You didn't really say anything SPECIFIC. Just like some of the "scientists". They always claim what it WILL be like in the future, IF this or that happen, and what it COULD mean for our planet. And immediately liberal "news" get hold of it and claim it as fact, already happening. Panic sets in and the sky is falling. WHERE is the "global warming". And IF there is any WHY it's bad?

Nando Sori I do agree with you, and I will cede that my phrasing was ill-conceived, as it was more of a sartorial attempt to dismiss the intentions of the Orange Buffoon. Referring to the past as some sort of ideal fails to recognise the struggles of the disenfranchised to achieve equality. The past was only really great for a certain few. The true aim should be to make America better for all people, to establish the opportunity for success for all people - and that means moving forward, not backwards. So, in short, thank you for calling me out on my poor phrasing.

I remember when this took place, I was in continental Europe at the time, somewhere in southern France, for work and studies. And i recall that it was all over french news for a couple of days, as they really just could not believe how willfully ignorant these government officials were when it came to climate change and global warming. People outside of the U.S. were just astonished... I remember when the host played clips from this same event on national t.v., and the main guests; some minister from the french conservative LREM party, and a climate activist from green EELV party, actually both laughed because they truely thought that it was satire! The host then tried to explain, and the conservative still wasn't having it. He started defending the American conservative movement, by comparing it to the French equivalent, and referencing original conservative principles etc... But then the other guest caught on and said "-Oh, but the American conservatives are different, their movement is full of religious extremists who embrace 17th century superstitions and reject science... what we're seeing is really happening over there, it's quite unbelievable isn't it? In the 21st century, in the world's leading super power! " The conservative minister and the t.v. host end up agreeing with the member of the green party that America was in the process of losing all credibility in the eyes of the world, and that due to a growing overt distain for critical thinking, poor education, and rampant conspiratorial obscurantism, the U.S.A. was no longer in a position to be taken seriously on positions such as climate change, energy development, or progress in the public sector. At the time I remember thinking "That's a bit harsh!" And telling myself how it's probably just a phase that American politics we're going through... that eventually people would get a grip, and cooler heads would prevail, and America would end up leading the way into the new era of renewable energy and responsible production... How completely and utterly, very, very WRONG was I !?!?! 😂 😂 😂 😧 Barely a decade later, and the U.S.A is a global laughing stock, whilst in the grips of a violent proto-fascist movement, with a ridiculous orange authoritarian wanabe dictator at the helm of the nation, and who defines "Truth" as "whatever makes him feel good about himself at any given moment in time".......😨

I recall hanging out with grad students in the environmental science department in college who were asked bs questions like this during their research. While preparing for their thesis defense, they told me how they were given bs questions such as "is climate really the cause for the increase in storms in this area over the past 20 years?" (Paraphrased of course) . Frustrating as it may have seemed, we were certain that the questions were really meant to prepare them for life as a climate scientist. I hope they're doing well.

To give them credit, they are somewhat clever as they managed to find a few arguments against climate change despite the overwhelming evidence that states otherwise. And maybe we should have a limit on donation money as money from corporations seem to colour these politicians' viewpoint.

Poorly. They dress themselves poorly
@NathanWubs9 жыл бұрын
Emil Harvey No, they did not find anything. They just rehashes old arguments.That we debunked even in the early 50ties. They are like creationist, but then towards climate change. The last part is impossible. All your politicians are bought. All of them have big corporations backing them. Which is why the system is screwed. The system should be as followed. If you are back in anyway by a business from medium to large you are not allowed to run for any kind of office. How they then spread the word. Make rules that candidates will get an equal amount of time on television to say what they want, and that is it. Nothing else no backing what so ever. but hey making election, and other things fair. Yeah not going to happen. Businesses have to much invested in keeping the poor, poor, and the rich , rich.

I have this weird feeling that Stewart wasn't acting or trying to be funny when he lost it trying to explain the ice-making-the-water-overflow thing. Now I know that might be obvious, but I've just spent the last hour and half watching climate change deniers spew bullshit on their KZbin channels. Maybe I ought to give KZbin a break... At least that part of KZbin.
@1stsampan9 жыл бұрын
Get a fucking life, will you?!!! There are no climate change deniers anywhere. Climate is changing for millions of years and everyone knows. And (almost) everyone knows ocean level fluctuates some 400 feet, possibly slightly more as some ancient corals on dry land indicates. Right now it's pretty much stand still. It may still go little higher IF the temperatures reach the same levels as in Holocene Maximum 5000 years ago (I wish). But eventually whole Caribbean will be solid land once again with next Ice Age. And Ice Ages last more that 80% of the time, we are just lucky to live in the Interglacial period. That's the nature of things. And no any Kyoto Rain Dance will change that.
@diablo00739 жыл бұрын
"And Ice Ages last more that 80% of the time". What time? Solar time? UTC? Unix time? GMT? Daylight savings time? What time? Sure, ignore the research. Who cares? The time for action is behind us. There's no point arguing about who's right and who isn't. We had a window of opportunity and we lost it. Out of curiosity, what makes you so sure that you're right and the overwhelming majority of the scientific are completely wrong about this? I mean if it were even 60% for and 40% against, I'd've understood your skepticism, but that's hardly the case. So.... Just curious, what research have you come across that proves such a vast majority wrong? And I know I'm beating my head against a giant wall of dipshit here, but those time-scales you're talking about and the time-scales we have proof of are orders of magnitude apart. So... Yeah, that's me.
@Binocularify9 жыл бұрын
Edward Dongres It's the damn RATE of current temperature change Edward. THE RATE. Geologists know full well the sea levels have gone up in the past. It's extremely insulting to read your comments insinuating that geologists/climatologists are too dumb to realize that the globe has warmed and cooled cyclicly and we should just assume it's the same thing now. It'd be like lecturing an engineer about different types load bearing walls. Seriously.
@1stsampan9 жыл бұрын
Binocularify 1) If it's the RATE then we are heading for new ice age. 2) You don't have to be geologist. to know if the water's rising. Fishermen or others living by the sea would know better. I'm sure Dutch would notice. And IF the water's rising why would they spent millions to rebuild New Orleans which is UNDER the sea level as it is and was? :) 3) No one says anyone is dumb. Those who do already lost the debate. I'm sure you realized that.
@Binocularify9 жыл бұрын
Edward Dongres In reply to 1) where are you getting your information that temperatures are falling at any rate whatsoever? 2) geologists have a lot of logical ways to determine past CO2 concentrations of our atmosphere, a lot more than fisherman do. They rebuilt new Orleans because they are being really really ignorant and not facing the obvious problem with much intelligence 3) I realize this and there is a difference between dumb and ill-informed and ignorant.

I don't understand why we are talking about disproving or proving climate change. Is it good to conserve limited resources? Yes. Is it bad that kids are suffering from asthma and other complications from pollution? Yes. Is it more comfortable to live in a city with lots of pollution vs. less? Yes. Do we have a public health problem with getting enough excessive? WTF, Why are we arguing about this shit before we do something that improves our health and is more conservative in nature?
@allblacksfan289 жыл бұрын
+Sarah El Because in order for people to do something, they need to be bought over by it. Then, they need to vote it, thus exercising their agreement of the issue at hand. That's discourse. Yes, it's cumbersome but there's no way around it. We live in a democratic society whereby everything has to be voted and agreed upon. Also, climate change which is tied to pollution, inherently and adversely affects us health wise.

Then watch the idiots try to disprove scientific facts. I'm sure it would draw more attention and maybe get rid of some of the corruption in the government.
@ZhangtheGreat9 жыл бұрын
+TrueZero88 It's not going to work. Those who don't believe in climate change won't.
