My wife just bought an etrike because she thinks a escooter (what I ride) would be too hard for her. She hasn’t ever attempted to ride one of my escooters, they are so easy to ride. I’m assembling her trike and watching some etrike videos. I’ll let her know that corners need reduced speed (I doubt she would ride fast anyways). My current escooter (350watts) will do 40kph (25mph) uphill with my 95kg (180lb). But I’ve got my eye on a 100kph (60mph) escooter with 2500watts. 😈 don’t worry I don’t ride recklessly.

After a short time of writing and getting used to the way it rides it's no different than two wheels just got to get used to it being on two wheels through the corners

You have to go MUCH slower on turns with a trike. That is a huge difference.

I wonder if electric trike users have had a bad experiences with not treating their trike as 'live' when dismounted? If you are simply gripping your handles in the old -style while aiming to push or reverse the bike while walking by its side you may be in for a nasty surprise. Your right handlebar may function as your throttle engaging your electric motor to move the trike forward in either pedal-assist or full electric. Forgetting this It is all too easily to inadvertently engage the motor by twisting the handlebar without realising it and then getting the nasty experience of your vehicle leaping forward -nearly out of your grasp-like an uncontrollable steer! Having had this experience a few times I am trying to drill myself into the habit of ONLY having the ignition key to 'ON' when I am in the saddle...

Sorry Stan but riding the sidewalk isn't always the answer either. I ride a trike too, not an e-trike. The sidewalks, in my city at least, are not always in the best shape: narrow, broken raised concrete, debris, not to mention the camber which tilts toward the street (for drainage). To be really useful for trike riding a sidewalk needs to be wide (at least 3 feet), clean with minimal camber and preferably some grassy buffer between the sidewalk and the street, as well as wide well-placed curb cuts. We have some of those; it's just hard to GET to them. I seriously doubt that most normal people who ride trikes would take one out on streets with heavy traffic and 45+mph speed limits. Most bike riders probably shouldn't be on those roads either; not all riders can manage 45 mph for a sustained distance. But riding neighborhood residential streets with relatively light traffic and 35mph or less speed limits is about as safe as can be expected for riding a trike. One hundred percent of my riding is done on those streets. I have a lot of fun riding and get great exercise. The biggest downside is the difficulty in actually going somewhere such as the store. I'm working on that.
