Does anyone else find it interesting that Radagon gifted a Great Rune to Renala? Before the shattering, the only other removal was my Marika herself to bind destined death. So, before the shattering, two Great Runes were removed from the Elden Ring, the Rune of Death, and the Rune of Rebirth. Interesting pair. As if they removed the cycle itself. No wonder the world is in such a stagnant state.

I mean it is a good plan... If you want to enact change in this world but you still dont have a concrete way to do it, remove rune of death and remove rune of rebirth effectively freezing the world in its place. That way you have control over the flow of souls/beings in and out. In essence buying yourself some time to put your plans into motion, like for example getting tarnished into the land so the strongest becomes the Elden Lord. Its like she wanted to oust the power from the power-holders in the world but wasnt ready in time so she froze the cycle completely... Kinda like hitting pause in a strategy game to give yourself time to think and order your units appropriately and do some micro-managing of your resourcess and all.

Radagon is a Golden Order good boy. He only left the Rune with her because he knew it was allowed. The rune of rebirth isn't even tied to the two fingers, I think the rune was either a way to give Rennala the means to protect their family, or maybe the beginning of a plan to rebirth Radagon himself as his own man

@@odd-eyes6363 Precisely on point on the first part. He is a golden order good boi But the golden order doesn’t actually heed the greater will as it’s meant to be The golden order is founded upon the removal of death from the world, something that only happened once Queen Marika removed the rune of death after the Godskin Apostasy. So even Radagon follows an altered version of the greater will’s design for the world. Ain’t that a fascinating thought?

We know from the Rune of Death that Marika can remove pieces of the Elden Ring. My guess is that she removed the Rune of Rebirth in an effort to create a change (for whatever motivation you ascribe to her) and rebirthed herself into Radagon. However, she was still the vessel for the Elden Ring so she remained as both herself and a reincarnation - the One True God becomes Two.

It's basically like the player rebirth/respec their cosmetic and their stats with larva tears, and then play the game again with different motivations due to different focus on stats. A lot of Elden Ring's design is a tongue-and-cheek nod to video game. ie destined-death being locked away so both enemy and player respawn when they died.

@@jakobrenner2230 Actually, western translations of Elden Ring (and all Souls in general) tend to create a lot of confusion, as they are often misinterpreted and therefore translated in an often incorrect or imprecise manner. In the original Japanese language, things are often much clearer and this also applies to the matter of Radagon's red hair: The description only specifies that Radagon was "desperate" for his red hair, which was reminiscent of that of fire giants, wondering if it could be some sort of "curse". But the meaning of the speech suggests that the "curse" in question is actually metaphorical and that it refers to the fact that Radagon sees himself as a "prisoner" of Marika's will (who in addition to being his other half, is also the "original" person from whom he is derived and therefore the "dominant" one), just like the surviving Fire Giant, whom Marika cursed on the Giant Peaks, to force him to guard the Flame of Ruin for eternity.....and that his red hairs is simply a "reminder" of this similarity. From the japanese there are also details that suggest that the relationship between Radagon and Rennala was genuine, with mutual love.....but that, following having been "recalled" by Marika, Radagon had no choice in the matter, and was FORCED to leave Rennala to become the second Elden Lord, since his disobedience would have entailed severe consequences.....which probably occurred anyway, when Marika afterwards, tried to convince him to destroy the Elden Ring along with her, and in his first and also last act of disobedience to her, Radagon refused and tried to resist. And this was presumably the moment in which Marika re-assimilated him into her (she can do so as the "original" personality and dominant half of the two) and then tried to destroy the Elden Ring, only to encounter unexpected resistance from the inside, by Radagon, who in some moments, found the strength to take control, manifest himself ouf of Marika (as in the final bossfight) and attempt to repair the Elden Ring.

I also want to note that Corhyn sort of loses his mind when everything is revealed, and earlier on when you give him a prayerbook he calls it heresy and is very hesitant to teach its meaning. Miriel on the other hand says this: “Heresy is not native to this world, it is but a contrivance. All things can be conjoined. Let us learn together.” Not only that but he teaches you both sorceries and incantations. I think this furthers the idea of Radagon’s intent of conjoining, the Golden Order Fundamentalism of combining intelligence with faith, and working to bring all together. Even further, at the end of Goldmask’s questline, he has reached full understanding of fundamentalism, and his mending rune of perfect order is said to have been DISCOVERED, not created by him as with the other two runes. I believe this was left by Radagon in an attempt to fully fix that which was broken, and perfect the Order. The current order has lead to such destruction and pain: the misbegotten, omen, and all “graceless” beings are treated as inferiors, leading to rebellion and mass death, like castle Morne. The people blindly worship gods no better than men. The lords all scramble desperately for power. Fundamentalism seeks to incorporate learning, growing, moving past blind faith. Making right that which was wrong

What I find interesting is the relationship between Radagon with his children. Malenia and Miquella were apparently cared and nurtered despite suffer the influence of other Outer Gods, unlike the Omen twins, while his children with Renalla are elevated to the status of demigods. Is like he was trying to do what his can for his children, even if was not possible for himself. Is unfortunatte which we don't have Marika view on the children, expect that Godwyn was apparently the favorite and the speech that she give for them all.

Godwyn was the favorite because he wasn't afflicted, he had no curse. Then you have the Omen Twins, so grotesque in terms of how they look that Marika had them shackled and kept below the capital. I don't think they're Godfrey's tbh, if they were, then they would have turned out like Godwyn. All of Radagon's kids with Rennala have no affliction, we fight them in the game because Radahn has dementia, Reichard has been devoured by the serpent, and we don't fight Ranni. The second set of twins have scarlet rot and "eternal youth gone wrong". So yeah, they're not identical twins like the Omen Twins (I guess) so they got different curses. The twins who "didn't look so bad when they were born" got to live in the capital with their family, probably as time went on the parents realized that the twins are also cursed. Because of the outer Gods affecting the two twin pregnancies somehow, I think the Omen Twins might also be born of ONLY Marika. I really have a hard time understanding the relationship between Radagon and Marika, there was animosity there later on, so much so that she would belittle and taunt him.

Except for the Fire Giants, that are a direct menace for the Erdtree, the ones related to The Crucible are the ones to receive such hard punishment and stigma. The dragons are allowed to even make Cults. Plus, the interaction with Godfrey in the late game pretty much confirm that Omen twins are Godfrey childs, since he was banished from very Lands Between right after defeat the Giants, he had not chance to meet any of twins at any other circumtances.

I think we’re going to have to loop in Goldmask’s calculations about Marika and Radagon to understand more about their relationship. The way I see it, Marika is the aspect of destruction, of fighting, of death and rebirth. Radagon is the aspect of nirvana, of freedom from the cycles of violence. It’s no wonder that Marina’s offspring with Godfrey and Radagon are corrupt/omen-cursed/rotten/inbred-she can only breed destruction. Radagon, however, breeds creation, making demigods whose less pure bloodlines actually help them overcome the effect of Marika’s influence. I see Marika as an interesting inversion of the Christ myth-rather than a being that takes on death in order to usher in a new kingdom of life, Marika takes lives in order to usher in a kingdom of death, one that Radagon is staunchly opposed to in his desire to create and to mend. It’s no accident that each of the Elden Lord endings has a “mending” rune attached to it, because our job (like Radagon) is to mend things. Yet, in order to do that mending, we have to kill the remaining older order (like Marika wants). If Marika is Radagon, then Radagon is Marika-creation is destruction and destruction is creation. Like the theme of the Painted World DLC of Dark Souls 3 being to destroy the game world in order to have the material ashes to paint a new one, this game demands that we mend the pieces of the shattered game order into a complete whole game by conquering the parts of that game.

Marika as Queen, mother of demi-god, and the one that started the Erd Tree and Golden Order era, was reigning over birth of living being. Radagon, who devoted his life to serve the Golden Order and fought many battle to strengthen its influence, was reigning over life. The only one of those who might even be remotely close to a 'good person' is Morgott. Radahn- Harboured ambitions to be Elden Lord, and attacked Leyndell ferociously. Was a sorcerer-warlord obsessed with ideas of strength and rulership. Though he was very honourable and well-liked, he showed a clear unwillingness to negotiate with both Ranni and Malenia. Miquella- Just read the Bewitching Branch, Castle Sol ghost and Malenia's armour descriptions. He seems like a giant red herring, and the way he uses his power unscrupulously has exceptionally creepy implications. He was known as one of the most manipulative demigods. Even Malenia, in all her brutality, coldness and obsession with killing, thought of him as the most fearsome demigod. Radagon- Though it can be argued he didn't have freewill, he still massacred Rennala's armies in service to the Golden Order, and still reforged the greatsword his wife gave him out of a sense of loyalty. He also seems to have been estranged from his children. Morgott- He has the most excuses out of all, as he spent his early life in a sewer and was mostly self-taught in a world of might makes right, but the torture masks found in Leyndell reveal that he could be exceptionally cruel if he wished to.

Miquella might not be a good person. The way I interpreted the lore on his ability to influence people, I like to think Malenia was brainwashed into being his follower along with everyone else. He has no physical might of his own, yet Malenia calls him the most fearsome. Empyrian. How? He doesn't invent weapons, only remedies. I say, because he warps the minds of those close to him into serving, just like cordyceps, a fungus that bears a striking resemblance to the Scarlet Rot. Cordyceps enslaves insects it infects into spreading its spores by hijacking their nervous system. You know who else can do that? Miquella, especially with his Bewitching Branches that turn foe to friend. Its also part of my headcanon that Mohg is afflicted with Miquella's influence, but went Yandere, trying to keep Miq for himself. If Miq had Malenia and Mohg, he could easily have crushed every other demigod, but his hypothetical plan backfired.

@@alastor8091 I don't think there's any evidence for Miquella brainwashing Malenia; she already seems to have a good reason to follow him. This is because Gowry claims she hated the Rot and its followers, and Miquella's main aim for Elden Lordship was to cure Malenia's rot. We've also seen that Malenia is extremely callous with lives and morally unscrupulous, which Miquella tried to cover up with her statues in the Haligtree and its doctrine (despite not caring much about free will himself). If anything, Miquella wouldn't need to brainwash Malenia, but it might be possible he tried some of his tricks on Mohg and it went too far.

I think SmoughTown had the right of it - Marika and Radagon are an alchemical rebis. They're two minds sharing one body, that form a yin-yang relationship. Marika likely began life as a member of the Numen race, and was selected to be an Empyrean by the fingers, and eventually became the chosen vessel for the Elden Ring, becoming a god in her own right. It's likely that her ascension to godhood either fractured her mind or separated what was already in there, another personality. Marika was herself rash, defiant, and unpredictable, but her other half, Radagon, was leal, pious and loyal to the Golden Order to a fault. When they waged war upon Caria, it was the body of both that led the golden armies, though obviously in the bodily form of Radagon. Both Godfrey and Rennala were likely "duped" in that they had no idea that their spouse was one of two distinct personalities inhabiting a singular body. I believe that after she sent Lord Godfrey and the Tarnished away, that Marika was already formulating plans to defy the Elden Ring. She recalled the body shared by herself and Radagon, leaving Queen Rennala without a spouse, under the guise that Radagon was to become the next Elden Lord in the wake of Lord Godfrey's disappearance. Radagon essentially becoming husband to himself was never fully "required" for Marika's plan, but it did help create a reason for Radagon to leave Rennala and return to the Erdtree. I believe that their shared body needed to be within the Edrtree itself in order to potentially bring harm to the Elden Ring, hence the need for Radagon's return. Before the shattering, Marika/Radagon would go on to have at least two children, Miquella and Malenia, the cursed twin prodigies. I think it likely that Marika wanted as many demigods born as possible to potentially be chosen as Empyreans, so that she could one day be properly replaced and put out of her misery. She eventually enacted her plan to shatter the Elden Ring within the Erdtree, fighting with her other half, Radagon, all the while, as he attempted to fix it. She was punished and trapped within the Erdtree for her sin, where she reached out to her original contingency plan - the return of Lord Godfrey and the Tarnished.

It was a custom among the Carian family to gift a magical sword as a wedding present to the consorts, the same way Ranni gives us the Darkmoon Blade when we put a ring on it. The sword was supposed to represent the union between Radagon and Rennala and yet he reforged it to instead embody the Golden Order. Just like he mended Caria and Leyndell with his marriage, he united magic and faith into the Golden Order Greatsword. Well presented as always, Jake. I love how you try to piece it all together and interpret it as best you can. The Radagon/Marika twist doesn't seem like a big deal on the surface when you first play it. Like, huh, cool. But the deeper you dive, the crazier it is.

I think Radagon’s story is extremely sad. From what I understand he was created by Marika as an alter ego that ended up wanting to become its own being and he did everything he could to make that happen. Sadly all his efforts ended up being futile.

The Radagon we fight seems to be the physical form or the carrier of the Elden Ring. I think Marika and radagon were chosen to be carriers of the runes of causality and regression. Their purpose was to converge to form the physical creation of the golden order as the new form of the Elden ring. This is also when Marika plucks the rune of death and could explain her plan if TGW was planning to use regression to converge everything and start again or something?

I finally found a video about Radagon that shares more or less the same idea i have about him! Another factor where i see this "connection/mending" thematic with him is within the Golden Order Greatsword: at first glance, some may think that it represent the bond he broke with Rennala, he even forsakes the weapon that she gifted to him, by desining it after the Golden Order, but i actually think it represents the total opposite. Even after having to abandon his family because of his duty, like a gnawing curse, and the regression imposed on him, he actually wanted to carry a piece of his beloved family with himself at the Capital, he did not take a new sword, he brought the sword Rennala gave him and "updated" it with the Golden Order motif. He did not lose the connections, he wanted to keep them, just as much as he sought to be complete, he didn't abandon anything of what made him the man he is, didn't forget his first family, but carried it with him, as a piece of himself. His complete self. Another thougth would be regarding his boss fight: despite the epicness of it, it's also quite tragic, like many From "antagonists", to find him shattered, almost deprived of what made him his own self, not just phisically. We fight him as just "Radagon of the Golden Order", someone who wanted to do things from within the Order, while still keeping everything that made him what he was and i also agree on the take that sees him almost as a tool of the Greater Will. He fights only using the holy attacks, the part of him that keeps him in the Golden Order, what is left moving him (but despite that, traces of himself still linger, as he performs his signature move, the ash of war we would use, while fighting with Marika's hammer), whereas if we were to fight a peak version of him, a complete Radagon, he would do all sort of things "alla Soul of Cinder", both with weapons he used as a chamoion (maybe swords, like Rennala's) and with sorceries or incantations, which makes me wonder how cool it would be to face a past version of him

I believe that Radagon and Marika started out as separate beings, but, through some sort of magic/incantation/curse (maybe by the Greater Will), they were turned into one. Evidence for this can be found in several items which state that Radagon was possessed of crimson hair, that he hated his hair, as it was a sign of where he came from, and that crimson hair is a sign of the fire giants. This makes a good case for that Radagon was a frail and misshapen fire giant, which fits with several of From Soft's recurring themes, of characters that were outcasts from their groups, for being born different and/or frail, like Seath from Dark Souls 1. This would also explain why all Radagon's children are so damned big, Radahn being almost the true size of a Fire giant, Miquella being almost as big, and Melania being around 3-4 times the size of a human. (Godfrey is also big, but unlike Radagon and his children, Godfrey is only that big because of all his muscles)

Oh thank you so much for this comment because it makes so much sense! Given your description of Radagon's hair, I always thought that Radagon was some sort of punishment on Marika for what she did to the fire giants. A cursed remembrence that would haunt her. But your theory that he in fact was a fire giant beforehand makes so much more sense given how you linked the children's size into this. I still don't know where to fit the Golden Order into this. I am quite sure that Radagon was some sort of countermeasure from the Golden Order to hinder Marika's plans. Given how Marika refers to him as 'leal hound' of the Golden Order and how he tries to fix the Eldenring. It seems kind of weird to me that they should entrust a former enemy with this work... but still, Seath also betrayed his kin.

Thank you for sharing this video with us. I always thought that people assume Radagon as an uncaring or warmongering figure, when plenty of information from the lore states the opposite. He is such a mysterious character, and I’d argue even the same as Marika, since both their origins are unknown. But, even Marika was given pieces of dialogue ,or of her own way of thinking through the quotes we hear from Melina, while everything we hear from Radagon is given from other characters’ perspective. He is a character who was not given a voice of his own, but his actions tell of wanting to search for a way to mend things and better himself, even while bound by the golden order.

Dude, these videos keep getting better and better. Very nice work, keep it up man! I agree a lot with this interpretation, for many of the themes in this game. It gives the sense of this internal struggle that you find when looking at the yin yang symbol for example. Two opposites but joined together seeking balance and a form of harmony. Two sides of the same coin, the forger and the shatterer aspects of the same blacksmith. Creation and destruction duality. There's a good deal of mythology that all of these things could come from. Its not uncommon for gods in mythologies to represent different aspects of the same idea, even shifting forms, personalities, and even being gender fluid to represent different things like feminine fertility or masculine strength. I wholeheartedly think that Radagon is trying to be a good natured character as the mending aspect of the two sides, seen in his children as well. The cross-stitch pattern behind his statue is very similar the Norse Web of Wyrd, which is a symbol of the weavers of fate and destiny. And knowing many stories throughout mythology there are many gods and men that try to change the course bound by fate and act according to their own free will. This is seen in Miquella's needle, as well as all of Radagon's offspring wishing to forge their own path and defy or go against the Greater Will, which seems to have predetermined a set course for them and their purpose. This renewal process is often shown to be that of ushering in the new coming age as another act of mending and creation, which our character is also responsible for bringing about in the game. Cool analysis!

great work as always! the visuals in this video are incredible! not related to radagon but could the removal of the great rune of the unborn be a part of the reason miquella and malenia are both cursed? i know mohg and morgott are both omens and considered cursed by the olden order but since omens and godfrey are related to the crucible i personally connect their omenship to that in some way I've always interpreted radagon as less of a sympathetic character and more of an ends-justify-the-means kind of guy but i think you made a lot of good points to the contrary and a really interesting parallel with how radagon repaired the relationship between the golden order and the moon is how godrick repaired the golden order's relationship with the dragons. Both were major leaders in the golden order and allowed for cultural exchange between otherwise opposing factions- it's really cool how so much connects in this game! also at 11:01- if the host of the elden ring is made from stone could that be an influence as to why ancient dragon's scales are made from stone? i can't wait to hear your take on rennala :^)

The other day I noticed that an item-description used feminine pronouns for the character "St. Trina". It has been established that Trina is the same person as the empyrean Miquella, who is male. Maybe having a gender-swapped alter ego is not unique to Marika/Radagon.
@arcanaobscura3519

I still think Trina might be more some sort of a pseudoym than ...well, whatever Marika and Radagon have. I mean, what we see of Miquella seems to be rather androgynous (going so far, that he even had a voice actress and not an actor, as I learned from Zullie's latest video on Mohg*). And given how he tends to be some sort of trickster character (see bewitching branch description), changing his appearance to a female one seems like something he would do. *okay after I thought about it, the point about the voice actress seems rather irrelevant, since woman also voice male characters in other media. Still leave this in the comment since I think it's a fun fact.

Couple ideas: 1. Miquella and Malenia are both cursed and are the only children born of direct incest between Radagon and Marika right? Marika's kids with Godfrey are ok except for the Omen twins but I don't think the omen status is a curse personally it's just stigmatized by the Golden Order. 2. Maybe with a complete Elden Ring Marika was able to use the Rune of Rebirth to not just remake herself but clone herself into an entirely different person. Maybe she was able to break off a chunk of thr Elden Ring before completely shattering it and that's why Radagon was able to gift it to Rennala.

3:36, the egg itself was not the rune. The rune was INSIDE of the egg. The egg was one of Radagon's gifts to Rennala, not the rune. After all, Radagon was all against the ring's shattering. And since Gideon says that Ranni discarded her rune, I believe the rune inside of the egg was actually Ranni's rune because Marika gave the fragments to her demigod children only. Which probably is also why Ranni's spell took effect when the egg was unprotected. And it makes sense that Marika gave Ranni the rune of rebirth because she probably wanted to offer Ranni a chance to fully come back to life since she was the primary candidate to succeed her.

There is a hypothesis going around that Ranni hid her great rune on the moon, and it would correspond to the bottom of the elden ring. There is after all, missing great runes. Which I would assume to be Miquella's great runes and Ranni's. Although there could be more or less.

One of the ways I understand the amber egg is that the egg and the great Rune are different. I believe it is very likely that Queen Marika did not give a Great Rune to Rennala herself as she is not a Demigod, so instead Ranni gave Rennala her own great Rune instead to protect her.

I'm a bit late to this video, but I had heard that Ranni in the Japanese translation mentions that Radagon's soul had faded or something along those lines. His body may be there and is puppeted by the Elden Beast, but he might technically be dead or so far gone he might as well be. It would explain why he doesn't use the sorceries he learned with the Carians in his fight and only holy magic: the Elden Beast uses only the power of the Elden Ring, so it wouldn't be able to use sorceries like Radagon could.

An interesting theory about Radagon that I thought of but haven’t heard anyone else mention is that Radagon is a mimic tear of Marika. We know that Marika is Numen or at least related to the Numen in some way, and we also know from Rogier that the Numen have a presence in the eternal cities. I don’t think it’s coincidence that we can only get the mimic tear from progressing through the eternal cities. I also don’t think it’s coincidence that Marika’ soreseal is found below one of the eternal cities. Also the description of Mimic tear mentions how it was the result of an attempt by the Eternal City to forge a lord. I think there’s too much here for it to be coincidence.

While probably not at the beginning of each of their lives, I the whole "Radagon is Marika" thing is supposed to embody the alchemical concept of a rebis, the supposed ultimate goal of alchemy itself, the perfect "being", a body with a male and female half but still contains the minds of both. They were probably fused at one point or another (because they were clearly separate entities at one point), I'd wager that it was after Radagon had married Rennala and probably the reason why he left her. But yeah, too much we still don't know but hopefully there will be more to come!

Is that Skyrim music in the background ! Good choice my friend 👍 My theory is that the Golden Order didn't trust Marika to stay faithful forever therefore Radagon was born in Marika by the Golden order using the great rune of rebirth .. That's why when she doubted the order while at war with the Carians they used Radagon to go and marry Ranala to have a new line to inherit the Elden Ring , a new generation of Demigods that will stay faithful to the Golden order , but the order failed ..

Amazing video as always. Were you who recommended antonius's videos? I ended up really liking them especially the latin translation videos. It's not confirmed because the lyrics are changed to gibberish, but not so bad you cant find the words, but from radagons theme I got something like-- mighty harbor(or gate) goddess of war, iron(or fire) side of the goddess is masculine. The second part with elden beast sounds like its talking directly to you. Again it's not confirmed but the words dont seem too altered, but it sounds like elden beast or some god/s thanking you for learning the steps, and believing in them, recalls that you stepped from grace(being tarnished) but learned to re-enter them. The last part is hard for me but then I think it says - give it to me,please, let it go. Or please, stop the greedy one. One word from this I had to make a stretch for is dakra-ah. The closest thing I could find is drakaina, which is an ancient greek serpent dragon with the allure of a beautiful woman, and interestingly if marikas soreseal are her actual eyes, and going from our character getting golden eyes from dragon communion. I'm sorry this is such a long comment but the last thing I want to bring up is radagons hatred of the giants and his own red hair and another greek mythos where some goddess almost gets raped by a giant befor zues kills it I think... it's dark but I could explain where he came from and the celestial dew he drank might of gave him sentience or something, instead of being marikas loyal tool, he wants to replace her, I think...

Here's what I believe happened, based on my first playthrough, blind and reading everything I could when coming across them. In fact, I did not find out Marika and Radagon were the same until I fought him. The moment Marika's hair changed to red I screamed, "Radagon!?" probably the best twists I didn't see coming, but I digress. There's an item description or piece of dialogue that mentions red hair being a sign of a lineage to giants, I know this to heart and that Radagon disliked his red hair. I believe after the war or nearing the end of the war with the giants, Marika discovered a way of splitting oneself and used the essence of fire giants and/or fire giants themselves as a baseline. think like splitting her soul and placing it in another body, like how Ranni did with her ritual, minus the double murder. With this other half, she can rule from her throne and keep watch and command of her forces by personally expressing her will through this champion that seemingly came out of nowhere, to the masses. Radagon, a newborn in spirit with the Marika's pristine half, unaffected. Until he met Rennala. I believe that sparked the true birth of Radagon's self. I Do not believe Marika had a psychic connection with Radagon, but still kept close tabs on him. I would guess she was surprised to see Radagon fall in love with the enemy and seek matrimony, but allowed it for two reasons: The pacification of an enemy state, and interest in the unexpected choice her other self made that did not originally align with hers. Not to mention it being easier to keep watch on an old enemy. Radagon definitely seemed like a family man, and became more and more of his own person outside of Marika. He even had a dog. But the biggest surprise was when his children were born, something Marika would not have expected. I believe this was where she began setting major plans in motion, sending Godfrey off with his soldiers to become Tarnished, calling Radagon back to create empyrean children (The whole concept of Empyreans and what that means is still far beyond any of our guesses beside belief and speculation given Ranni being one yet being a daughter of Rennala and radagon), and ultimately waiting patiently for the time to come. Marika probably did want to defy the greater will, but not for any good purpose. Whatever Ofnir discovered, it scared him enough to deny the promise of the title and any who wanted it. Maybe Marika isn't actually dead? Maybe that's why radagon rises to fight you, to prevent you from being elden lord and fulfilling her plans. I'm eager for DLC, slavoring to see any more mysteries and answers come about from more content.

I believe that after defeating the Gloam Eyed Queen, Marika gave up a part of herself. Separating her personality prior to her ascension to godhood by the greater will. Off from her soul and flesh to persue the goals of her reign in a war on two fronts. Facing the fire giants to the north simultaneously with the Carian Kingdom of Liurnia in the south. The only two potential threats left. Bereft of those aspects I believe Marika became disillusioned with the greater will. In Marikas own words "Oh Radagon, leal hound of the golden order. You are yet to be me, you are yet to become a god."

I think you should look at rubedo, the last stage in western alchemy, it means red and represent alchemical success and the end of great work. The stage that proceeds this one is citrinitas , which means yellow, when we see marika fall and crumble we don’t see her body change, but we do see her hair go from gold to red. Perhaps marika represents citrinitas, which itself represents dawn and awakening, and radagon represents rubedo, the finished perfect product, the magnum opus, the perfect lord. Idk if you’ve maybe already gone over this or not but I thought it was cool.

I rattled on about this in the streams so I'll try and be concise here, but fair warning, I don't know where my ADHD is at today. I have thoughts on the nature of Radagon. What he is, and why he was created. First, the general confusion about how Radagon can be Merika if they're clearly two separate people, with different lives, different ideas, ect. Generally, and I'm guessing because I don't know Japanese and can't ask them myself, I wonder if this isn't as confusing in the East because of their ties to things like Buddhism or Hinduism. Religions that heavily utilize the concept of an avatar. Especially Vishnu and his ten avatars. The concept is that each one kind of symbolizes something. They existed to teach something, or for a particular task to be accomplished, but they are still characterized as being wholly unique. They are themselves, they are Vishnu, and they are each other. They've even existed at the same time. So you probably get the concept and where I'm going. Merika created Radagon as an avatar. But why. What was his purpose? Avatars always serve a purpose, they don't just exist for the God to be human for a while. Well it's my believe, based on how absolutely holier than thou he is, that Radagon was Merikas attempt to banish all of her immortal and earthly ties with the Golden Order into a singular being so that she could rebel. Perhaps she was physically incapable of doing so before, and it was the expelling of this nature into Radagon that allowed her to. This could explain why Radagon was trying to repair the Elden Ring. All he is is loyalty to the order. And with this fundamental nature of herself banished, she could act against the Greater Will. She could send her avatar away to give a vital great rune to a house only tangentially related to the golden order. It'd be safe there. She could also restore the relations between many of these groups. She'd likely need a world that isn't feuding with itself to fully return the Elden Ring to humanity* (and human adjacent beings, no offense). She also needs an Elden Lord. This is a fact dictated by the Greater Will, yet she somehow maintains the power and consciousness to send her beloved and his cohort away. She actively empties the throne. How could someone tied to the Greater Will do all this without them knowing or being able to stop her? Well what if it can't, because she left that part of herself in her avatar? Sooooo?! How about it? *because I also believe the Elden Ring existed on Earth first, and the Greater Will took it over. Erecting his Erdtree to protect it, and dictating a series of safeguards to maintain his order, such as eradicating the Giants, who's flame could burn his tree and free the Elden Ring. I believe Merika wanted to banish the Greater Will and return the Elden Ring to the Earth. The Elden Stars miracle is lying when it says the Elden Ring came to Earth WITH the Elden Beast.

That makes his plight so much more tragic. This man was happily married, only to be meddled with by an outer God. Then his kid screws things up even more causing his new betrothed to screw things up even more. I imagine every time The Greater Will took more and more of Radagon's free will to the point that he is stripped of his personality near completely when attempting to fix the elden ring.

i think, based on certain in-game evidence like the 2nd phase of the elden beast fight and the sacred relic sword, that Radagon was the true vessel of the Greater Will. Marika was once its representative and vassal, but her intent to delve to the deepest mysteries of the golden order disrupted that relationship, possibly through her discovery of its imperfections. she obviously comes to criticize and distrust the greater will later on (which ties into further theories about Melina's identity and parentage) but Radagon--the leal hound of the golden order, its closest adherent and greatest champion--never once broke faith for this reason i believe the Greater Will itself insisted on the alchemical marriage of Marika and Radagon: this outer god called itself the Greater Will but as we've seen, outer gods can be successfully resisted by the wills of demigods and even lowly tarnished. what about a god in truth? could Marika's will ultimately be as strong, as influential, as that of the Greater Will? i think the answer is yes, and for that reason the Greater Will essentially inhabited the body of Radagon, a wholly willing vessel, and Marika couldn't resist the two of them combined (Openly, at least) this could also explain Radagon's marriage to Rennala: a mere witch, who nonetheless successfully resisted both the golden order and the greater will: Radagon meant from the beginning to break the mind and power of the Greater Will's strongest enemy, whose ancestors traditionally allied themselves with the fire giants keep in mind that Godfrey was MARIKA'S champion but Radagon was always and only the champion of the greater will

Though this comment is not related to to radagon I am confused by effects of celestial dew which essentially mean that we can repair any bond with any npc so when we tend to inherit frenzy flame and use miquela s needle to leave the flame why can’t we use celestial dew to mend our relationship with melina

Radagon... Marika's ultimate Killswitch by the two fingers. The most ambitious side of queen Marika... Desired to be complete... Sired many children... to both humans and demi humans, fathered many leonine misbegotten... enraged Ranni leaving her beloved mother... miis understood, he desire to mend everything... fix the order... but alas, Ranni caught everyone off guard... including the good heroic Radagon. I can only imagine how he felt when Marika ordered him to leave his first family and love... duty vs love.

There's this line in the game spoken from Marika to Radagon- "You are yet to become me" that really beggars belief in my theory crafting. It makes me think they were actually separate beings- Radagon's feverish attempt to restore the Elden Ring takes in the vessel of the Ring itself thus joining the two as one. I really like the idea that even as a potential offshoot of Queen Marika- Radagon tried to become his own person. interesting stuff, cool to read all the theories on here :)

I really appreciate the time you've taken to analyse this most significant yet mysterious of characters in Elden Ring, and also how with the evidence you have provided, he is actually quite a sympathetic character. Yet if I was to make a mythological comparison for Radagon, I am left with someone who is far from sympathetic. I'll be doing my own things in regards to Elden Ring Lore, but I will not forget your theories proposed here at all. Great work.

Just an idea, what if Merika used the rune of unbirth to change into radagon in an attempt to escape the greater will. Going so far as to be a redhead warrior akin to giants. Changed her magical arts to physcal one akin to the soreseals. Rebirthed as radagon she might have also willingly forgo her mind aswell. To live a new life.. A free life.. But the greater will realized the rune of unbirth was gone and conmisioned members of the golden order to create laws of regression to undo its affects. But sadly the spell caused a fusion of both merika and radagon in one body instead of reversal. Radagon then left the rune of unbirth with rannala as a final gift and hint of what happened.

Maybe it could be related to Berserk, how Griffith had become Femto and then in the last arc he went back to being griffith.

Think Raddagon is an outter God in flesh that came from Marika back when she was chosen. Perhaps an outter god was in her and she seperated herself from it when she realized something wasnt right about the Eard Tree.

From Software always leaves things open to form your own opinions. So from what I gathered while going about the lore through my own gameplays, it feels to me like Marika had a split personality. A form of Dissociative Personality Disorder. That would go on to explain why Marika and Radagon had conflicting actions. Her shattering the ring and Radagon trying to mend it. Since Marika is literally a God, she was able to manifest her personality into what we know as Radagon. If you know about Dissociative Personality Disorder, the other personality or personalities have different traits, physical and mental. The same person acts, behaves, thinks and talks (even with an accent sometimes pertaining to the personality taking over at that moment) as a different human altogether. These personalities could be of opposite sex and be of any age, even a child. Hence, Radagon was a male red haired personality that was a manifestation of Marika herself given form. As to them having children, it can only be assumed that either Marika was asexual as we don't know much about Numen race aside from the fact that they are from "another" world. It is very much possible that the Numen Race could be asexual beings. This is the theory that makes most sense to me....

Radagon and Miquella are my favourite characters. Why? Purely because they want to help. They want change. Just like Marika did. Some others don't care too much, but Marika did this only to change the entire thing. Radagon wanted to help bring peace, order and happiness to his land, while Marika thought that it was beyond saving, and so decided to try and destroy the Order.

Radagon as a fragment of Marika created through the use of Great Runes and the power of the Golden Order makes a lot of sense. Radagon would hold a great love for the Golden Order, almost as his parent, and as a fragment his drive may be to be united and build a world of order- a deep, unexplainable desire. Imagine if he never knew he was a fragment of Marika, and then the Elden Ring was shattered.

I wonder if Radagon's forced parting from Rennala via the Greater Will played any part in Ranni's intense dislike of the notion of being "controlled by that thing." We can see Blithe actively lose control of himself, becoming horribly unfamiliar and lacking in the ability to enforce his will, and Iji predicted this would happen. Whether or not it's true that the Greater Will took Radagon away from Rennala, it certainly lends very personal credence to the necessity of Ranni's actions to sever herself from its control.

Character designs like Radagon are what keep me coming back to Elden Ring. There’s just not another game with a lineup of such utter gigachads. This man has not only sick hair and a goddamn Thor hammer, but TWO WIVES. And that’s literally just Radagon, that’s not even talking about Godfrey, or Godwyn, both absolute chads in their own rights. This game fucks
