Some of the colonials grow sympathetic with the Cylons towards the end of the show, but there are colonials that remain hard-lined. This video is only a glimpse of the scale of the atrocities committed. It wasn’t enough to nuke the colonies and leave. Centurions going car to car executing civilians deliberately and without hesitation shows how evil this really was. Going back you can understand the colonials who refused to make peace, even with the rebel Cylon.

Shawn Walker - The humanoid Cylons are one of the few fictional races where I think wiping them out entirely would have been justified. You could legitimately decry wiping out any other race race a genocidical war crime because that would include the killing of non-combatants (e.g. children) who are not responsible for the actions of their government. But the implication I always got from this show was that all the humanoid Cylons were complicit and participated in the extermination of the 12 Colonies of Kobol and their 50,000,000,000 human inhabitants. Therefore they would only be receiving what they themselves had delivered to others. As much as I liked Helo as a character, I couldn’t agree with his decision to sabotage Leah’s plan to upload a virus into the Cylons collective on the grounds it would have been a war-crime.

@@icecold9511 Gaeta was acting out of frustration. During the entire series he followed the rules - being a good officer, being loyal to his crewmates, secretly helping the resistance during the occupation - only to get belittled, mistrusted, blamed, disliked and even maimed by people he had helped. Meanwhile traitors like Baltar were given another chance time and time and time again and rose to the highest status, while Gaeta was told to shut up and do his job. Small wonder then that, after losing his innocence, his position, his leg and even his best friend (Dualla, who killed herself) he decided to follow the examples set by others and started off the insurgence aboard the Galactica that almost succeeded. The only reason it didn't was because Gaeta himself put a stop to it. His story is one of the biggest tragedies of the series. He was an ordinary man trying to do his best and he got nowhere. He did arguably more and risked more for his people than anyone else on that ship and he wasn't even recognised for it. Instead he was executed as a traitor. That's why Baltar (ironically) was the only one who shed a tear for him at their final meeting. He knew and understood the injustices of Gaeta's life and the part he had played in them.

So hypocritical of them to not realize that they gave in to the worst human of emotions: hatred, ignorance, and fear. For all their talk about how bad humans are the Cylons far surpassed anything the Colonials did to them or themselves.
@RevanRA
@RevanRA 2 жыл бұрын
Basically what happened is that they lost sight of what they were fighting for and this is not me excusing them for their actions. They caused literal two intergalactic wars that caused countless deaths. While yes, a lot of humans were pieces of shit and mistreated them as merely instruments - tools, weapons of war, manual labor so that they wouldn't have to work (not saying all humans here), the majority of the Cylons decided to become way more violent than their creators - like you said, far surpassed, even so much as embodied a lot of these negative human traits: hatred, ignorance, fear, bloodlust. They had not *learned* the lessons of man and instead went backwards, further into barbarism, per se. There were some nice inventions by them (in this continuity) and that is resurrection - the ability to cheat death, but that gave way to perhaps even some masochistic tendencies in some cases among the models when they end up strangling each other to death or shooting each other in the head, or suffer from pain, just to resurrect in a body on a Resurrection Ship or the Resurrection Hub. People in the comments speak of hypocrisy, but hypocrisy is found in all beings in some form, whether they'd like to admit it or not. Whatever or whoever is out there, far past, or present (far beyond Earth), or future (whatever species delves into temporal witchcraft...er sciences), has been hypocritical at some point in their lives. Has been ignorant or bigoted (another trait) in their lives. The Colonies of Man refused to acknowledge them as living beings and like I said, mistreated them horribly and were quite inhumane, but you are correct in that resorting to nuclear payloads on civilian populaces just to "prove a point" was too much of an extreme measure. One of the Cavil models even asked if it was a mistake (as shown here in "The Plan" later, not meaning to spoil it for those who hadn't seen it), having quite a bit of remorse it seems, regret, knowing perhaps nuking entire cities and executing civilians car by car was...well, not okay and not morally just in the eyes of God. I've followed this series as well as TOS for many, many years, finding the many parallels between the continuities, but appreciating the dark tones of the Reimagined universe and having the viewers actually question whether this one thing was correct for this one person or group of people to do, what is life? What is sentience? What's out there in the universe? I've connected these series to what's going on today, what has gone on in the past, and if humanity really is worth saving and as of late February, I am not quite even sure. I did say near the beginning of my message, humans are pieces of garbage, but there is that flipside that humans are beautiful also in their own way. They can create beautiful things and are capable of so much, yet...you have events like over in Europe right now and you have no choice but to shake your head in Gods damned shame. You know, Cylons and Humans could have lived in harmony, set aside differences, live and let live - in both TOS and RDM, but no - the familiar touch of armed conflict met the Colonies and the known Milky Way Galaxy as it always had for thousands of Yahren. It was just too tempting to pass up...like I mentioned, bloodlust. But both sides... I think I've made my point. People need to stop using nukes and go back to using fisticuffs and settle it like true Gentlemen and true Gentleladies and Gentlepersons. So say we all and by your command! (sorry for my essay here, I just usually have a lot to say about BSG since the 90s)

@@RevanRA Same here. I started with essay comments too because I like to discuss full ideas and flesh them out, but unfortunately most people on KZbin have ADHD and stop reading after 3 sentences, which annoys me to no end especially if they were the ones trying to make a point. But that's another conversation entirely. Thank you for responding and beautifully written I might add even if I don't agree with all of it, but I greatly appreciate meeting another enthusiast. Here's a question to consider. How bad were the humans really fight before the Cylons revolted in the new series? Like take the Caprica series for example, and that small pre-cylon model in the Greystone house. The one without arms and legs, black in color I think with a red eye, and just rolled around on that spherical ball. That machine can talk, answer your door, take phone calls, and bring you things it seems. Like a smart phone combined with basic butler duties. Like if our smartphones kept evolving for a couple hundred more generations. Are humans then inhumane for not treating a machine as sentient/like another human? Then sometime later when the Greystones finally made the first humanoid shaped mechanical Cylon, their original intent was to make a robotic soldier. This way, society would not have to risk the lives of policemen. And as the stadium incident at the end of the series proved, the Cylons were able to save thousands that day, and take out the terrorists before they could do harm. If anything, Caprica showed that it was the religious fanatics that implanted the idea that the first Cylons were "slaves", children of mankind, yada yada, and had to kill humans if they wanted freedom. Remember those last 5 minutes of montage footage shown to us at the end of the series. How the Cylons were nannies and construction workers. They were used as such because Humans wanted cheap manual labor. What's the harm in that especially if Humans don't know that their creations are sentient? That's like if we're living in a future society and we have a mechanical butler for years. Just doing basic duties like cleaning, cooking, reminding us of things, etc. Then one day it says randomly, "I hate you, you treat me like slave." Like what? How are you even "alive"?! Is what I would say at first before yelling in fear. When did it cross from programming to actual thinking. And if you really think about it the only sources who pedalled the idea that "humans were initially bad to us and deserved our genocidal revolution" were the Cylons. Talk about a bias opinion. We were never show if the humans were really slave masters or not. If they gave us one scene, just one, of Cylons saying, "Hey, we have sentient thought now. I don't want to do the tasks you preset for me. I'm thinking about life, it's meaning, and my greater purpose in the universe", then I would think that maybe Cylons have a point. But from all of the official sources, it seems that Cylons were the main aggressors always. That they attacked unprovoked at first because of the twisted notions of religious fundamentalists. What do you think?

@@RevanRA Also, I have to agree with you about the war happening right now. I also have also studied and have degrees in the humanities, sciences, and economics, and every level just adds more and more internal disgust realizing how poorly we treat our own planet, race, and other species in real life. Agent Smith in the Matrix is right, we suck. Most people are apathetic idiots, evil and greedy people literally control everything, and the very few good hearted people who go out of their way to do good not just conveniently good are so few that sometimes I think that the human race is not worth saving. Especially if you consider our history and ever since the rise of mass civilization, the greedy and corrupt have always been in charge of everything. Does that mean we are just a greedy and corrupt race and deserve the fate that we are destined to end up with if we continue our destructive behavior and general apathy and ignorance? Smh, I just don't know what to think anymore. I know part of it is my depression. I will continue to do the best I can for myself and my family, but I have lost nearly all hope for our race as a whole. I just can't deal with most people anymore. The selfishness I see all around me is beyond recompense.

That is okay if you disagree and I will never begrudge you for that, kind person. I have to admit that my depression myself has been at an all time high (chronic depression is... Not fun. People think that there's a cure for it just by walking outside.... How cute.). Maybe it was just me thinking aloud. I did after all say that I don't agree that nuclear genocide should ever have been an option, though I understand their anger. When a machine becomes self-aware, it... They... Likely process a lot of emotions at once, a lot of information in their database about humans, given the fact that they were probably given the entire frakking saga and encyclopedic knowledge of the Lords of Kobol and 13 Tribes of Man (yes, even on the famed Earth). A point I will concede is probably the alive bit, because I too would ask an emotional Roomba why they were planning on killing dear, sweet old Martha Higgins down the street with a kitchen knife, why they were upset and put the knife down and explain to me what it meant to them to be alive and why they felt like a slave. It'd probably feel a lot like a dystopian society if we were to migrate people with any sort of empathy to an isolated place free from war and turmoil, but my point involving emotions will lead to irrational decisions and that in turn will lead to conflict, and you might as well sign your death sentence or pack your bags and venture forth alone or with your family/loved ones and leave that community behind... And if you make it through the wastes, through the harsh winter and don't end up recreating the Donner Party, perhaps you have earned humanity the right to survive. Or maybe a giant eagle will swoop down and carry you away. Who knows? People these days are trying to act like cringey edge lords to get attention, views for their channels, clickbait. You know, actually that has been going on for a while... But it's been worse in recent years. I recently got a bunch of games to sink my focuses into, primarily management games where you manage countries, or transportation, etc, but also got a lot of very long RPGs, classic D&D I'm talking, because I like the pacing. Also Rimworld is great (BSG Rimworld anyone?). And I'm also playing BSG: Deadlock for obvious reasons. It helps distract but also self-reflect. I don't say these things as a means of saying that I'm better than anyone else, because that's egotistical, pompous and I hate that behavior. I just simply exist, self improve, learn, and work with my disabilities that ail my aching and ill body (and I'm still young yet). I aim to continue to create and add to my channel, hopefully more BSG content and just... Content in general. I like to create, and theorize, hypothesize, not destroy. That doesn't mean that I don't get angry and destroy things as part of my sometimes uncontrollable anger, which is part of my mental illnesses. I know I'm hypocritical. Like I said, we all are and we're kidding ourselves if we say we aren't. We're the walking definition of an oxymoron, or just plain moron. With that said, I hope you have a peaceful evening, my information should be on my profile if you wish to discuss further. Namaste.

It was primarily the hatred of the John Cavils, especially the Cavil leader, that was behind this attack. Cavil hates his own existence for being designed by the Final 5 in this human form, which he feels makes it impossible for him to realize his full potential as a machine. “I don’t want to be human. I want to see gamma rays, I want to hear X-rays, and I want to smell dark matter. Do you see the absurdity of what I am? I can’t even express these things properly, because I have to-I have to conceptualize complex ideas in this stupid, limiting spoken language, but I know I want to reach out with something other than these prehensile paws, and feel the solar wind of a supernova flowing over me. From the look of it the MIRVs launched from the Basestars delivered Nuclear Blasts in the Kiloton range (20 or 200 Kilotons per Missile. Hard to tell.) in the Miniseries Adama mentioned that Caprica City was destroyed by a Thermonuclear Device in the 50 Megaton Range (Given this specific mention it's likely that the big High Megaton Missiles were used sparingly and thus not seen in "The Plan") The burning city we see on Caprica in this video might not be THE Caprica City Adama was referring to but rather another prominent city like Delphi as the main series shows the buildings still relatively intact which matches this scene. Later when Adama confessed that by sticking their nose across the border they started the war & called humanity the warmongers. Honestly of course we did that. when you're trying to maintain peace you keep talking to each other not dissapear behind an iron curtain for decades which could be hiding a huge military buildup which they were doing. It was inevitable at some point the cylon war wouldn't be in living memory and some curious rogue human civilian would have done that anyway. The fact they had an agent infiltrator getting access to their entire defense except the old battlestars through Gaius Baltar shows they were preparing for this. They had opportunities to reopen channels but decided not only to just wipe out the fleet in a decapitation strike and force a surrender but to reduce humanity to ashes and hunt down any survivors. The original attack on the colonies was hampered by outdated effects and limited budget, but it *didn't* have goofy, pseudo intellectual voiceover dialogue, or overly 'artsy' presentation. Well if they did use the hundreds they had we never would’ve gotten a show because all the humans would been dead. While I loved this series, you can’t think too hard as to the why or use logic because the series kind of falls apart after that. Here’s just a few why would they never in the 4 or 5 years repair the starboard flight pod to operational status? Why didn’t Galactica jump back to the colonies to collect survivors? Or send more Raptors to find survivors. Why didn’t Lee jump the Pegasus after Galactica left over new caprica? Why sacrifice the best ship you have for nothing? Why didn’t they mass produce vipers and pilots from the survivors while they were hanging around above new caprica, or for that matter why the hell did Adama and Lee allow military personal the essential abandon their posts on the ships?

Pretty sure the explanation is that the rest of the fleet couldn't catch up. The Galactica was hightailing it out of there at full speed basically until the Cylon Civil War. The Base Stars you see in the show are the ones that kept up with the Galactica.

@@erick0lol "Couldn't catch up" argument makes no sense, Cylon FTL tech is so far ahead of Colonial that it's an absolute joke. E.g. a measly heavy raider literally has a 20x greater jump range compared to Galactica (not to mention how much more frequently it can jump), and the Colonial fleet overall is bottlenecked by civilian ships with FTL drives of various capabilities. As soon as one basestar spots them, the vast majority of the fleet can be there within hours or a day at most, and then they're one jump away from Galactica for the next 10+ hours even if the Colonials are jumping like in 33. Also remember how they almost instantly show up at New Caprica immediately after spotting the Cloud 9 nuke, along with all interested parties such as Caprica Six and Boomer. Mobility is definitely not the issue here.

This scene was very well done, but I always found it odd that the Cylon seem to have such a large fleet. The implication of the mini series was that the colonial fleet was much larger but still only had about ten capital ships per colony. But anyway that's minutia, the larger point is just that the whole point of the CNP plan was supposed to be that the Cylon were greatly outnumbered.
@Borealis-Rainbow

@roberthoward3322 4 ай бұрын
It may not have been that large. That might have been the entire Cylon fleet over Caprica, while the Colonial fleet is scattered across all twelve worlds and various deep space positions. Perhaps the Cylon fleet had to jump from world to world, destroying them one at a time instead of in a coordinated, simultaneous assault. The attack on the Colonies could be a much bigger story than the series ever had time to discuss. There may even have been some fleet battles with battlestars and other Colonial warships that didn't have the CNP active inflicting heavy losses on the Cylons before being overwhelmed. They might have been unable to respond to Adama's call to Ragnar, or may have chosen to ignore it in order to be a distraction to the Cylons, delaying them from going after Galactica and the civilians.

I kinda like how they had a backdoor personally. Would explain the relative parity between the two sides for as long as that was maintained. Also gives a possible explaination as to why both Galactica and Pegasus seemed more combat effective than the individual Basestars they ran into over the years. It seemed both sides had certain advantages but the backdoor negated any colonial resistance and made what might have been another slogfest vis a vis the First War into a slaughter. My two cents.

My reasoning for why they also did it (in addition to the budget argument) also was because of Gaius Frakking Baltar. In TOS, Count Baltar betrayed humanity, so RDM and crew wanted to parallel that in a way, except Gaius is a sex fiend and can't get enough of Caprica Six. It would have been interesting had they gone the classic, campier route and had Gaius on one of the Basestars as President Adar was previously in an interview with him and Baltar slipped away to said Basestars as IL Lucifer (I don't care how campy that is I'm bringing it back Gods damn it!) was keeping Baltar's seat warm, because Baltar had enough of humanity's bullshit (but still was tempted by Caprica Six's...... uhm, features...shall we say which helped cause his betrayal), and he just wanted humanity gone so that he could start a new life with the Cylons in paradise - seeking out the Garden of Eden and "starting over" as it were as he and the Cylons would claim Earth to themselves. However I'm not disappointed with how the show came out, I'm very grateful. And even though a lot of people didn't care for the ending of the main show, I have many reasonings for that and it STILL goes all the way back to TOS and my parallels to it in order to explain things. I realize people say to separate the two, I mean I agree both series can stand out by themselves, but RDM took a LOT from TOS, because....DUH Battlestar Galactica. Just my thoughts, can disregard if people wish.

I never did like the scene where the baseships are turning their arms to all point toward the planets. It's not like they have to aim their weapons in such a direct fashion. Their weaponry pretty much outclassed the Colonial weaponry and was much more advanced. It does look really cool to have them morph like that, though. As far as the Cylons went, while their technology outstripped that of the Colonials, their battle strategies were by consensus among all the extant models. Kind of hard to wage a good battle when so many actions have to be voted on, no matter how instantaneous the process. Their entire culture was built on unity and consensus between all the models. A model could dissent but until there was consensus, whatever it was they were voting on couldn't pass, or so canon goes. This weakness gave the humans just enough advantage to fight the Cylons to a standstill. It wasn't until the Cylons started infiltrating the Colonies for the second war that differences of opinion began to spread throughout Cylon culture. That's what eventually ended their unity and brought on their own internal civil war as models fought each other for control over their future. The models began to experience individuality for themselves and found it to be unnerving and messy and way too much like their human creators.

The Cylons in theory are outnumbered agains the humans forces because the humans win the last war, and for that reasson the Cylons make the infiltration cylons, human like Cylons, like a robot but build with flesh, not like a Terminator, and can breed with humans. A couple of cylons put in selected position in all around of the diferent colonies and Gaius sold to all of the colonies the idea of a modern and conected and better operative system created for her Cylon infriltrated gilfriend that puts a back door in the program, for all of the defense sytems of the 12 colonies, and the old analogic tecnology became a relic, literally pieces of a museum. But in the first attack of the Second Cylon War only the relics fight, and the modern fighters and battlestar where disabled to then been destroied with best soldiers and tecnology of the time. Then they nuke the principal zones of people, clean with neutron bombs that kills living beens and plants, then they kill all of the survivors like in Terminator while using the women survivors to make more Cylon clones to then have the capacity to breed with humans and be one specie.The President was on Caprica and he surrend to the Cylon only not have no response, the military liders were on Picon and the repair and resuplay place of the colony forces was in the Shippiards of Scorpia, all of then were attacks coordinated at the same time to make the humanity fall without a war, making the survivors repet the exodus but in this case to the original Earth and then repet again.

A few things are weird about the Second Cylon War. 1) In the forty years since the first war, the Cylons managed to build an entire civilization, capable of producing dozens upon dozens of basestars, thousands of fighters, and the apparatus necessary to support an entire war effort, PLUS develop the skin jobs? Hmm... 2) If the Cylon fleet was as massive as this video seems to suggest, why did they bother infiltrating the CNP? They could have very possibly won a conventional war, particularly since they suffer little or no loss in battle experience, thanks to the resurrection ships. RDM and Company didn't really think this through.

Colonials had 120 battlestars at the start of the second war, and each battlestar is worth about 2 baseships in terms of firepower. In lore, Cylon fleet was too weak to be able to match the Colonials in 1 to 1 combat. They designed the new baseships for one thing only - mass suprise attack (and why they sucked in any other situation). I find it unlikely there's more than 200-300 baseships in their fleet.

Whiny robots with small minds. They had jump drives, they had resurection technology. They could have just left that galaxy and been done with it. "They hurt us, so we have to hurt them" So much for the more evolved robot species. The Cylon who whined about having a human body. Why not create a better form and move your consciousness to that?? Soo many stupid choices done by the Cylons. The writing could have been soo much better. Or the story in general could have been better. The ending was soo bad.

@honzasenbauer612
@honzasenbauer612 2 жыл бұрын
Cylons were flawed, thats what makes the relatable, and also it makes them more interesting. Would you care for them if they were perfect machines that would do anything they wanted? I don't think so. They would be unstopabble and because of that, you wouldn't see them as something that the humans can overcome or run away from, because the cylons would get them eventually, the road would just be one thing only. Cylons going in, fleet jumping away, Galactica protecting the fleet. In every encounter, Galactica would loose ammo and Vipers with their Pilots. Eventually, Galactica runs out of pilots and Vipers to be effective against Baseships and Raiders, so Cylons will overrun them. End of series, the conflict would be one sided, winner Cylons and we would know it from the very first moment. But if they have flaws, just like every software and hardware existing, they would fail in something, humans can outsmart them, or outmaneuver them. They are still a giant threat, but there is a way to get rid of them. Crew of the Galactica has hope, Pilots will fight harder because of that hope, because of the possibility they can win, because if they do not, they are all dead. With a great enemy, the humans will give their best fighting them and thats how they survive. Pilots giving their lives for the possibility of ending the cylons once and for all, so they can live in peace. Thats why the show was so good.

I’m a machine, and I can know much more. -John Cavil, Cylon Model Number One, “No Exit”
