Another awesome video. Would love to see you do a full album drum cover of either of these Records. The Drumeo video of Portnoy learning a Carey song has everyone wanting Carey to learn this song. Since you’ve played this and Pneuma (and most other Tool songs), can you answer in the mean time for us: Who is harder to cover Portnoy or Carey?
@AlexStock1872 ай бұрын
My prediction is that Dream Theater is, on average, more physically exhausting while Tool is, on average, more mentally exhausting. You’re in decent shape, so I’d guess Danny is overall “harder”. But feel free to correct me!

Not my kind of music, but the way you dug into the tempo and time signature changes was well worth the watch! Your ride cymbal and some of the other cymbals sound a bit muffled and stuffy to me. Maybe that’s on purpose/your preference. But I’m wondering if you’ve ever tried using nylon tip sticks? I switched to them a hundred years ago for just that reason and I swear by them. I get a really good ping on my old 21” Zildjian now that I bought back in the days long before we had A’s and K’s and BZT’s and PTSD’s or whatever all they are manufacturing now. It’s just a thought! Super nice footwork. You make it look so easy. I know better, and so do most, if not all, of your followers. I loved the concentration and counting you were doing around the 3:47 mark and following - great for independence!

Dude, this is freakin amazing. Curious question, how much of this was from the music sheet and how much was personal flare? I understand that the kit isn't a replica of Mike's set, but if I didn't know any better, I'd assume that you were playing it 1:1.
@thebestnumber15 ай бұрын
This is pretty much 1:1, except maybe the jazz ride cymbal in the carnival section. I think there was something off but not 100% sure. Absolutely fire cover though. Probably the best on YT i've seen.
@tyvisser5 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! To be honest I’m not entirely sure. I try my best to learn everything by ear, so it’s definitely not 1:1, but it’s somewhat close!
@omgmaster99855 ай бұрын
I guess this is definitely easier than Pneuma / Invincible or Polyphia stuff etc, right? For me this is just about listening to it many many times, whereas Tool's parts needs to be analyzed and rationalized Anyway EPIC work
