I love how Trevor just smoothly stops privileged people on their tracks when they romanticize poverty

Wow, well said! ❤ And I would add, you can feel quite a gap of depth between the two. Trevor is much more insightful and has some insights to share, he's not just a showman.

well tribal warfare isn't desolating south Africa now is it? it's the fact the majority of the wealth is not owned by the average south African citizen. This can be said with most African countries I wish tribal warfare was the actual only problem.

That way you could at the same time hurt my feelings with the truth and maybe motivate me to get back to sports and off YT. Have a good day

@rekscoper8 жыл бұрын
it's more of like when someone has an idea of something but then someone corrects it
@korexican18 жыл бұрын
Yup. Never make assumptions about people. Just assume you know nothing 😂 srsly, everytime you talk to someone, suspend your opinion, everything you've heard or read, until after the exchange & you can reevaluate your opinion & experiences. If you do have personal experiences relevant to the topic, listen, share, then listen again. Hopefully the other person will be keeping an open mind as well & both will have something new & enlightening to take away from the discussion.
@Brainman2348 жыл бұрын
not really as i said i really like ellen but she is the one making assumptions and everything saying that she had an "idea" is nothing more than covering up her false statements and thats why its so funny she was so absolutley distressed by the fact that 90% of the things she said were wrong and i find that funny nothing more nothing less have a good day :D
@AhoiMina8 жыл бұрын
I laughed about that too. I had this experience the other day, we talked to a patient with psoriasis and since the lecture was basically about people with chronic diseases having depressions, the doctor tried to talk him into being sad and he was just like... Nah, not that bad, bad things happen, that's the way it is, I'm totally fine and she got so stressed

Same here. I lived in a refugee camp in my teenage years (in a hut in a desert with a 100 degree ferenheit weather, no electricity, full of snakes and scorpions) and now i've been living in America for the past 8 years, and strangely enough, my happiest years were when i was living in that harsh desert. Maybe it's because i was young and life was so simple that i have fond memories of those days but i find it strange because i didn't have any material posession then, now i have a job, car, some money, and yet still living in the past. Life is really absurd.

It's was sadly cliché of her trying to bring the "poor African child "
@AmayaRue23607 жыл бұрын
myfav0s2012 Cliché non the less.lt's making excuses like this that makes it go unnoticed for people to continue talking like this to Africans. For your own information,that's the typical question many an African has to answer should they decide to stand out in one way or the other outside the definition of poverty the sad "fly on a hungry dirty child TV" adverts peddled by businesses that call themselves Charity organizations .lts so codependent really.We get that in universities,in any careers that set us apart from the media cliché of Africa and that has to be challenged. The African continent is the second largest continent in the world.lt has been in existence long enough for people to stop justifying greeting Africans with poverty stories. A talk show host has a greater responsiblity to her audience. If Americans had to deal with being judged by their history with slavery , treatment of native Americans and how it must be hard living with that in their national conscience they wouldn't be so dismissive to African clichés
@purplelobster1007 жыл бұрын
I love how he's honest about not struggling. A lot of people want to struggle just to have a story to tell and seem more interesting but he's totally honest.
@LEBO1LEBOGANGSELEMEL8 жыл бұрын
I like how you handled that Trevor. Every time the world thinks about South Africa they want to bring up "adversity" and poverty. It's important that people who get to be on an "international stage" ESP if they are South African, that they present the fact that there is way more to South Africa than "hardship". Sure benefactors of the Apartheid regime in SA are way richer than the victims of it (on average by about 85%), but this not what makes South Africa.
@ettik50678 жыл бұрын
I love how Ellen was determined to get a sob story out of Noah, but he insisted on making light of his context through humour. I think this demonstrates the differences between American and South African comedy, as well as the kind of people both nations produce. Also, I think it was pretty funny how Ellen desperately worked in a reference to herself being a comedian, when she's more accurately described as a television host -- something which Trevor Noah probably noticed, yet was to polite to comment on.
@thisisme31614 жыл бұрын

Yeah lol. They prolly had taps though. He's from one of the privileged provinces of SA and my mom and dad (and thus me) are from one of the poorer ones and during Apartheid, when they were young (they're in their mid 50s now), they at least had 1 tap per street. SA is apparently one of the richest (or well of, rather) countries in Africa. Even during Apartheid things were ayt. So yah.. just my two cents there lol.

You guys are saying things as though South Africans don't make it anywhere in the world. Look, a lot of South Africans are famous worldwide and have been even more successful than Trevor Noah. Don't hate on me because I myself am a South African. No offense but it's not like America's the best country and all, and you know what, for him it really made no difference which country he was in or went to, cause he's still internationally famous. He's not making South Africa proud, he's making himself proud. America doesn't have all the opportunities in the world
