I had a 5.7 with Hemi tick at 180,000 miles. Swapped it out (many of the exhaust-manifold bolts were broken), and changed exhaust to shorty headers. Required a slight extender to fit to one side of exhaust pipe, but sounds awesome, and new engine gets 16 MPG instead of 13.
@TheQman69 Жыл бұрын
It's quieter most likely because one (or both) of your cast iron exhaust manifolds had a leak. They're prone to warping which causes the bolts to snap when they warp too much. You were probably getting some noise through the side of the manifolds before. Same if you noticed some ticking on a cold start up.

@@DAPerform glad to hear it! I’m helping a friend attempt this on his 2014 limited. Air struts getting in the way are my only concern.

Will these headers work on my 2014 ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi
@DAPerform Жыл бұрын
They should
@honor4thoseb4714 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it doesn’t seem like the sound changed much. You still running the stock exhaust with it?
@DAPerform4 жыл бұрын
Just a carven bolt in muffler, it’s definitely a deeper note when you get on it or when it’s a cold start
@johnguzman57873 жыл бұрын
@@DAPerform I’m actually running a carven competitor directly muffler replace, how do you think it’ll sound if I get these headers because I have been looking at them on American trucks.com, let me know what you think. Thank you
@DAPerform3 жыл бұрын
@@johnguzman5787 might be a tiny bit louder but should sound the same, the competitor and progressive are very similar

The shorties wont make it louder, but deeper. Like he said when you get on it. They made my truck quicker off the mark
@johnguzman57873 жыл бұрын
@@johnnyutahhh4563 good, that’s also what I was looking to improve on the low end torque at least for now until I install the comp cams nsr cam

Any problems with the stock bbk bolts that you used ? I did the same today took about 9 hrs , 2 bolts busted flush to the block lol . That dip stick is a pain in the ass still not just right . Would like to know of any issues or ? 2017 ram 1500 bighorn .
@DAPerform3 жыл бұрын
Bbk bolts I used worked fine, I didn’t take off the dip stick but I did bend it a little to clear the header

Was there a noticeable weight difference between the stock cast iron and headers?
@DAPerform2 жыл бұрын
Maybe 5lbs difference. The stock manifolds are pretty compact

Do you have to tune it once you install shorty headers? 🤔

No tuning required

I ordered the Kooks 304 stainless steel shorty headers what's your opinion on Kooks?
@DAPerform3 жыл бұрын
Haven’t personally had any kooks headers but I’ve heard good and bad things from every major brand, my old 09 ram had arh headers and they fit perfectly but were also $1400 Just to give you a perspective in the latest video we posted the g8 got eBay headers and they fit better than the name brand ones, most products are made by 3-5 companies and then just rebranded and sold again

Sweet video ! Huge help. I'm debating the bbk headers or getting my Stock manifolds milled flat and getting better bolts...Any issues with burning any wires or hoses ? How have the headers held up to this point ?

All good no issues with anything getting too hot. The ceramic coated BBK headers are the go to

I don’t see why not since the factory cats will still be in place, best to check with emissions first
