As a former bikini competitor, everything Greg said it’s true. There a some great coaches tho. My former coach is coaching some of the top and he never asked me to take anything. I was natural. There are quite some girls at the amateur level who are natural. But at nationals I was between the last girls. I realized it would take me many years to maybe win my pro card and that prep was awful. I only did 3 competitions in 3 years, but each time my period took longer to come back and at the last time I was worried. I know girls, who were naturally competing, but lost their periods for years and are struggling to have kids in their late 30s. It wasn’t worth my health and risk for me anymore. It’s been almost 1 and a half years since my last competition and I’m still struggling sometimes with eating disorder. I had to gain 25 lb over my stage weight to satiate my appetite and hormones and not binge all the time. Before bodybuilding I never had eating disorder and body dysmorphia like this, and I was a former athlete in another sport. On the steroid note, one of my childhood friend died of heart attack at the age of 28 because of steroid use over more than a decade. He said, he knew the consequences but he really wanted to be a bodybuilder so he was ok with the risks. So many bodybuilders die. As a former athlete in another sport, I can say, bodybuilding is extremely unhealthy. When someone gets stage lean, it is the closest their body is to dying. Hormones that regulate everything in the body don’t work well anymore,also bc you are constantly hungry, you can’t sleep, bc your body is keeping you up bc wants essential food to survive. So in about the last month before your competition, you work extremely hard, under eat and can never rest and recover. It’s horrible. Unless people take steroids, that way, they can somewhat recover and keep pushing hard. I’m so happy Greg talks about the bad side of bodybuilding. I wish I would have known this before I started. And I hope people believe what he saids, bc he saids a lot important stuff, real and truth. I wish more bodybuilders would be honest. I met so many of them, and 99% of them will not tell you the bad or the truth. All drug addicts like to hide it. Most bodybuilders are like drug addicts. And many of them don’t see it like that. Very serious stuff.

She’s ripped to fuck and works hard but fuck me she looks Gaunt in the face, can see all her bones. I don’t compete just want muscles. Did not take me long to realise how low people have to go fat wise wow. I am perimenpause and refuse even to take HRT lol, I determined to get through it without and HRT. Don’t wanna take hormones for life. As for girls and period I can only imagine how bad that is.

Heck there are people, young people at Planet Fitness doing steroids!!!!! I agree with this post 100% I am a former figure competitor. My last competition was in 2012 I am almost 60 now. I never did any steroids or even took protein supplementation. Not to mention that I had a plant based diet.….I did not have a coach for posing or training (which hurt me in competition). I could only make it to compete to 3 contests and I got 5th place in my age group all 3 times. But I had lot of issues with meeting key points according to the judges requirements. My abs and quads were too weak. Even so I did OCB competitions that are supposedly all natural there were a lot of girls who took other stuff to help to get lean…. Bottom line is you got to do it according to YOUR standards not the judges who have these absurd standards that are very hard to achieve because a lot of things are in play. Your genetic is one of them. The way a person favors certain exercises because your body might be built better for them…so everyone should develop a look based on their genetics not on the industry standards. But looking back today I think I did great considering what I was against.

Everyone who is on steroids lies. I had the honor of training at the first Gold's Gym outside the state of CA. We had many pro bodybuilders and powerlifters. There was a lady who was a bodybuilding competitor. Built like a statue of granite. She swore she never took steroids and claimed she hated the fact people took drugs to enhance their physiques. She was constantly exclaiming how against steroid use she was. Then one day she went to the locker room and left her gym bag by the front desk. The owner deciided to look in her bag and lo and behold was a couple of bottles of Anavar. We laughed our asses off.
@ramy193229 ай бұрын
Ok I’m sure this probably isn’t the case but anavar is prescribed for muscle wastage after long term corticosteroid use, that’s why I take it, I had little to no muscle when I started working out seven years ago( I had an autoimmune disease which forced me to take the corticosteroid or die) & maintained no muscle gain for 6 years, I started test and anavar then instantly grew more than I had in all seven years in only two and a half months

My main demographic was special populations, but on occasion, I trained someone to get ready for competition. I have always been against performance enhancers, so most people wouldn't want me to train them for competition if I didn't support their use of these drugs. The client I had that placed 3rd in the local competition worked very hard and sacrificed a lot to place 3rd. I was so proud of her. It's been almost 10 years, and she's a mother of 3 now. She's still passionate about fitness, but after seeing how impossible it is to win without drugs, and not to mention the politics involved, she decided to no longer pursue competition.

I switched coaches and she didn’t even mention steroids to me so it really depends on the coach you have, but I didn’t place because MOST of the competitors are on some kind of PED. I would've needed to build muscle for a few more years, and drop more weight at comp day to even make top 5. This sport is not easy and definitely not healthy. Be realistic before you attempt it.

Professional bodybuilding is not a sport, it's a beauty contest. Professional bodybuilders are not athletes, they are professional liars. Let me give you an example: Ronnie Coleman claimed in a recent interview that he became a professional bodybuilder without taking steroids. However, he also confirmed that he had been taking illegal medications throughout his professional bodybuilding career. What is there to talk about when such famous people on KZbin as David Lade and many others purposefully lie to their audience that they have never taken steroids in their lives. They do not feel any responsibility for the consequences of their delusion. Only their own benefit, that's their true goal.
@nathansmith36089 ай бұрын
I like Ronnie, but I've seen videos of him claiming he got down to 0.3% body fat for competitions, which I don't think is possible b/c he could still walk back then & I'm pretty sure at 0.3% BF you wouldn't have enough myelin left in your nervous system to even walk properly. So I'm pretty sure he either got a faulty reading & kept repeating it, or got a decimal in the wrong place IDK if I'd call him a liar though, he seemed legitimately confused about most of the things he got wrong IMO, but maybe I'm being too charitable. Either way, his story is more of a cautionary tale than something we'd want to emulate for at least 99% of people out there, myself included

I think this is the kind of screaming we love. The passion over the issues in the industry and the desire for it to be better I really don’t get how bodybuilding is judging competitors on aesthetics, but they actually mean how much muscle one has, or how nice their booty is. Having a division way more focused on aesthetics then guys like Anthony Matello would have turned pro already, and less guys and girls abusing drugs to get bigger or surgeries to change their bodies

A very revealing, and sincere lecture! Greg, you tell as it is; good, bad, and ugly; women should not be taking anabolic drugs! It is actually ridiculous; and for a bikini contest, it's absurd! Anyway, I have known about the use of steroids, from what I've heard, and read from the bodybuilding magazines in the very early 1980s when I was in my senior years in high school; in Ontario, Canada there was also grade 13. I remember one such magazine warned about the terrible side effects of taking anabolic steroids, and to give a precise year in 1981, in Muscle Illustrated; Editor was Dan Lurie. I remember a friend, whose father told me in the late 1970s that almost all bodybuilders, in the Top Contests were on drugs - anabolic steroids. Such competitors within a Mr. Nation, or World arena, took anabolic steroids. He also trained in bodybuilding, and revealed that most took steroids; whereby it was very early 1970s; and I'd say maybe 1972. Therefore, if a competitor, and not only a winner, second, and third placing, won, steroids were taken. Later on deep into the 1990s, and early 2000s for the top contests, and competitors, there was also the consumption of Human Growth Hormone as an anabolic drug, too. Anyway, you know the score; in the Iron Game. However, it does not have to be that way. First thing to do is to consume at least 20, or up to 50 grams more of protein; and then you are on the road of success. Only my true opinion.🏋♂

Diet foods and artificial sweeteners are quite amazing now a days they have come a long way from 20+ years ago. Protein powders and bars tasted like crap back in the 90s.

I'm 54 and have been a bodybuilder for near 37 years. TRT since I was 52. I look great. But I'm not healthy or particularly fit. It's all a smoke screen. It just helps me 'feel' better.

@@KarenB-jp3tx To be fair to myself, I am probably quite healthy. I have my bloods checked twice a year. Apart from unavoidable health issues. I just wish my cardio was better. Lung issue stops me being as fit as I would like to be. Take care.

Why wasn't the bodybuilder evicted from his apartment? Because he was squatting. 😂

For having competed, it’s such a fuck up world! It’s accepted ED and body dysmorphia, we don’t even see it when we compete. We think we are so bad ass and most coaches are just playing and know nothing, they just want the $$$. I cannot take any of it seriously anymore. When you distance yourself from it, it’s when you see clear. It’s a circus!

The answer is simple. Really simple. Compete in the natural leagues. If you want to compete, but aren’t willing to do the extreme side of the export, which is the Ifbb, then compete in the naturally. That is all there is it

I used to follow an up and comer guy in his early 20s. Long story short, he became friends with people that promoted drug use and was already on gear by his 2nd year of training. Now he's 25 and he looks older than me at 34. Nowadays seems to me a lot of guys see bodybuilding as the gateway to a glamorous life. Trips, events, networking, all paid for by someone else.
