An inside look with David Tamulevich at the “Appalachian Harmony” marble run from Dave’s Appalachian Swirls, produced on May 31st. 2021.
This is one of the only West Virginia Swirl machines still active and producing collectable marbles in the region. We will take a look at the machine in action and walk through the marble examples from this one day run.The marbles measure approximately 3/4” In diameter and many contain different variations of aventurine and Lutz.
Dave’s Appalachian Swirls ( aka D.A.S.) is owned and operated by glass mater Dave McCollough, in Pennsboro, West Virginia.
The artisans for the run were :
Dave McCullough
Richard McKnight
David McCullough
Jim Storesburg
Paul Simmons
A special thank you to Linda Simmons, Dave McCollough, David Tamulavich and all of the investors for making this terrific run a reality.

Thank you Old School ! West Virginia is probably responsible for 90% of the American made marbles. I’m glad you enjoy the videos !

I have seen all your videos on marbles i guess but these are maybe the nicest marbles. Those lutz ones are amazing! That man is a real craftsman. Great info and great to see a machine working. As far as i know we have no marble-makers here in Europe anymore. Would be cool to have a machine here.

Yes the DAS and Jabo Contract run marbles are custom! Hopefully someone will catch the marble making bug in Europe one day soon . There are only a few factories left here in the United States. Marble King , D.A.S. and New London Glassworks.

I would love to see marbles made using colored bottle glass like brown bottle swirls, green wine bottle swirls and cobalt blue bottle swirls

@@stephenbahrmarbles I think it would be cool if you threw some volcanic obsidian glass into the tank and let it mix with clear glass and make volcano glass marbles

Thanks for creating this awesome video to share our fun marble hobby with the world. Let's try to do more of these in the future! Imagine if we could have a nicely edited video such as this for every single DAS run...lots of work, but worth it.

Now you gotta do a Sammys mountain marbles. I have no idea how to tell them apart, other than I know I bought some from a certain run between Sammys and Dave’s. Might as well do a Jabo video too; who just went out of business last year; as I’m sure you know.

Hi Doug , there are usually several runs done per year with private investors who helped put in the money for the tank and machine several years ago. It’s not really available to the general public.

Could you do a video on JABO? I'm very interested in a specific kind of marble Jabo and DAS may have made but need to know more about Jabo to maybe get an idea specifically how to track it down
@stephenbahrmarbles
@stephenbahrmarbles Ай бұрын
Raiu yes I’ve filmed a Jabo Classics video, but need to edit it. Good luck with the identification! Many of the Jabo / D.A.S. Contract run marbles are nearly impossible to tell apart because there was so much variation within the run.

I'm so curious on how much it even costs to start making marbles. I imagine the machines certainly aren't cheap
@stephenbahrmarbles
@stephenbahrmarbles Ай бұрын
You’re right Raiu , the gas costs alone to heat the glass is a major issue.

I'm so lost I've been trying to tell the difference ever since I found a bag of marbles up in the attic of the house I got, the owners passed away and so did their only child who was in his sixties..they were in a marble bag ..I'm still trying to learn..some have a hole knocked in them, some have a clamp looking mark all different types I'm guessing lol I'll keep watching to learn at least you show examples

REPOSTED from ebay marble seller R.I.P. Dave McCullough, who's passing last week, Oct. 13th, 2024, ends another chapter in marble history, whom Dave was key in many. From Champion Agate, to JABO, Inc., to Sammy's Mountain Marbles, to Dave's Appalachian Swirls, Dave played a hands-on role in the making of Millions of marbles for decades, as well as inspiring and helping others in the contemporary marble fields. Many other lives were greatly affected and influenced by his creations, as well.
