The snow queen interaction with Kai reminds me a lot of Chronicles of Narnia and Edmund. There’s no way that’s just a coincidence, it’s too similar.

CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien were professors, as well as friends, at Oxford University. Both were familiar with Nordic lore. So no, it is no coincidence that Edmund and the Snow Queen seem familiar.

I loved Frozen when it came out and still do. 🥰 It’s so interesting seeing where they got the inspiration for the story. Hansel and Gretel though, how did I not realize how messed up it was? Like, as a kid, the whole witch-cooking-Hansel thing was just... normal plot material? 😂

Thank you for this! Bringing even more depth to Tales I grew up with, in Europe. Part 1 of Snow Queen had always spoken to me, at a deeper level, as many other folk tales also, before they were Disney-fied

@hennye2449 Oh, ‘Disney-fied’ I love that! I'm going to start using that. It’s so true. The original stories have such a depth that Disney just can’t quite capture. Part 1 of The Snow Queen definitely hits different. Thanks so much for watching!✨

I've always really liked the Snow Queen. I see that when in Frozen Shidisney adapted it when Elsa first turned to the winter side the was very close to the original story. That was actually my favorite part of the movie! Although I live in the south my favorite season of all is the winter and has been since childhood. There is even winter season music (not Christmas music anthough I do highly favor ancent Carols) and I have over the years collected many hours to listen to during the season. The Snow Queen story and all of it's retellings outside of Shidisney have always been a favorite of mine. Great vid.

I was surprised at the omission of what seems to be an important point about The Snow Queen. Gerda's journey is clearly a version of the Hero's Quest, but it's unusual. Kai is the only male character in the story & he needs to be rescued after being abducted, enchanted & effectively imprisoned by a woman. All the characters who help Gerda along the way are also women. Kai is basically the damsel in distress & Gerda is the brave knight. That's pretty radical for a story published in 1844. I kept waiting for it to be mentioned but it never was.

What is your main source of information for the Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen fairytale origins??? I have read or heard some but I would love to explore more of them ❤❤❤❤
@MystikManorАй бұрын
@stephanievazquez4384 Thanks so much! 💜I pull from a mix of primary texts, folklore collections, and academic research on fairy tales. For Grimm, I often reference original translations of Grimm's Fairy Tales, and for Hans Christian Andersen, I dive into his original published works. Sometimes I also incorporate insights from folklore studies and comparative mythology to add context. If you’re looking to explore more, I’d highly recommend checking out The Annotated Brothers Grimm by Maria Tatar-it provides historical context, scholarly commentary, and visual illustrations.😊

@katerees-williams I agree 100%! Just look at what they did to The Little Mermaid, yes Halle Bailey is a great singer but she is NOT Ariel. It makes me really sad that it seems the real stories just get replaced like it’s nothing. I am also not participating in anything Disney! Enough is enough.

It also seems an insult to other cultures, that they can only be shoehorned into European tales. If only Hollywood could make stories of the mythology and folklore of many cultures instead of trying to rewrite the stories of one.

Most of these stories have been "replaced" since the beginning. Many of these fairytale characters die or have fates worse than death. You want children to see that?! I suppose reading about a teenage girl being molested in her sleep only to give birth 9 months later is okay as long as everyone has pale skin? You people are disgusting and I hope your lives always reflect the blackness in your hearts.
