Great drama comes from creating characters who possess a WANT and the NEED.
Two often opposing forces that exist within a character which are tearing them in different directions, creating external conflicts for them to navigate and slowly revealing their conflicted nature both to us and them as the narrative progresses.
Using Wes Anderson's 'The Darjeeling Limited' as a case study we look at how your characters have to come to understand during the narrative that you create the journey IS the destination.

Hey Ted - You can apply this concept to some of the Michael Powell / Emeric Pressburger films too (my favorite British film series by the way - love how they use Technicolor in many of their films)... Would love to hear your take on one or all of their films in a video one day. Cheers! Hope you are well.

The luggage was the Father's. Throughout the film they talk about how important the Father's things are and they argue over who was the favorite son. Until they come to terms with his death and their relationships they can't let go of the luggage. They need to come to terms with the past, let go in order to move forward.
