Its finally happened. We really are at the point where we're using theoretical physics to explain Elden Ring lore

The entirety of the lore is LITTERED with references to astral phenomena like Quasars, crystal rain, white holes, etc. It really goes to show how much thought George, Miyazaki, and FromSoftware's writing team put into their worldbuilding and lore. Devs definitely have some of the most well-read people in the industry, imo.

The thing about Farouk Azula is how it seemingly messes with causality. In the floating city we can find death roots, something that shouldn’t exist until Prince Godywn is killed and buried Not only that but we can fight and kill Maliketh yet if we go back to the beast sanctuary we can meet with Gurranq
@MrToothpicks
@MrToothpicks Жыл бұрын
It's possible Maliketh is using the same method as Morgott when appearing as Margit, using some kind of physical projection when they are still at their respective places. As for the deathroot, is possible that it's not from godwyn but from the rune of death's influence that resides within Maliketh, which makes the above theory make more sense as it would be dumb for him to leave and risk spreading it more beyond the floating ruins

I think the real question to figure out if this place is outside time or not is to know how alexander got there in the first place. Because even Maliketh could just be a projection and Gurranq could be the real version of himself. The rune of death simply could be using this projection as a means to defend itself, I dunno. But the fact Alexander can make it to this place leads me to believe its 100% real.

@@MrToothpicks I definitely agree that the Gurranq/ Maliketh paradox is probably less to do with Farum Azula's time properties and more about magical projection. If you complete Gurranq's questline, Maliketh will recognize your character and be shocked that you are betraying him.

Farum Azula was still on ground, connected to the Lands Between and connected to the roots of the Erdtree when Godwyn was murdered and his body began infecting the roots of the Erdtree. It was hit by a comet after Deathroot had already spread across the Lands Between.

Another Theory that would explain how we land in Farum Azula is the following: Every Charcter that commits a cardinal sin gets taken to Farum Azula. When we commit the cardinal sin at the Forge of Giants we immediatly get taken to Farum Azula. ''Cardinal Sin'' can also means ''Death Sin'', which also links up with the death rune we find there. alexander could have also commited a cardinal sin on his way and thats why he ends up in farum azula.

We cannot take what we see in this game as real. We are blinded by our grace, there even is a theory that states that the Erdtree itself is but a tree stump, the golden part being an illusion created by our vision of grace. Good video, I'm glad you're going back to making lore content :)

The Golden Seeds that flew off from the Erdtree and grow into minor Erdtrees are literally described as illusory. That's pretty blatant. I'm not saying the Erdtree is intangible, but I do think it's some kind of projection of the Erdtree in its prime. I believe the first fight with the fake yellow Godfrey is a similar kind of projection, meant to subtly reinforce the connection between Godfrey in his prime as Elden Lord, with his axe intact, and the former glory of the Erdtree. Another thing is that the tree itself almost appears to be cracked or shattered in some places, much like Marika/Radagon, the Elden Ring, and even the Elden Beast. We saw those cracks appear on Marika's body in the preview trailers as she was striking the Elden Ring with her hammer, since her body is the physical vessel for the Ring (which kind of raises the question of what exactly she was striking... wouldn't it make more sense for her to have taken the hammer to her own body? And what then of the Elden Beast? Did it manifest in self-defense? That might explain the "wound" on it's torso). If the Erdtree is some sort of manifestation of the Elden Ring's power, it would make sense for it to have the same outwardly broken appearance.

@@DungEnjoyerr lol piss Godfrey. Yeah, it makes sense that Morgott created the shade of Godfrey as another line of defense. It's also the same color as the golden magic he uses, as well as his body when he fades away in Godfrey's arms. I don't think the Erdtree is only visible to certain people, there just isn't near enough evidence for that to be the case. If I remember correctly, the Tarnished Archeologist's logic for that theory was that one of the NPCs says "do you see it, over there? The Erdtree?" Which, according to him, would only make sense if some people actually couldn't see it. That's really flimsy reasoning to me. I think everyone sees the Erdtree the same way. I'm just not sure if that's what it "naturally" looks like (similar to how some people believe Emperor Palatine was using some kind of force projection to obscure his true appearance in the Star Wars prequels).

What you're essentially explaining, is what in Star Trek: Generations was referred to as "The Nexus." The Nexus existed and traveled in regular time and space but within The Nexus, time had no meaning there and people could exist in both The Nexus and outside of it simultaneously. Strange concept but it makes sense scientifically.

My theory regarding gurranq/maliketh is that Maliketh is Marika's shadow, and it exists as a semi-distinct entity from Gurranq, the beastman who was chosen to house Maliketh within him. I believe this because when Ranni betrays the fingers she is attacked by the balefull shadow, which is suddenly a seperate entity from Blaidd, who is partially insane now almost as if hes had a thing that was part of his consciousness removed. Gurranq shows this madness and violence too when you give him enough deathroot, and with his many many years of experience he manages to calm himself down. Maybe had Blaidd been spared he couldve eventually controlled himself. Im torn as to why they go mad tho. It may be just the trauma of having this shadow spirit removed from them causing damage, or it may be that they are reverting to mere savage beasts after having the shadow of the two fingers removed from them. Maybe that is what made them both a cut above the random beastmen of faram azula we find.
@LAK_770
@LAK_770 Жыл бұрын
They go mad due to strong conflicting motives. The baleful shadow is a separate phenomenon that doesn’t really factor into that conflict. Blaidd/Maliketh were created by the Fingers/GW to serve “the program”, but they also inevitably develop personally loyalty to their Empyrean over the millennia. When Ranni actively violates the program, Blaidd has a strong obligation to stop her at any cost, but can’t bring himself to do it. Eventually he would crack and kill her. Maliketh is “saved” from this by the fact that Marika’s betrayal is a done deal and she’s totally inaccessible, there’s nothing he can possibly do to stop it. He’s just left to regret his failure and hopelessly try to fix it

If you feed all the death root to Gurranq before encountering him in farum azula, he has a comment about it. Meaning that if it indeed is in a different timeline, the only way this could work is that it is in the future. You can also observe the giant cauldron and the beastmans mansion from certain spots in farum azula. The biggest nail in the coffin of the time travel theory for me however is the fact that the erdtree reacts instantly to the release of destined death. Since it happens in farum azula, if we were in fact in a different time , how come the effect is instant?

I think this is a brilliant theory! I would like to add that the mathematics of relativity suggest that at the centre of a black hole, where time dilation is at its strongest, a NEW instance of space-time opens up (almost like another universe). This is similar to the nature of the Placidusax arena, which is at the centre of the tornado and would explain why we expel the Frenzied Flame in said arena - because it is treated as an entirely different universe that the Outer Gods have no influence over (other than maybe Placidusax's Outer God, as he awaits their return). You will remember in Interstellar, *spoilers* that when Cooper enters the black hole, he enters a four dimensional space, where time is the fourth dimension. An explanation for the Gurranq/Maliketh duality could be that Gurranq is Maliketh within an instance of time (the present) and Maliketh is the culmination of Gurranq's will across time/his lifetime, being in a 4D space; as the embodiment of Marika's shadow and the vessel of Destined Death. This would explain why Gurranq - not Maliketh - seems to be atoning for losing a fragment of death (constantly hungering for deathroot), whereas Mailketh seems to be more controlled and less rabid; and that only Maliketh in Farum Azula seems to access Destined Death (i.e: Death becoming his "blade once more").
@crowstakingoff
@crowstakingoff Жыл бұрын
I'd never heard of the "new universe" theory but that makes sense, I've seen interstellar so I get what you're saying. Your comment made me think of an interesting headcanon, which is that we the player might be the one who steals Destined Death from Maliketh before the Night of the Black Knives. Skyward Sword had this hidden lore secret about how the hero mentioned at the start of the game is actually us, after we go into the past to defeat the final boss. And Farum Azula definitely seems to take influence from Skyward Sword. So I guess we're Ranni lol.

So my ☕️ 1. Gloam Eyed Queen is possibly a dragon, specifically the twin bird 2. I believe she was Placidusax’s “God” 3. Maliketh and Marika were originally high clergy members within the great tree order 4. They double crossed the order and couped them. 5. Placidusax rips farum into the sky, hides 6. Marika time locks the Farum in an evergoal with the rune of death and maliketh inside probably to hunt down Placidusax 7. ranni steals- night of the black knives- 8. Marika Shatters 9. Maliketh and all the beings in evergoals split. Almost like ghosts

From a theoretical physics point the fact that the floating rocks are 1. Moving really slowly and 2. seem to be stable in the up-down direction would lead to a conclusion that the center of mass of the tornados would have to be quite high up. If the rocks were spinning at the level of the tornados center of mass they would need a second force to pull them up and their angular velocity (which leads to the square of their tangential speed) would be really really fast.

Farum Azula used to be on the ground. And was located just northwest of the Bestial Sanctum in Caelid. 6:38 if the floating rocks truly were held in an orbit, they would be in constant motion about the central storm tornado, like the planets and our Sun. Without angular momentum being conserved via orbital motion, the rocks would fall directly towards the center storm. Something else must be at play to keep them there.

My personal theory is that farum azula used to be in the cloudy spot in the middle of the map, at the center of the divine towers. I think the powers of storm were used to destroy it and cast it out to the ocean. Nepheli mentions remaining at stormveil castle in case she needs to call upon the storm in her quest. There's tons of storm themed weapon art magic, maybe stormveil castle is named after a weapon built into the landscape, controlled by whoever is in control of the castle. Edit: The storm axe's effects are also very similar to the storm effects in the background of placidusax's fight. Dragon lightning is red but the bolts in the sky are yellow.

I forget the name. But I personally believe it’s now a place that exists at all points in time. Potentially you could run into someone from the past and future if they happen to get in there. For some other reason the given person would return to their own time, with little or no time having passed.

While I understand not wanting to bring too much other Souls lore into the mix to avoid confusion, I think one can glean some interesting details details from comparing this to how dragons are portrayed in Dark Souls. In Dark Souls 1, dragons are regarded more as a force of nature - an element, if you will - rather than as "beings". They ruled a world in which there was no disparity, no life or death, no heat or cold, and, presumably, no time. They were made of stone. We see one awakening in the intro, iirc, and get the idea that these being don't move around much. Disparity was introduced into the world in order to defeat the dragons, which would have been impossible without it. Disparity came from the advent of fire and the power that it offered. Yet while said disparity was a blessing in the moment, it was a borrowed one, because with time comes decay, and eventually, the fire would fade and doom the world to an age of darkness and stagnation equal to the age of light and progress that Gwyn established. Disparity is a pendulum. Anyway, all of that is to say that it would be very typical Fromsoft lore to portray dragons as being that, to some degree exist beyond the normal rules that govern other beings. That Placidusax retreating to a safe haven beyond time is very much in line with how Fromsoft usually portrays dragons. It's very possible, that the kind of age Placidusax would want as an Elden Lord is one that stands perfectly still. One without disparity and movement of any kind.

I really like the space-time angle but I not sure about the applicability of this level of physics to the game. Gravity magic is an established force already, and I think there's a swarm of floating rocks over the post-starfall opening to Nokron in Limgrave which stay suspended without the presence of a black hole tornado. On the other hand, Nokastella does translate as dark star, which is an old term for a black hole. Sometimes I think, the developers just do things because they look cool. Having to map out an actual scientific explanation for every sweet visual effect would be too onerous.

What doesnt make sense to me atleast is that theres dozens of dead beastmen graves around Farum Azula,which means time isnt or wasnt exactly nonexistant.It must also mean that at one point Farum Azula was somewhere else that was affected by time.Alot of people pointed out that the giant ruins around Limgrave might be from Farum Azula,which would also explain the beastman in that cave. Bigger question is how did Farum Azula end up in the sky,"beyond time" and who made that possible?
@xantishayde-walker4593
@xantishayde-walker4593 Жыл бұрын
Uh yeah, the ruins around Limgrave and other places are most definitely from Farum Azula. Now, if you go to Caelid and to the place where Gurranq is, you'll notice that the Site of Grace is called Farum Bridge or something to that effect. That suggests that it was leading to a place Farum, like Farum Azula. I think it has been suggested that it was just called Farum when it was on the ground and over the decades/centuries that have passed, people got to calling it Farum Azula, perhaps as a mention of the color of the sky surrounding it (aka blue or Azul). I'm not 100% sure on that. Anyway, the whole idea of Farum Azula being somewhere else is a fairly well-worn concept, at least in the Elden Ring Lore Community. Watch some SmoughTown, Tarnished Archeologist or others like them to find deep dives into all this. I've watched a ton of their stuff and it's amazing. VaatiVidya eat your heart out! Sorry Vaati. Also, as for the "beyond time" part, it's been said by others that it's most likely due to Placidusax.

Ignoring spahgetification, as you observe an object enter a black hole, you never see it disappear. (Maybe you see it get torn to shreds). The object (or it’s remains) would appear to sit on the event horizon, slowly fading away, red shifting forever. The light coming off of it would get less & less intense until it could only be seen in IR, microwaves, radio, etc For the observer, time would be at a standstill in the singularity for the observed, as if it were traveling at light-speed. For the object, the universe would pass around it at an infinite rate, such is how time appears to flow for someone stuck in time. Farum Azula isn’t quite this, but close enough for the purposes of the game. The parallels are clear. Destined Death was not only removed from order, but from time. Destiny being related to time, perhaps the idea was to make it not so destined?

Fact is you can't see Farum from the edgiest edge there is in Caelid because of the rainstorm And you can't see it from the Giant's Forge either because it's too high and the clouds block the way when you look down (I also looked with the telescope) Another fact is that you can see Farum from Malenias Divine Tower (best at night tbh because the moon makes it more visible) and it in fact only has 1 tornado So I'm sorry

Beyond Time means, well Beyond Time. It is a timeless state, no time dilation required. There is no "time" there, things can still move or not move it is entirely dependent on the state they were in when they entered the timeless state. It's not the same as if time were to stop or be slowed down. You cannot apply temporal logic to a timeless state, all things would be happening at once.

what if it is just a place marika herself created to be a place for malekith to stay, since he has the rune of death, he is away from the elden ring/ throne and the mainland. I don’t know why there would be draconic tree setiniels, or the beasts, possibly children of malekith or something along the lines.

Yo this is off topic but like last vid me commented if the normal enemies can respawn when u don’t release the rune of death. And even if u realize it they still respawn. But when bosses die they will never respawn soo yea

Man I would love a theory about the Bestial Sanctum and the Farum Great Bridge How they are related to the Crumbling Farum Azula we know Why is the bridge called Farum Great Bridge if it doesn't lead to Farum? Why is the Bestial Sanctum in Caelid with Maliketh and architecture like the one we see in Crumbling Farum? Was Farum on the ground before? So many theories!

Interesting theory my dude. Mabye this is akin to the last giant and giant lord from ds2. Dragon lord plas is dead, imdended in faram azula stone, but alive although heavely injured in the tornado. Like last giant who we kill as giant lord in past via memeorys. He even has two boss Souls. One as Giant Lord and one as Last gaint. The means of timey wimy stuff may differ, but this is annoyingly da ja vu

Many people believe those dragons embedded in the rock are just normal dragons, not any part of Placidusax since they have full separate bodies wings and all. However one of his severed heads (he used to have 4) resides in the Dragon Temple (Dragon Temple Altar point of grace)

Beast clergyman in caelid is maliketh from the future who lost to us ..lost all destined death...and now feeds on deathroot to regain the parts of it... how he got there is up for speculation but it can be explained by the gap in time between when we wake up in capital of ash and when we kill maliketh Now 2 questions How does he remember us when we meet him in caelid And 2ndly how is he still alive Well both have less than satisfactory explanations Since time dilation is the principle we are working on when we meet beast clergyman in caelid...he is future maliketh... who has no idea he has met us before.. but the lands between is now simultaneously at the state where erdtree will be burnt at anytime...since we are meeting him at both places the time we encounter maliketh and the time we meet him in caelid are occuring at the same time if it makes sense which rejogs his memory and..also sends his past self memories from the future ..this is why he attacks us in one of our encounters.... The 2nd one is how is he still alive Is due to placidusax...technically taken as cannon....is we fight placi after maliketh...it can be other way round but for hypothesising lets take the normal route Which reverses time giving maliketh time to escape his death. .but finding out that the sequence of events even after having destined death with him has changed because farum is the only place affected by the time shenanigans of placi...so maliketh lives...

My issue with Farum Azula is that it feels like it was added after the game was already finished. It lacks ties with the rest of the world. How did Alexander and Bernahl went there?
@meatbicycle6456
@meatbicycle6456 Жыл бұрын
That doesn't make any sense because u have to beat maliketh to progress, regarding Bernahl, Bernahl was invading you he is not physically in Farum azula, Alexander on the other hand was going north east towards Mountaintops, you can summon him on the Fire Giant fight.
@vukkulvar9769
@vukkulvar9769 Жыл бұрын
@@meatbicycle6456 That argument is worthless. Let's imagine I want to add a zone and tie it to the main plot. I would also make the boss there a mandatory step for progressing. It doesn't mean that new zone would fit well.
