I was born in Cali, Colombia, but I moved to the United States when I was around 10 years old. The last place I remember being in Colombia was Cartagena. I've been following your journey and I once compared you to the Bon Jovi of the water. You've had an amazing life sailing the world, experiencing both good and tough times. You've accomplished something that very few people have. I just wish both of you safe travels and the time of your lives. Actaually to every one.

I subscribe to a bunch of sailing channels on KZbin to vicariously experience voyaging. This is the best episode I have watched - bar none. And there was no boat or sailing involved. Go figure. Thanks for all you have given us. Please try to do at least one or two of these sorts of interviews / conversations every year. You are REALLY GOOD at it.

Food for thought! Frist of all people. I love this interview James . I think this couple should do their own KZbin channel. So though I have is ; sailboat racing in small sailboats . Or sport sailboat. It about the same as sailing on a 3 hour cruise and you get a work out .? Thanks for making our lives better John the sailing instructor; and school bus safety trainer from Kansas City

on a boat your mind is always thinking is this right, is that right ,whats the weather doing , how much power have we got , how deep is it , how much fuel do we have, do we need food, are we pulling anchor , never a real rest but thats the way you climatize your self to be a safe and competent and confident able seaman or woman .but yes it would at times be draining , love in insight and realistic story .

ZATARA is the benchmark for sailing/land integration. They started from absolute scratch without sailing exoerience. But, they had some critical elements: Money, money, money. Close family. Mechanical skills. Ability to take extensive land vacation/breaks. Not dependent on paying "guest". Nohoa is an example of making major adjustments with "two" oops.

Capt Cousteau told a friend of ours that planning to go around the world in one planned big bite was not realistic, but that many journeys were. I later thought that maybe each journey is it's own life..and that a life without tides or wind in the sail is like, well..the doldrums. A happy living death.

Hey James. JP here. Met you with Rick in the San Blas and Cartagena. Your friends in this video mentioned driving to Sapzurro from Medellin. You might want to let them know there are no roads to Sapzurro. It’s in the Darian Gap. Spent a few days there. They can fly into Capargana and take a lancha to Sapzurro. The only other way is to take a ferry from Necocli or Turbo. All of their supplies come by boat. It’s like being on a remote island but it’s on the mainland.

Sailing is not sustainable without significant funding. You buy a boat, pour buckets of money into it for maintenance, all while the value of your ‘home’ depreciates and you end up with substantially less than you started with

Maybe have an adventure triangle. A monohull, a catamaran and a house (or) house, apartment and catamaran. Three groups rotating every four months. Set it up so everyone gets some of the good seasons. But could switch up rotations from time to time to six months or year. Probably have to have a buyout or rotate out plan. This may not resolve the thirteen year old's desire to be in a school and keep a group of friends. Maybe better for someone like me approaching retirement. Need to appreciate, respect and assume the best of each other. I wonder if a two group or four group rotation would be better. Some people want more stability, some want continual stimulation. It would be nice if members took on the spirit of not just trying to do the minimum for getting the adventure location ready for the following party, but instead envisioned doing something special for those who followed like screening in the porch after remembering a comment that they did not look forward to the mosquitos or a husband and wife volunteering, without being solicited, to modify the rotation because of a life event for another family, that made sailing less than practical for a period of time. Sounds like a provocative title for a Reality KZbin channel "Couples Swapping".

So wonderful to hear adventures stories , ps , my father instilled in me when I was young .don't get involved in others dreams , I met one of the origanal Nimbin founders in the 80s and he told me , he felt it was a failed experiment , but being a founder gave him respect, he basically told me , do ure own thing , and I have ever since , it's sad , but I could never let another person smack my child ! , this conversation vlog is wonderful 💖

You and Wife to be a very positive couple, Ustedes son una familia muy bacana !!!We understand ( Wifey and I) the narrative and purpose of the video. That being stated, we did not really appreciate how the Argentine/Aussie couple were trying to covet insider stuff during the interview even telling you to hush once or twice. Not cool at all. They came off as selfish not wanting to share information with others. You had us sold when you altruistically rescued those French mariners in the Pacific. That other couple had such a negative vibe about them. I don't think they would of done it. Those are the types of sailing people we want to stay far away from. I'm glad there hanging up. On a positive and bright side best wishes to you and family.

Real but vague question, assuming i want to do like two year journey and get out. What is the expense i will incur after selling it all after? From Vancouver, Im looking to hit Hawaii, Australia, and Mediterranean sea all around, then back to Florida and sell the boat there. 200 grand on boat is decent shape? 50 grand on preps of boat? 2 grand a month on living roughly? How much back i recover after? Like 175 grand back? (2x24)+50+200-175=125 grand. Is this realistic? Also, is it more affordable the longer you do it? Thanks.

James, I have really had trouble accepting your transition to land. But this may be your best video ever. I love the way it was presented. Deeney and Pablo are such great story tellers. And they have a great story to tell. (Apologies if I misspelled their names) Anna, it is so good to see your smile again. But there is a problem. Luna obviously needs some more time with me. And I could use some with her. And, I need to be back on the water.

That’s such a cynical attitude from your guest . I remember when I started traveling years ago before it became so popular with major destinations being overrun with tourists. I was delighted to meet other travelers from all over the English speaking world and spend time with them . Now if you find a gem you become overprotective as if it’s yours and don’t tell anyone else how great it is and how it’s super affordable. She said cut that part out three times and was dead serious .
