tnx captain darrell and captain bob. Your discussion was filled with great analysis for us land lubbers.I worked at Baltimore Steel at Sparrows Point in the 70's and beyond. I wrote Fortran software to have a DEC computer operate a plate mill. The steel plates were shipped to Bath Iron Works in Maine to build ships and submarines ? The project was called TCR which is temperature controlled rolling to add hardness as rolled without a seperate tempering process. I heard several comments they had electrical problem at the dock which affected refrigerator boxes.

Oh yeah...that's the classic line from this entire video! You bring some great information to the table. "Where the people fear the government, you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people, you have liberty", has been attributed to Thomas Jefferson but seems to have been the work of one John Basil Barnhill, much later. With that said, this current administration has done nothing but instigate concern by what they have done in the past 3 years. Like you Captain Darrell, I question it. As an independent, and a veteran, what I have seen take place since the 2020 election fiasco isn't based on the Constitution we swore "to support and defend". FYI Dali is a right hand fixed pitch propellor. Main fuel is heavy fuel oil ( which is stored in the shops double Botton tanks, heated to be able to pump to a settling tank, then heated further for viscosity , put through a centrifugal purifier and filters, then into a daily service tank for more settling before bring pumped to injectors) if that fuel was contaminated they would not have got it restarted. Generators (except shaft generator) only run on diesel fuel which goes through a similar filter system like your catamarans main engines. Also when the lights came back on it was definitely the emergency generator circuit as the side lights came back on and not the forecastle flood light, also international ships have to be SOLAS compliant ( which means the emergency generator kicks on in 30-45 seconds and on that circuit a steering system must also be connected ( so if fuel issue - they would not come back on as the generators are feed from the same diesel oil daily tank, via their filter system- emergency generator has it own seperate fuel tank). Also none of the satellite connected systems are able to control the ship in manual steering mode(while in auto steering mode the equipment Is effectively controlled by GPS satellite data which the USA controls and data transmitted and received between equipment is coded to a maritime standard . Also the engine room management system (including engine control system) are isolated system, so can’t see them being hacked because they are generally below water level in a giant 3 inch thick steel hull with so many frequencies from machinery interfering with signals Wifi based linkages is useless( hence why it is always cable plug in) and the electrical system are all fitted with surge protection/fuses and trips ( which are what hackers target in electrical systems apparently)- cyber hacking is unrealistic . You make some good points on ship handling… this is just a terrible accident!!11 With the causative chain issues being the ship blackout , the port procedures, the bridge protection, and pilots orders … just to name a few.
@harpman67666 ай бұрын

I run and maintain diesel generators as a trade. If we take away other plausible explanations like the fuel situation, terrorism, etc but look strictly at the engineering of the power production of the vessel that could very well be the culprit. I'm not going to dive too far but digital control circuits are more convenient but your older solid state relays and control circuits are more reliable. With the ship being built in 2015 I think that may be a crucial point in the discussion where industry is relying singularly on digital equipment with practically no redundancy. I don't work on marine systems but some of the software and such carries over to my work. These systems are "air gapped" meaning the operator starting/stopping and closing/opening things onto the electrical buss is on an isolated computer network. I doubt it was a cyber attack, I think it had more to do with poor maintenance exacerbated by computer control.

I’ve been waiting for this video to come and I can’t agree more with what you all have to say about it. I work in Curtis bay literally right down the street from the key bridge. we used to be able to see it from the shop. I used to work and sail as an engineer on the army tug boats in Baltimore (they since gotten rid of them) anyway, I’m not buying anything they say. There is no way that skipper didn’t know how that boat was going to handle sending it full astern. And now they are try to say dirty fuel? I’m not buying it. Unless the engine crew didn’t do hourly checks on everything. Hard to say. And doesn’t the emergency generator have its own day tank? The dirty fuel scenario raises so many questions. When ever we would come thru the harbor we had sea and anchor detail which meant all the crew is at their stations at the ready, for this exact reason. Do these big freight ships not do the same thing? If they don’t, I imagine they’ll start now.

Elapsed time from the order to drop anchor to the collision was two minutes and twenty nine seconds. That would not have been enough time to drop the anchor, run out a few hundred feet of chain and then secure the brake on the anchor winch. That means that the anchor never even dragged on the bottom and so had no effect whatsoever. The black smoke could have been from putting the engine into full reverse or it could have been from putting the engine into full forward. The ship left the channel and went into shallow water with a mud bottom. Getting to the bridge and still having enough momentum to topple the bridge would have needed that full forward power. But it was just an accident caused by complete ineptitude of a captain and an experienced pilot. And I've got a bridge to sell you.

He is right , Moral depravity of America , The spokeswoman of the enquiry says that they are looking at the failure of the circuit breakers , Off course cicuit breaks will malfunction when there is excess electrical load, for that it would be wise to enquire of the number of reefer containers the ship was carrying that takes a lot of load, But the problem was not the failure of engines but the action taken by the Pilots/Officals when faced with an emergency situation, trying to stop the ship like giving astern thrust coupled with dropping the anchor, instead of navigating the ship under the bridge using the 8 knots momentum , changing the focus from the contracted safe navigation to saving the bridge, only to end up crashing it ,

Wasn't bad fuel. We all know 😢 sadly this world is off its rocker. This happened just 2hrs after the P. Diddy story released. Just like the Epstein island list

Nice!!!! I think the flags the vessel had is an indicator that South Koreas laws might not be as stringent as we have here? I don’t know how that works, if they can pass over there, but not here? Meaning if the vessel ports from Korea, they’ll send it. Yet a vessel that ports here going over there is to adhere to our regulations? Or is it all based internationally, since the vessel pretty much goes everywhere? I’m not schooled on anything such as that, and I figure you two fellows would know more about it than us folks who are armchair quarterbacking the situation. Thanks for this HMM!

But also being a vessel that isn’t very old having propulsion flags throw up at it this soon? Sorta makes one wonder. I DO know, however, things got passed on the Great Lakes for years, until after the Fitz went down. Then regulations as far as fathometers, survival suits, and a few others came to pass afterward. What’s a shame in all of it is that safety becomes paramount AFTER a tragedy.

You ask really good questions. Wish I had some answers for you...possibly in time. And yes, changes only seem to come after the tragedy...excellent point! Thanks for watching...and for your support. HMM

I'd like to know why they couldn't drop the anchors in time to at least slow the ship down? Are these vessels so automated that it can't be done? Is it routine or not to have crew on the bow, talking to the pilothouse, while exiting the harbor, and available to manually drop the anchors in case of loss of steering? These foreign flagged ships, registered in Monrovia, seem to operate by their own set of rules.

If you zoom in and watch the upper structure of the bridge above the ship and then again dead center in the bridge. It appears there is a small detonation in both locations…

I live in a town in southern NJ and can see the 1st bridge on the Delaware river, the Delaware Memorial Bridge. It is owned and operated by the Delaware River and Bay/Port Authority. The past few years the DRBA/DRPA, on every single bridge they own and operate, have been investing a majority of the money they collect from toll in "infrastructure" upgrades. The Delaware Memorial, the Commodore Barry, the Walt Whitman, the Ben Franklin, and the Betsy Ross have all started to pour money into "dolphins" and the huge sand and rock beaches around tower supports and abutments because if something like that happened to the Delaware Memorial, all the ports up the river past Philadelphia are cut off. I agree with you all with the whole "we will cover 100% of a new bridge" is INSANE. Why in the hell should all of us taxpayers be on the hook? Is it because it's an election year and trying to be the hero for poll numbers? I will never understand. God rest the souls of the construction workers who never made it home to their family's that tragic night. Thank you, fine gentleman, for your wisdom. Have a great weekend!

The ship travels all that distance and doesn’t have to purchase any diesel from local Maryland dealers? Should be a mandatory requirement to buy some fuel. Common courtesy

I'm quite curious about that TBH. In case of planes, they want to carry as little fuel as possible because the fuel you don't use is the fuel you waste more fuel moving around for no reason. I don't see it any different in shipping, why would anyone want to spend fuel to haul fuel when you can refuel at your destination? Was the fuel in Baltimore unsuitable? Did they not trust it? Or do they have some sort of weird contract with the oil companies that they get a discount if they only used their brand of fuel?

Love the content, thank You HMM, and Thank You Capt Darrell - respect. There were 4 ships that hit concrete one in Soo Ontario, another in the US and another in China. If this is electronic hacking, do the tugs have older technology that cant be hacked. NASA has dozens of older cars from the 70s that have no electronics. Lately it seems that global supply chains are being disrupted. Omnipotency seems to be at play.

Good question...never thought about hacking into a tug, but good point. Seems to me there was also a tug, with barges, that smashed into a bridge around this same time here on an inland river in the States. Thanks for watching...HMM
