Quick Note. The Stag actually belongs to the Mackenzie Clan, who brought it to the Dalmore brand when they took over in the late 1800's. It's adorned the bottles since then, but it hasn't been as dominant as it is now.

I agree so much with it being a Christmas whisky. I first tried this whisky on Christmas Day and I thought that was maybe why I associate it with Christmas, but it really does have so many festive tastes and smells. Honestly my favourite whisky I’ve ever tried. All the best from Scotland 🏴

Thanks for the review of the 12 yr old. Have not tried it yet. Tried some some 15 year old at a bar about a year ago .. absolutely incredible. Now the back story. About 4 years ago, I bought a Christmas closeout, a gift box of Dalmore 15 yr old with two stag head glasses for US 52 dollars and the clerk said the price wasn't a mistake as they needed to make room for more merchandise. He did say it was an incredible value because it didn't have any caramel like the 12 year old. Still have not broken the seal as I was waiting for the proper occasion to and company to open it. And it might be in the near future when the country lifts the mandatory covid 19 mandatory lock-down. Stay safe and stay sane folks.

Just bought a bottle of this to try last weekend. Fantastic stuff! This could be the perfect Scotch to get someone to try if they want to start drinking Scotch. So smooth. A friend of mine who usually only likes Rye tried it and loved it. I'm still working my way through the world of Scotch and prefer them not peaty (Not a fan, personal preference) And I've recently had Glenlivet 15, Glenmorangie, and Balvenie Double-Wood. All are really good, but so far I think The Dalmore is my new current favourite.

I really like Dalmore 12, but it's priced significantly higher than other 12 year old single malts here in Ontario. For example, Old Pulteney 12 sells for $79 CAD while Dalmore 12 sells for $100 CAD. So as much as I'd like to keep a bottle of Dalmore 12 on hand in my home bar, it's pretty much relegated to restaurant/pub sipping. If I'm going to spend $100, I'll get Ardbeg 10 or Talisker 10. Love your videos. Slainte !

In 1839 The Dalmore Distillery was established by Alexander Matheson, a partner in the Hong Kong trading house of Jardine, Matheson & Co, the trading firm which took over from the East India Company and oversaw much of the trade (including opium) in and around China. Matheson leased the distillery to the Sutherland family, but with limited success. The Mackenzie Brothers In 1878 the lease was transferred to Andrew and Charles Mackenzie (forming Mackenzie Brothers), and it’s at this point that the Dalmore also acquired its signature 12-pointed stag crest. The Mackenzie family received the royal crest as a reward in 1263 after Clan Chief Colin of Kintail saved King Alexander III’s life from a raging stag.

Just got a bottle of this as it was on sale at my local whisky shop. I have to say I don’t agree with their regular price point and at happy I got it cheaper because it is, quite frankly, mostly marketing. Yes you get a nice looking bottle with the stag head and everything but the caramel coloring really comes through aggressively and it is just not as complex and thick as you’d expect it to be. I do like some of the leathery notes I get when adding a drop of water and the sweetness of the sherry cask. But at their regular price it’s an underwhelming whisky for me.

I think I'll dip my toes in single malt scotch with Dalmore. If I can scare up $500.00, I'll get the 12, 15, 18 and cigar malt. Talisker and Ardbeg is on the short list also. With seven of us drinking a daily toast now, it's going to take a lot to keep us going. I'll have to look for a more "economic" whiskey and perhaps save the "good stuff" for once a week, but I really hate doing that. If it's not the "good stuff", then I really don't want to drink it. If I can't afford to drink only good stuff, then Underberg and Guinness will have to keep my guts soothed. (and those aren't cheap)

I guess I'm the only dissenter. I bought some Dalmore 12 for the first time and am not that impressed. If it were a song it would have sweet high notes and peaty low notes, but very little midrange. The smokiness is a bit offputting. It's not that slight hint you get in great blends like the higher level Johnny Walker's or the amazing in-your-face smokiness/brininess of an Ardbeg or Laphroaig.

Plz dont comment on the admiration of the color when its faked. Im not complaining that Dalmore adds it (even though i wish they wouldnt) im just sayin that it isnt worth commenting on when its faked, especially with the added comment about how the color was influenced by the casks...it was influenced by the artificial coloring and not much else. Taste wise however, i agree its excellent! I like the 15 year old too. It reminds me of south Texas baking. That heavy buttered southern baking
