Oh this was SO juicy!! I’m so glad you did this video! I got sucked into the cult shortly, but after rotting several plants I went back to my regular DIY chunky mix or regular semi-hydro. I always felt so confused on his group pages. Another thing I’d noticed was how often he would tell his “followers” to give up on a plant, when there was clearly available nodes that could be propped as wet sticks. He doesn’t seem to have much or any respect for the amount of money a hobby grower will spend on a plant. Simply suggesting to toss it a buy another is not very empathetic. I rarely use coco peat in anything because it is like mud! That was a great description. Man, I learn so much from you. Please keep making content! 🙌

I am soooo glad you made this video, I was in his "group" years ago and called out his glaring lack of actual knowledge and how he was copying well known existing methods and applying them incorrectly, and too clueless to tell how or why . I put him on the spot and he couldn't tell what is PPFD, coco dryback percentage, or the life cycle of the microbes in the products he hawks . I was the one who told him silica was like an "insurance policy", how he was clueless about what he was talking about, saying variegated plants need "low nitrogen" nutrients , yet recommends his friends hydro shop bottle of High nitrogen. What pisses me off most was the "my way or the highway" view, and I called out how he had killed many plants based on his own poor recommendations, and then blamed the person he sold a rotten plant to, or who followed his "directions". He couldn't understand any other methods and couldn't understand that saying "water every day" is bad advice. YES, coco can even be watered multiple times a day BUT totally depends on dryback, plant size, heat and humidity. He would sit there and overwater like crazy, wasting so much water/nutes and drowning already soggy roots in a small container with a plant barely rooted. You water the Plant, not the Pot, but this fool couldn't understand that . A large healthy plant in a small pot thats tearing through water and nutrients in a high heat low humidity situation can be watered a lot more than a small plant in a big pot in a cooler high humidity situation, yet he just gave a one size fits all "method" because he doesn't actually know why anything works or didn't, which is how failed upward into his growing venture in the first place. I got blocked and kicked out of his group along with some female mods. F that guy.

PMM is an over the top, canna semi hydro growing method, but I did get some take a ways. I believe has helped my plant journey. I’m an advocate of adding silica to my water, especially for my variegated plants. I think it helps maintaining the white. I also use micros when I transplant. I’m not 100% sure of efficacy, as I’ve gotten better, and so has my success. I “feel” it helps. Lastly, I lightly fertilize every watering. Again PMM is over the top with the nutrients, but .25 strength of a nice 3-1-2 has my jungle flourishing. Cult is precisely what I’d call his forum. Literally every answer is “follow the method” or “you screwed up the method”. 😂. Not open to ANY talk of how you do things in your local environment. There is only ONE way….till he changes it.
@prettyingreen8 ай бұрын
Totally. But watering with 1/4 strength 3-1-2 is again, ancient methods borrowed from ag industry! Tons of useful information, but calling it your own, and selling a $300 kit for it, and shaming those who do otherwise is my problem

Silica needs to be used solo. It causes nutrient lockout when mixed with other nutrients just fyi
@prettyingreen8 ай бұрын
@@marilynjay9117 Hmmm interesting! Is that because of the high potassium levels. What if you ph the water after? What is causing the nutrient lockout -- usually that comes from a ph issue
@marilynjay91178 ай бұрын
@@prettyingreen excessive use of silica and use of silica with other products causes lockout due to the salts. Silica use naturally raises the ph of soil which is part of of the issue leading to nutrient lockout and root rot. Silica does increase nutrient uptake but too much of a good thing can also be a bad thing. Ph test soil and water to reduce risks with use of silica.

Thanks for making this video. I stumbled into PMM and after much success with my aroids, was a paying subscriber (mostly because if I'm doing something and it's working, I feel like that has value and want to pay it back) but didn't realize that this is potentially a huge grift. I looked up Professor Monstera here on KZbin because something has always felt very off. Tbh, I think I recall him bringing up his bipolar disorder and since he recently asked all Facebook subscribers to unsubscribe, I was more concerned about his mental state than anything. I ended up in a very strange IG convo with him awhile back after just saying "hey thanks, it's working for me" and got a lot of extra correspondence that was pretty odd considering the distance of the relationship. It was strange, knowing that he's apparently so busy. Then I see these weird sites pop up incrementally that he's asking us to subscribe to, because reasons...which he somehow has the time to either suss out and create communities in, or the means to pay others to do that. I don't get how he's apparently so hard up for money and claiming to be doing this at a loss but also is able to ask us to unsubscribe? Frankly first my mental health bells started ringing, but this makes sense too. Anyway, tangent lol, thank you again, this really shines a light on the concerns I have been mulling over.

I love 4:10 part but honestly Monstera deliciosa can grow in any medium, it is quite baffling to me how can anyone have problems with it and I mean any mutatant or not version of deliciosa, I get the argument like 'Oh its an aroid it must have the oxygen in the roots, you must use chunky mix' I get it but deliciosas are so easy to grow they do well even in backyard soil, in peat based soil with no perlite, no other ingredients, it all comes down to watering since you can't drown them in aroid mix thats why it is so recommended but realistically you can grow it in anything, if someone is bad with watering then yikes they killed one of the easiest plants, thats a bummer for sure. To his defense, I learned most of what I know about plants from growing cannabis, there's a lot of good info out there if you're willing to look for it which, clearly, he didn't do. It's funny, there's somewhat of a plant cult in my area of the world too, people doing semi-hydro with cypress mulch as a substrate. It seems to be harmless as far as I can tell but there are still quite a few cult-ish elements to their Facebook group. It's all happening in french though, so you guys in the US have probably never heard of it. I haven't had any success with their method, so I'm doing chunky aroid mix with a little bit of added cypress mulch (on a recommendation from the Missouri Botanical Garden, not from those weirdos doing semi-hydro with it) and Pon for those plants I just can't get the hang of.

I'll say I use silica with my plants and trees, they've grown so much healthier and larger with less pests and issues since using silica. However with airoids I always only use pon or chunky mix or tree fern fiber and it always works basically. This dudes a weirdo

Ya Silica makes sense to use. I use it with my aroids too. But that, a good fert, and a chunky mix I'd put against any overpriced method
@djhiggins44318 ай бұрын
@prettyingreen I've had great results with pon and with tree fern fiber. But being completely honest a chunky mix is cheaper and results are negligible.

I love how you do these shady deep dives and journalistic type videos. The only mycorrhizal I've seen work is found in Oh Happy Plants soil. I know it's working because the white fuzz. The other stuff is probably dead.

The only cult I am joining is the leca cult. But only if it's led by Nora the Leca Queen of course.

Oooo I did run across that story of asking his fans to buy him a cell phone? Was that it? 🗣️

He always had a series of unfortunate events. He couldn't pay the bills, his electricity was out, he had migraines, his car broke down, it went on and on. There was a mod named Cristobal that probably has all the tea if you can find him.

I guess maybe he isn’t. I havnt heard his methods praised in aroid groups in a few years.

i used to follow him when i saw the product he suggested was far too expensive than a normal product and he is charging his followers too, I stopped following. Didnot make sense to me like people now do air layer to root the albos why so much of complicated methods, it just felt something off. Thank you for making this video, i am happy i didn't purchase anything he suggested.

I have so many thoughts about this and none of them are appropriate for the public comments section 😂😂😂 (but srsly media/propaganda training needs to be a thing in this country!). anyway- thanks for casting a light into another dark corner of the plant world! 🫡💪🥳
