifle for bots, Flamethrower for bugs - Mandalorian jump jet backpack for bugs, Shield backpack for bots. Sneak through most of the game, complete almost all side objectives while your random ass team fights for their lives doing God knows what.

When you split the players, the bug and bot spawns don't necessarily spawn on the player whomst triggered it, it goes on a random team mate, so while you experience peace, they might be dealing with their own shit and the holes and drop ships you triggered

Usually they're watching each other. Especially in the clip, you're better off shooting once behind a wall to get them to investigate. As for the gas strike.. ok I guess? Honestly I have no idea why we were getting next to no kills with it. Managed to get at least SOME kills before the balance patch

@@Ricksdetrix Yeah, I was going to say the same as Kbob. Gas seems to be bugged that only the host gets the damage over time effect, making it near harmless for most of the team. Same deal with burn damage, but it's less obvious because the flamer/incendiary breaker/incendiary mines, still deal some direct damage.

Others have explained the gas strike, but it's the DoT bug. Only the NETWORK host gets the DoT. The worst part is the network host is seemingly random, as they aren't always the actual squad host. But I've used it when it was working and it basically makes all breaches free of little guys, killing them on spawn in. It's pretty fantastic when paired with a Rover to clean up anything that might have ran out quickly. Or have you or a squad mate with EMS to bully breaches even harder.

@@RicksdetrixI made a solo post detailing more, but Machine gun is very strong I have found and when used right, is an essential crowd control item in a clutch. New HMG is pretty bad. It is okay if you got a few heavies, but doesnt do anything the MG couldnt do while doing other things worse. Only time I found new HMG to be decent was when trying a higher difficulty vs bots and being hit by lots more medium armored and chainsaw arm berserker dudes.

Have to disagree with the gas strike. Anytime there’s a bug breach (even on helldive) I’ll toss a gas strike right where the smoke/indicator of where the bug breach is and I’ll usually get between 15-30 kills and sometimes 40+ and the most I got was 64. It kills all the smaller bugs as they’re spawning in and before they can get out of the gas (and this is without any EMS) and then I only have to deal with a few larger bugs and any stragglers. Plus the short cooldown means it’s almost always available for the next encounter/breach. I find it useless against the bots but that’s another discussion entirely.

I love it vs the bots when I'm the host. It takes care of the small ones with rocket launchers and even mediums if they stop to shoot you just after they emerge from the gas, fantasic for corners and chokes. And the concealment can help you disengage and protect you from incoming fire.

My three favorite strats all work together. Picking the hottest drop point, “We’re surrounded. That simplifies the problem.” is true. Also chaos is fun. Tank riding. I have now disabled one of the biggest threats, and will give the team a clear shot due to the turret spinning. And the offensive use of non offensive stratagems. Because the EAT has three charges per call in. A close second is running around like it's WW1 with gas strikes, artillery, either a pump shotgun or that bolt action rifle, and flamethrower or machine gun. Actually really effective for dealing with rank and file while your friends deal with anything else. What I really want though is a sword and a proper bolt action rifle. Because "you can turn anything into the somme if you try."

From my experience, the gas is best used to weaken or kill Medium and small enemies that try to push your position making them easy to clean up. This allows you to focus your attention on large targets. I’ve never used it with ems, and I usually get 5 to 20 kills per strike. It’s a defensive strategiem yet most people try to force it into an offensive role then.

Note about the turret strategy, normal mortar is fine on long missions, but Mortar on thin hordes or eliminate bot forces… it’s a friendly fire machine.

Normal mortar is great against bots on the Eradicate (thin hordes) missions, against bots specifically, but it's best when done in bulk. One mortar will wound berserkers and then friendly fire you. But FOUR mortars, will simply remove the first half of the mission for you, without anything ever getting close. I like to do the same thing on regular 40min missions too. Everyone drops four mortars together outside a large base, and just enjoys the show. (Need a full group with voice comms, of course. )

Some notes: - Stealth when approached as a tool, comes in more useful. And you can use loud noises to draw enemies into an area as you go around them. It is incredibly powerful when combined with planning to fight. You also lay prone and melee a lone, smaller enemy to death without alerting others often. The revolver ironically enough is very good for stealth if you use it to kill a small group of bots before they can call in reinforcements. For some reason it's sound radius is rather small. Stealth can also be used in a group to have 3 draw in reinforcements, and 1 other helldiver can take an objective alone. As a combined tactic, it's easily S tier. - Orbital lasers, if we're talking about effectiveness as part of the criteria, should be around C tier even if the rest of the points are E tier for fun/cursed. -380mm will with one, handle a command bunker every time from my experience. Very useful for those missions. - Cursed Eagle Airstrike idea would be staggering four people with them on bugs. Takes care of most bug breaches with barely having to shoot one shot. - "Screw this spot in particular" 500kg spam. Four 500kg on any bile titan or single big target. Plus you get two. - "Watch the world burn" fire spam. Ideal on a planet with fire tornadoes. Flamethrower, breaker incendiary, eagle napalm. Terrible on bots, endless flames for bugs. Fun tier list, give combined stealth a shot sometime it's best when used to set up situations. As a bonus, my favorite weapon combination of gear is usually like this. For bugs Eruptor, machine pistol, impact grenades. Stratagems are shield pack, quasar cannon, 500kg and eagle airstrike. For bots scorcher, grenade pistol, impact grenades. Strtagems are shield pack, AM rifle, 500kg and eagle airstrike.

A 2 man recoilless team on a hard defense mission can be a game changer. 1 RR plus 1 EAT. Gunner runs the RR, the loader has the supply pack and EATs. We can take down 75% of dropships, greatly thinning out bot waves for our defending teammates and turrets to finish off.

Stealth can be done if you go smart about it. Shots do lure in enemies, true, but beyond a certain distance, the bots don't automatically detect you because you fired a shot, they'll just investigate and lay down cover fire (and often call in pre-emptive reinforcements). This does not mean you are detected. You can snipe a bot, move to different location without being seen and the bots will just go in circles, confused where did the shot come from. You can use this to snipe the commissar, disengage from the retaliatory search party and use the fact that they are lured away to get where you need. Also, airstrikes and orbitals don't make a noise.(While being called in. The big fuck off explosions will make something of a ruckus) You can fuck up a big patch of enemies while still being undetected, or, if you stepped into a big pile of doodoo, you can use the stratagems as Get out of jail free cards. Furthermore, you can melee enemies. Meleeing is silent. I have personally launched ICBMs while dodging patrols, transfered critical data directly under the automatons noses all while being stealthy. Just don't try it against Terminids. They will find you and they will swarm you.

I have one for you. Its not cursed but boy is it satisfying. EMS orbital + Man Turrets versus bugs have 2 or three people running the strategems, at least the man turret and you will mow down so many bugs in a heartbeat. It is really fun. Alone, the man turret feels like a mini-Mech suit, its easy to stim in if surrounded by bugs and is great at taking out dangerous targets except for very armored ones. This is why I want Autocanon man turrets or rocket ones for a friend to jump on incase more armored units appear. With more man turret options, a squad of different man turrets can decimate without teamkilling like BOT turrets.

For stealth, different weapons have different sound profiles; energy weapons have very low sound profiles, the counter sniper is oddly quiet, and the revolver is insanely quiet. If you pick off an enemy from far enough away, then enemies won't aggro, but they will usually investigate the enemy's corpse. Melee also has no sound profile, so if you can melee down an enemy before they attack, it won't attract any attention.

My playstyle is "Rat with explosives duct taped on" Crawl or run in unnoticed or with light combat, kaboom, weasel out without a scratch Autocannon, 500kg, Railgun shot for Cannon Turrets, and the regular strafe bombs. Easy way to clear out side missions on Automaton front

Pretty much on-point, a few observations; a) Orbital gas strike is one of the fastest for taking out bug nests/eggs. 2) Might have to re-test All Mechs and Mech Rider when the new mech variants come out. San) Definitely want to see a full stealth/no shooting run. The devs spoke about the stealth system on Operator Dreswski's video, maybe that'll give you some ideas? Delta) If you havent tried changing the fire rate on the MG then I wouldn't write it off just yet.

Immo mission types are the way to go. Missions I would like to see are Operation - Immanent attack inbound - save as many civilians as possible 25 minutes. Set a minimum amount and let the difficulty run wild. (reused civilian map) Operation - Shut down production of ____ elite unit. Warning will be abnormally high numbers of this unit. 1x the amount of that unit per difficulty. So if it is tanks mission expect to fight like 100 tanks in hell diver 9 difficulty. (Use any map just change patrols and drop ship units.) Operation - fire for effect - Stratagems cooldown reduced by 60 percent reinforcements are decreased by 60 percent. (any 40 minute mission type.) Operation - Skynet. There are 2 air factories and 2 primary objective is to kill the 2 AT_AT like things. Operation - Quick and easy - 40 mission needs to be done 25 minutes. Operation - Enemy intelligence - Put those little inspection pads places and ADD LORE that is enemy intelligence. Put like 20 on the map and random place and we have to find like 8 or something. ANY map works Operations -unused/experimental weapon stockpiles - just put 4 unused support weapons at all objectives. Throw in surprise new weapons you want tested as a way for early access and trouble shooting. Operation - scientists/engineers rescue- So in xcom there are scientists and engineer I think it would be fun to just added some text to who we are rescuing. You can leave them as civilians or even give them lab coats. But you can then give an order to save ____ number of scientist for weapons development or something and if we succeed make weapons that need testing from number 7 show up on missions. Operation -Liberty-tea this is a meme but give us Liber-tea samples to collect. Very dumb but I thought it was funny idea my friends talked about it.

warning, lengthy personal opinion - orbital lasers are also good when you messed up and got too much of a horde, also funny disco build, mechs are nice for a backup and can rapidly kill big things when you end up with too many of them (also nice to leave one on extract, plus a bit of air support when you call them in), patrols periodically spawn in and move towards wherever you where when they spawned in, and can be corralled with noisy drop pods. patrols automatically aggro on whatever kills. stealth is skill issue, i can't explain it but i love doing the airbase mission solo in stealth, just gotta double melee the guard and watch for the respawn that'll come from the nearest fabricator. Arc thrower just takes practice, you get a feel for where the arc goes and you can just tell when someone's in friendly fire area and not shoot them, and the blitz is fun because it provides stagger which the arc doesn't get, also better at tracking hunters if your aim sucks like me. flamethrower i think is currently bugged where only host gets burn ticks everyone else only gets direct fire ticks? unsure with what i've heard from there oh, also jetpacks don't make sound as far as enemies are concerned, they only know you're there if they see you (or you shoot/run).

imo stealth where you're truly undetected is kinda impossible in this game. But it's a great tool for having fights start on your terms and keeping them contained to prevent unnecessary bot drops. So it's like, you pick off isolated guards from a safe distance, then you move in closer to the pack, and then get ready to gun them all down in quick succession to stop any call ins.

Shooting dropships is *almost* pointless right now due to a bug. When a dropship explodes the explosion is above the ship, so the ship's model blocks the explosion from damaging the bots inside, and said bots aren't damaged from falling or having the wreckage hit them, but they do get stuck inside the ship until it despawns. So essentially all shooting down dropships does is slow the arrival of their payloads. Also I find that while "true" stealth is effectively impossible, if you split up you can have two or three divers draw aggro by going guns blazing, while the other one or two slip around unnoticed.

I've found that it does work, but its very 50/50 whether it kills the bots that drop. Devastators and Hulks tend to survive and get stuck like you said but the Troopers and Assault Raiders die more often than not.

We had a Rocket Devestator today, that was "trapped" under a downed dropship, unharmed. He was totally capable of firing rockets out through the wreckage of course, whilst we were unable to harm him. We had to drop a whole bunch of strikes on him before finally managing to kill him. Was a real pain in the butt. :v

Haven't finished the video but the gas strike is bugged along with napalm. In solo gas works really well but in multiplayer you have to be the host for both napalm and gas to tick properly. Fire works fine if you're the host in mp but gas is still a toss up sometimes because by god when it works it WORKS

one mech strat you didnt metion was everyone running mechs, but giving them all to one guy. in return, he can carry support weapon strategems for the team. benefits include that you cant call strategems while in a mech, so the pilot only has to call strategems outside fights, and that he gets SO many uses of the mech. also, if you get good at ammo management, you can save strategem slots for other stuff! as for stealth, it can be done but not often. before they added a new layout to the illegal broadcast site, you could consistently stealth up to the terminal by entering through the one choke theyre not watching, crouching to make sure they dont hear you, then just waltz to the terminal and deactivate it as opposed to using explosives. the new layout is more tricky, but with some luck its possible. Ive also managed to stealth the power generator on ICBM missions with mixed results. take out enemies at range to hide sound, in one shot so they dont call you out, and behind cover so others dont see the muzzle flash. do be aware of patrols though. they have an ugly habit of walking right into you if you stand still long enough.

One more synergy on the turrets is to have a bubble shield to protect them. 90 sec cooldown and makes your turrets invincible

The gas strike was able to save me and my team in a defense mission. We were being overrunned by terminids and the gas strike was the only thing slowing their forces. Every gas strike got me 60+ kills
I've absolutely successfully stealthed objectives. Its mostly down to the bot placement though. If a bot is standing right next to a terminal or directly facing it theres no chance.

dont know if anyone said this or not yet, but shooting down every bot drop can be very effective. you must first wait for the units to drop, and then you fire. 80% of the time you will kill whatever is underneath it, even tanks, unsure about hulks but i assume the same. not only is the bot drop a massive body with collision (sometimes), it explodes when it hits the ground so whatever you're meaning to kill should already be on the ground before the bot drop falls

my favourite weapon for riding a mech is plasma punisher. not only do you overcome the PPs weakness of not being useable in CQC, because you're high up on the mech. but you also get a nice high vantage point to lob those orbs of plasma death down onto enemies.

The mech riding reminds me of Lost Planet. In that game you could ride on your friends mechs, not like this but with an actual button you press to latch on to it. It also has a grappling hook you can use to hang on to enemy mechs and shoot at them point blank.

I learned about the effectiveness of the arc thrower proper during the TCS order. It's one of the few crowd-control weapons you can shoot towards the silos without instantly stalling them

Synergies I've Come to know >380mm barrage And Bubble Shield. Watch as your enemies fall around you while your perfectly 'safe' as strays are unlikely to hit you twice in a row. But The shield does run out prior to the barrage ending so... Hope your lucky >Castle Synergy(for bots): Bubble shield then your choice of turrets. Or just oops all turrets. >3 man reload Auto cannon team. 1 auto cannon and 1 resupply backpack. 3 men with a semingly endless supply of Auto cannon shots. >EAT Firing squad for heavies.

One strat I like to do, especially on bunker and search and destroy missions is to do yhe unthinkable and deploy right on-top of an enemy base. You'll immediately destroy fabricators and take out an objective within the first few minutes. It cam be costly, but if done right, it's the most badass entrance ever.

From what I've heard, any DoT effect (Gas, Fire) is bugged on multiplayer games. So the dream of turning planets into a chemical warfare testing ground is dead till they fix it. But then apparently Flamethrowers are also bugged in singleplayer but work in multiplayer.

Mate, you're sleeping on the Blitzer. It's a great compliment to the Arc, with the Arc charging before firing while the Blitzer recharges -after- firing. A Blitzer shot can buy you the time you need to charge your Arc and mop up a patrol. If a fast enemy darts in, the Blitzer can be used on reaction to stagger them. With most other weapons, from the flamethrower to the Breaker, you'll need to dip out of combat to reload the thing. Even the lasers need time to cook down. The Blitzer can fire non-stop at a steady pace for an entire mission, just like the Arc. You're paying for this all with a low rate of fire, short range, middling damage and a high risk of friendly fire. It's still a go-to for me against bugs.

Idk, I use airstrikes to clear outposts and then pop whatever spawners are still standing with grenades, and use the orbital Laser either to assist with large outposts or to cover me if I get into a heavy firefight. Plus my destroyer is literally called the Hammer of Dawn. It would be blasphemy not to use it.

Just something I thought you should know about stealth I’ve found that punching weaker enemies to death generally prevents others from noticing. So for the bot at 6:05 maybe crawling around punching it could’ve gone somewhere, just would’ve been extremely scuffed.

"Stealth" in HD2 should follow the model: Silence > Violence > Silence. Sneak up, hit super hard, leave and lose the trialing forces. Definitely a much more viable idea for bots, bugs not so much.

Orbital gas strike is very under rated. Your comments just proves it. It's got a physical rocjet that destroys structures, including tanks on direct hits. Dot damage for little enemies and cc for big ones. With a one minute cooldown it comes back faster than the orbital precision strike.

Gas strikes are bugged due to the DOT issue. If you're not the host, DOT damage isn't applied. This applies to Napalm and flamethrowers as well but they still sort of work because they have initial hit damage.

Neat video. Two points I’d argue with you: the sickle does just fine at clearing crowds with a little accuracy and trigger discipline. And the arc shotgun I’ve found to be quite handy for bug missions, I don’t like letting the bots in that close if I can help it

My "cursed" loadout that I use on literally every mission and always makes the randoms just stop and stare is as follows: Primary: Plasma Shotgun (the one from cold steel that fires grenades). Secondary: Senator revolver. Grenade: Fragmentation. Stratagems: Laser Cannon, Scythe guard dog drone, 380mm barrage and USUALLY a Gatling sentry but sometimes I bring anti personal mines for flavor. Why? Because it's funny. No matter what I do or who I drop with I always, somehow, have the most kills at the end of the mission. Between near infinite plasma grenades for one-hitting mooks and stunlockling devastators/berserkers and the laser cannon for head popping hulks and tanks in seconds or engaging at range, I am become death, destroyer of Democracy's enemies. The Senator is a really good emergency holdout if something gets too close for grenades but really it's only ever used to "commissar" any dissident divers, saving the Ministry of Truth a trip. The 380mm and sentry make a great buffer for a resupply break while sending a base into chaos or for defending the extraction point (seriously y'all are sleeping on the 380 as a defensive weapon). And of course the frag grenades are just for popping holes, fabricators and the occasional point of interest that needs to be blown open. Is this build super optimal? No. Not even a little bit. But it does have an answer to nearly everything even if it's not the "best" one. Plus team kills (both accidental and purposeful) are 100 time funnier with these "gag" weapons. Also, the break action shotgun is just a blast to use.

Arc Thrower strat is now even more viable with pushback being added at the expense of rate of fire. It's now less effective against tanks but more effective against fodder. And the distance nerf is not very noticeable. You just can't "snipe" with it anymore.

damage over time effects are bugged, so that's why gas strike 'felt like it did nothing most of the time' - because it literally does, you're correct, it actually does nothing most of the time, only the network host (the person with the best internet regardless of who is squad leader and can kick or send the team back to the ship or decide where they fight

I'm sure others have said it here, but just to be sure, Gas and Fire damage is currently bugged. I have seen Gas and fire strikes get over 30 kills when they work, clearing all but the tankiest enemies, and even those if they are in them long enough. The issues is that they usually only work for the host. The host is not the lobby creator, they are the one that game deems worthy, usually based on computer specs and internet speed. Try them out in a solo game to see how they are supposed to work.
