Hi guy's great job. Just one little worry is if the fireplace in the 400 suite is dropping, doesn't it mean the beams underneath the floor are rotten and need strengthening. I mean, I would hate you to have a nasty accident after all that hard work. 😢❤

Apologies for nattering about health and safety, but please consider using canister respirators for the woodworm treatment. I worry about the dust masks not properly protecting you from vapor.

Also wear protective eye coverings. Liquid sprays unpredictability at times. If you can't use regular eyewear, try face shields like doctors wear. Also, do not wear rings on your fingers while working. I've known folks that have had their rings cut off from swelling from finger injuries (you could lose a finger to that same issue).

Respectfully, I admire the work that all of you are doing, but it was rather shocking to see over and to the left and to the right of that window. How rotted things were but of course that come from many, many years now. On the other hand, you two are cleaning it out exceptionally well and with no criticism from nobody. You all know what you're doing and the other thing is in putting things back. You are building them stronger and placing materials that would last longer than what they did in the day when it was built. Congratulations! I admire all of you. Will be praying for you and your family. Keep up the excellent work and will continue to follow the journey. God bless 🙏

Not for nothing but you might want to take a long straight board of some kind or a level and check the floor in front of the fireplace to see if there is a bow in the floor or if it is unlevel because if it is this will continue to be a problem.... Just a thought.... The work your doing is looking good so far keep up the good work...😮

The more I watch your videos the more I’m saddened at the way these beautiful chateaux are left to the elements. I realize that the families in most cases have no choice because of the financial burden, but still, as they say, it is a shame. At the very least there are folks such as yourself and the many others I watch who are willing to take on these projects and bring back some of the old beauty and elegance of these Grande Dames. Thank you for that….and continued good luck with these “just jobs” that come up from time to time!

Thanks Paul. We know ours was due to an older couple not being able to maintain it anymore. The owner after that was just a businessman and stripped any value he could find from it 😢😢

People just don't realise how many chateaux and manor France has....that's why the government isn't keen to protect and finance their heritage.....those r all fairly new buildings compared to the estate of the whole country. If they r that cheap it's because there r too many of the around the countryside. Its more cheap to take them down than keeping them.

@@ashleywaters7198 both situations are sad. Imagine being that older couple and having to say good bye to that place. The businessman should be dealt with severely, let’s just say. Again, glad that you and the family and others are able to being her dignity back.

Good job securing ceiling area over exterior windows. I assume you will add some insulation and vapor barrier before closing this space up. I am also curious if you have factored in a dumb waiter or laundry shoot system to help with laundry transfer between 3rd, 2nd and perhaps 1st floor with basement laundry area? If not you may want to try and find some way to make life easier with carrying food or laundry up and down those stairs, especially with future rental situation.

I respect your expertise and everything you work on. I do hope you sprayed the living daylights out of those window cavities because after you had sprayed and before you put the new wood in - while you were both up in the top of the window space - with your heads in the cavity, we could see in the lower left of where your heads were, live worms in the old wood behind your heads, popping in and out of worm holes, moving tiny bits of wood around. Were surprised because you had already sprayed. Do check the video so you can be sure all is well. This is NOT criticism in any way. Just caution.

Sadly, spraying doesn’t always find its way up inside all the bends and turns in wood and the lava live on. I work in a big museum and we used to fumigate all kinds of objects. (No longer legal I hasten to add). We got a job lot of wooden giraffes from Africa for our shop and fumigated them because they had a few worm holes. Later, when removed from the gas chamber one of the giraffes was seen to have a split in it and we gently broke it open to find several large wood boring beetles. They’s survived a full on gas attack somehow. Maybe they block their tunnels or something but the gas was deemed to be much more effective than spraying. Nowadays we freeze things to minus 30 degrees which seems to sort out most pests. …But who knows?
@alexandra-zaza-burns
@alexandra-zaza-burns Жыл бұрын
That’s definitely a worry! Especially true when it’s structural wood. Depending on the area in France there are also termites which is why chateaus in the north are often in better condition as they are above the termite zone.
@jellyartist
@jellyartist Жыл бұрын
@@alexandra-zaza-burns Indeed. Obviously you can only spray the surfaces that are exposed too, so as always, it’s what remains unseen that can cause the worry but you can only do what you can do and hope you get them all or at least a lot of them.
