@@blackpowderkun except the part where the air still cannot escape the gravity well. The only way for the moisture to fully be removed would be for the solar winds from the suns to blow it off. And by that point, there's no atmosphere anyway, and anything on the planet is dead. If air could just leak out through ozone layer holes, we'd've long since suffocated. Without solar winds blowing everything off, eventually, the moisture would just accumulate and precipitate. Mars is a great example of this. Mars' EM field was worn down and quit, and once it got weak enough, the solar wind blew off most of its atmosphere. Orbital bombardment may leave holes, but that just means radiation leaks through more easily. Seeing as tatooine is hospitable enough for life to breathe, that means it has a strong EM field, meaning the moisture is somewhere inside the planet, assuming actual physics. But star wars isnt known for even half-decent physics, so....

I'm thinking of the eyes of Jawas and Tuskens. It comes to my mind that their hidden appearance gives at least a clue to their eyes, with their evolutionary history. I think that the Tusken eyes diminished in the darkness making them rely on other senses and those protruded but circumferentially small goggles works like human spectacles/binoculars. And that the Jawas developed more sensitive eyes to cope with the darkness and that their eyes really are big, and that's why they use goggles which circumference is bigger. Just my head canon. Please give your own opinions and reasoning if you notice this comment. But I think my version would also go with the Jawas being more cute with big eyes and Tuskens being menacing with small eyes.

Ever since learning about the peculiarities of Tatooine metal it's been my headcanon that the Rakata unleashed some kind of darkside nanotech when they glassed the planet and it then worked its way into all metal on the planet. No clue if they did it intentionally or just accidentally shot up some of their old gear and it got mixed in with the rest of the debris... Either way it would be an interesting story hook for a book or an RP campaign, you could have the PCs be assisting an imperial scientist looking for ways to weaponize the metal plague by getting it to spread to other metal, or attempt to create clean metal and corner the market.

There was a star map infused with darkside energy. That's why Revan went to the planet twice. Over the millenia star maps just like it across the galaxy developed glitches as they decayed and repaired themselves. Those planets usually received unique features and resources as a result. Tatooine just got the short end of the stick.

I would have honestly just liked Jawas to basically be Maz Kanata's race, they all pretty much look like her, and the reason why their eyes glow is because they use goggles that glow, mistaking that to be their eyes. Maz could be a force sensitive Jawa! Who just never chose the way of Jedi or Sith, and at one time was a scavenger just like the rest of her race, who left that way of life. Afterall why cant Jawas be force sensitive?

Jawas drive fortresses, fire guns, and use droids. Ewoks have stone spears and pulley-system traps. Ewoks seem stronger and more nimble than Jawas, but Jawas appear to have a surplus of speeder bikes. Ewoks are more aggressive and depend mostly in ambush tactics. Jawas don't seem to be fighters and depend on putting themselves in the safest position to fight from. They seem to have good sense to get out of trouble, however, and that could help them survive a lot of the traps and surprises the Ewoks threw at them. The real question I have is, WHERE are they fighting? They both use tactics that fit their contrasting environments (jungle/desert). If in desert or neutral ground, I put my money in Jawas. If in jungle, I pick Ewoks.

There’s no way the Kumumgah turned into jawas. They did not go from 5’10” and up sentient humanoid beings, to 3 foot rat creatures covered in fur. I could see them being the sand people wrapped like mummies, but Jawas were some lesser being that was always there and survived the bombing.
