I always thought the shows premise was wierd and too short to garner a whole show about it. But woah, your whole analysis just blew my mind.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, but don't take it too seriously. It's quite an absurd take 😂

Man will never change and will always self destruct. Such a dark and real conclusion to an otherwise hilarious (on the surface?) series. Chills. Literal Chills.

Thanks, man! Grew up on Atkinson myself as well, so I can relate. Definitely a hilarious piece of comedy if you're into his other similar work!

I might have dismissed this show for seemingly being less up-my-alley, but your thesis about its intersection between slapstick & the human psyche makes me excited to give it a try. Always excited when I see a new video from you in my timeline! PS You also always manage to make me learn things (e.g., Kuleshov effect) without ever feeling pedagogical which is a tough balance to strike but I really appreciate haha

Thanks a bunch, Johnny. I'm always very pleased to read your comments; means a lot when someone with such top quality content like yourself likes the stuff I come up with. Makes me think I must be doing something right! As for Man vs Bee... This whole video was, to an extent, a stray thought I had when watching the show that I basically pumped full of steroids until it became large enough to make a video out of. Don't take it too seriously, though; it was mostly made in the vein of the occasion (released this on April Fool's), as I thought that was the only time I could get away with posting such a wild analysis. I am also definitely exaggerating with the relevance of the Kuleshov effect here, so while I am glad I managed to impart something new unto you, I regret that it wasn't done in a more important context. Regardless, I'm glad you enjoyed this, but don't hate me if you watch Man vs Bee and realize that it most likely is just straightforward slapstick!

@@failureoncommand Always feel the same about your comments! And “a video full of steroids” is a phrase I’m going to steal, but finding unexpectedly deep commentary about things that seem silly on the outside is one of my favorite corners of video essays. Much more fun to learn about Kuleshov here than a textbook!

This really resonated with me! I wasn’t familiar with the Kuleshov effect🤔 Reminds me of using transition shots to evoke a specific feeling for the viewer. Your ending is so funny! And bitter sweet. Sadly the war inside will never end but one must still move forward as best we can. Thank You Mason! Excellent Analysis 👏

Thank you so much, Colin! Really appreciate it, glad I could inform. This video was actually meant to be a form of over-exaggerated, over-analysis of Man vs Bee based on a random thought I had when watching the ending ("oh wow, look, now that he's accepted himself he's finally letting the bee go. That's so sweet... Oh, he isn't. Okay, nevermind.") I was trying to make the equivalent of an April Fool's video but at the same time keep it as subtle as possible by presenting the video normally and basing my analysis in a very possible (if overly analytical) interpretation. Seems my shits and giggles were not conveyed well enough, though lol. Either way, I'm happy it resonated with you and others despite the fact. Goes to show how badass and intelligent FOC viewers are (tooting my own horn doesn't count as self-centered if I involve my subscribers in it is as well lol)

Unrelated to this video (though it was way deeper than I expected), but I was wondering if you watched Succession? With the new season starting, it would be cool to hear your opinions on the themes of the show. It really takes flawed characters to the absolute max, which seems to be a running theme in your videos, between this one, the Whale one, and the BCS one. Probably worth leaving it until the season is over, and I'd like to hear your thoughts on it as a complete piece.

Haven't seen Succession, but at your recommendation, started it yesterday. I'll hopefully have caught up by the end of the season, and will make a video on it if it is sufficiently interesting (as it appears to be thus far). Thanks for pointing me in its direction!

@@failureoncommand hey no problem, surprised you haven't seen it already, it seems very much in your wheelhouse. I love the way it's filmed, it has this really naturalistic documentary-style camera work, and they actively encourage improvised moments, and pan and zoom in on random actors to capture genuine moments of reaction and expression. And there's a lot to be said about method acting, but nobody can deny that Jeremy Strong turns in the performance of a lifetime. His character arc is a video essay begging to be made. Such a profound exploration of guilt and anxiety and responsibility and what it means to be honest with yourself and who you are. Hope you enjoy it!

I hated the series. It’s animal abuse and should NOT have been filmed from the beginning!
