Күн бұрын

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson sits down with evolutionary biologist, author, and podcaster Dr. Bret Weinstein. They discuss the migration crisis, what values make up the “American Identity,” the potential for defining the transcendent, the origins of mutual reciprocity, and how the founding fathers codified these ideas into guidelines for the most functional nation in history.
Dr. Weinstein is an evolutionary biologist who specializes in adaptive trade-offs. His current focus is on the interaction between genetic and cultural evolution. He has studied tent-making behavior in neotropical bats and worked for 14 years as a professor at The Evergreen State College. He has testified to the U.S. Congress, and been a visiting fellow at Princeton University. He hosts the DarkHorse Podcast and is a New York Times best-selling author. Bret has been a frequent guest on The Joe Rogan Experience and has done live events with Richard Dawkins, Jordan Peterson, Eric Weinstein, Peter Boghossian, Sam Harris, Douglas Murray and has been interviewed by Bill Maher, Russell Brand, Glenn Loury, Dax Shepard, Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Glenn Beck, Bari Weiss, Derrick Jensen, and Lex Fridman, among many others.
This episode was recorded on January 26th, 2024

I love this conversation but I wish Jordan would let Bret finish his points. Jordan repeatedly interrupted Bret to add his own thoughts or perspectives, or take the conversation in a new direction before Bret had a chance to fully flesh out his thoughts. This is one of Jordan Peterson’s downsides. He has at least admitted to this in the past. Perhaps it is a compulsive side to his nature. He hears an idea from a commentator which triggers his sentiment and he has to get it out. Remember that he spent a great deal of time doing lectures for students at a university and speaking and writing is his passion. He seems to have trouble toning down the lecturing in all his interviews. We all have our downsides.

Their warnings alone should make everybody else agree to shit up with their own thinking and do as asked. Nobody else deserves to have brain thoughts who got so much wrong. I lived in the Darien for over 2 years in 2010-2012, the American Army southern command were finishing the highway to Yaviza at that time and training Senafront how to combat the "FARCC". It was the most bizarre thing I had witnessed, in a place, at that time, was a rural forgotten part of Panama. Strangely enough it seems odd just as the american finished the road, shortly after this migration thing happened....Might I add there was a lot of secret special forces operations going on at that time as well, and the only way I had found out was because the green berets there couldn't keep their mouths shut. Oh and that San Vicente camp he is talking about was originally supposed to be a hospital for the area, but my Panamanian friends tell me that they converted it to receive the migrants. The local panamanians complain about paying the taxes that built that hospital that is NOT being used for their needs.

These guys are trying to highlight a topic (other places to get he same info) and get the world to understand. All you do is prevent that going out because all you cared about was adding what you want people to think about. That is what most people do. Your ego means all you considered was Wanting people to know what you think. No consideration for these mens efforts or the plight and suffering ongoing. You all never learn. Answering Bret in that Europe did not ask the question why they came. In Sweden, they asked. "What is your intention?" If they answered "I intend to settle in Sweden" then we have them everything. I literally mean that they only had to state "I intend to settle in Sweden" and they got everything that my old mother had to pay for even though she was a part of building Sweden.

Oh my goodness, Dr. Peterson, it does seem like the old days to see you talking to Bret again! I think it’s been since their last book was released! You know, I really care about Bret and Heather. I’m so gratified that they were able to rebuild after the devastation of Evergreen. Don’t agree with them on everything but that isn’t required to have affection for them and to hold their well being in my heart. Speaking of people you haven’t talked to in ages, dearest Dr. Peterson, today I stumbled across an old interview of yours I had never seem before, and I was quite sure I had seen them ALL, the older and more obscure and difficult to find, the better. (I found your interviews with Ethan Klein on another channel and now I know you can smoke pot and tell a ghost story like a BOSS but be that as it may). Anyway the interview was with Jesse Lee Peterson from seven years ago, just a couple weeks before you became very very ill in the winter of ‘16. And I was so moved by it. Jesse asked you a certain question and did so with such a pure spirit, not playing games, not manipulating you for his own amusement or aggrandizement, not sitting there smirking thinking “I got him,” and you discerned that, and sensed that, and responded in an equally pure and open spirit, and it was such a beautiful and soul to soul exchange that I wondered if another conversation might be good. I know you both have changed over the years but the most important things haven’t changed. A very blessed Holy Week, dearest Dr. Peterson, love you dearly. (Don’t know why). Your faithful Ruth Anne

Great video. I'm no scholar, but conversations like these bring me back to my university days when I discovered comparative philosophy. I fell in love with it and really enjoyed my time attempting to understand / write about the presuppositional differences between various religious and philosophical traditions. In a more perfect world, such classes would be mandatory. If you're young and appreciate discussions like this, there's actually a whole degree program dedicated to examining and understanding the underlying axioms upon which worldviews are predicated. If you're like I was and not sure what to major in and taking too many English, psychology, and art classes, comparative philosophy is probability what you're looking for. It goes straight to the heart of the matter in a comprehensive and comprehendible manner. It's worth at a minor at least.

Great interview! Many superb and profound points were made by both participants. However, Jordan Peterson's continual long (though amazingly coherent) interruptions with digression within digression within numerous clauses and associations, make his arguments difficult to follow; they also make it hard to connect his questions with answers from Bret Weinstein. Jordan speaks as though he were writing and that would be great - because his convoluted style of speaking, though astoundingly coherent - is better suited to writing rather than speaking. Many of his compound, complex sentences need to be re-read in order to fully comprehend them. This criticism in no way diminishes the excellence of this interview. I think many more listeners would understand if Jordan streamlined his most valid and complex thought process. Amazing, really.
