Geetsleys: the tuskens werent as bad as we thought Anakin: nervous laughter
@callmev35314 жыл бұрын
In retrospect, it only makes Anakin’s killing of the Tusken’s and Darth Vader’s attack on them in the canon comics that much more tragic. Had he not been so consumed with rage and hate, he could have likely seen that he wasn’t just killing “animals” or “vicious, mindless monsters”....but families. Sure he mentions how he killed women and children, but this episode allows us to actually see that these are indeed people, flawed but not without merits and a capacity for honor. Something Anakin and we the audience never really got to see, which makes the massacre’s full weight be somewhat lost on both him and the audience, as previous portrayals of Tusken’s show them as being hostile savages that are almost constantly attacking someone.

I always love when movies give a more detailed perspective on seemingly primitive or evil factions or characters. From the perspective of the original trilogie and the prequels, the Tuskens were nothing more than brutal seemingly reasonless killing monsters, but by introducing stuff like in the Mandalorian, you show the audience that even those who seeem purly evil are often also just victims of their circumstances and environment and just act like this to protect themselves, their beliefs and environment.

Close, but not quite. I am part American Indian (what most call Native American), and my Ancestors were Half of the Picture. The Severe and ingrained form of the Bedouins' Ancient and sometimes Draconian "Blood Vengeance" (they are Much better about it nowadays) is the inspiration for the OT's Tusken Behavior; the Iroquois Confederacy (my Ancestors) and other American Tribes/Civilizations are more cautious, and due to the necessity of forgiving for the sake of the Larger Civilization. This is something that the Bedouin Tribes did not need until the last thousand or so years due to their nomadic and Singularist tribal nature. The American Tribes (even the Central and South American ones) have had many Civilizations rise and fall over the last 20,000+ years, which necessitated Diplomacy and (a sometimes Grudging) Forgiveness, but the Bedouin peoples only gained this over the last thousand years due to their being the sole occupiers of their Native Territory. Different Locations result in different Circumstances. Please understand that I am not judging the Ancestry of the Bedouins; I do however judge my own Ancestors for some of their disgusting practices (such as ritual Cannibalism), which the Bedouins seem to have not developed due to a harsher set of Living Circumstances.

The Tuskens who tortured and murdered Anakin's mother certainly committed an atrocity, but we don't know how typical their behavior was- those might have been 'rogue' Sand People with special hatred for the moisture farmers. The Tuskens in 'The Mandalorian' came across as far more reasonable; if you showed them respect and paid the crossing toll, they would leave you alone. Unfortunately, Anakin was too grief-stricken and furious to make any distinction.

The tuskins are like the bedouins of the star wars universe. As a half bedouin myself, I appreciate the fact they're not portraying them as savages. More like desperate survivors.
@soundwavesuperior284 жыл бұрын
There is a direct correlation between the two. If these “desperate survivors” resort to savagery in an attempt to survive, then they are eligible considered savages by a civilized society. The Tusken Raiders mercilessly and ruthlessly tortured Anakin’s mother, tied her up, let her bleed out, only keeping her alive long enough to tell her own son she loved him. “They were not prone to violence” Although not every Tusken Raider tribe is the same, I’m sure, these raiders willingly fired on podracers who had done nothing, seemingly for sport. On top of that, there’s no implication that the Tusken raiders consume human flesh, or that they were cannibals (humans were allegedly part of the Tusken raiders, though in small numbers), we can infer that they attacked Luke with the intent of torturing him like Shmi - or worse, killing him for sport. Just because the Tusken Raiders had a culture or a basic grasp of warfare doesn’t mean that Anakin was wrong when he referred to them as “animals”. These creatures lurking in the taverns, ravens, and sandy dunes of Tatooine are by no means, civilized. They are in fact savages that display clear signs of savage behavior. Who cares if they show signs of being ‘nice’? That is only one side of their multidimensional “society”. As matter of fact it’s barely even a side - it’s a fraction, at best.

Tusken Raiders: Kidnap Shmi and torture her Oh they’re not that bad

Considering foreign settlers have no qualms about killing Tuskens, they’re not really more evil in comparison, it was mostly Crime groups pitting both sides together to make money anyway

Now that we've seen the legendary Krayt Dragon in canon It will be impossible for writers to resist having someone riding one. Here's hoping its a Tusken Jedi.

I always liked the tusken raiders their design is very unique. I didn’t like their design for a while but I grew to love their design and their history.

Anyone else feel bad for the tuskens in Kotor after talking to the chief...and then slaughter the village to get one of the few krayt dragon pearls?
@DARKANGEL576254 жыл бұрын
No, they were animals and I slaughtered them like animals.

Glassed the planet... Time turned it to a desert. Sounds like Australia. Neil Gaimen told a story in a sandman comic. Aborigines walking into a desert, poking at the shards of green glass found there... Retelling the oral traditions of the lost city... I wonder if that was what the Christians and the like refer to as the tower of Babel.

How the settlers treat the Tuscans is terrible, but despite this, I still can’t fault Anakin’s reaction.

Haven’t seen the new season of the mandalorian yet but I’ve always had a soft spot for the tuskens, I knew there was more to them than just raiding and kidnapping glad this new episode lets in on some insight to their world and way of life
@cameronstewart66364 жыл бұрын
I always had a dull curiosity about the Tuskens and I noticed that neither the empire nor the rebellion paid any particular attention to them. The Mandalorian does excellent at building the non-force user element of the sw universe. Season two has still been amazing

This raises a question about the relationship between humans and tuskins if communication is possible can coexistence be achieved. Can human settlements develop peacefully and the Tuskins no longer have to rely on raiding for survival but though open trade like the Jawas or is it just the tuskins mando was with simply more hospitable than other tribes that are so aggressive at the sight of humans no dialogue is possible. Like the tribe that kidnaped and tortured Anakin’s mother. Or was the threat of the sand dragon so great that their petty squabbles were meaningless.

Also I'd love to see Anchorhead in live action, it's been set as the most advanced and civilized of Taatooine settlements Also what does Mos mean as a settlement. We have Mos Eisely, Mos Espa, and Mos Palto. The naming has to mean something.
@circustrainstudios3414 жыл бұрын
Mos probably means "settlement" or something. Similar to "Tel" over in the middle east. (I may be a bit off in my real-world parallel).

I think it's a good representation of how two societies who neither understand nor respect one another can descend into an endless bloody cycle of feuding. I played KOTOR 1 a long time ago, so I've known for a long time that the tuskens have some nuance to them, but it's great seeing them fleshed out in a major production like the Mandalorian.

Can you do the Sith Empire in Darth malgus time and the cold war that followed
@darthplagueis134 жыл бұрын
Well... They may have their reason, but I'm gonna be honest here: There's no justifications for abducting defenseless individuals and torturing them to death. Like, if Shmii Skywalker was just killed in a raid, either because she participated in combat or as a colateral casualty that would be one thing, but once you torture people just for cruelty's sake, you are crossing a line. That's not to say that the settlers were more in the right than the tuskens, but it's enough to make them kind of difficult to redeem.

To be fair, that was a single clan. I doubt all of them are like that.

I actually never considered he raiders a monsters just their like anyone try to protect their home, people, and resources since all of those things are scarce and when unknown individuals already consider them monsters diplomacy’s unlikely. Also side note the clip about revan’s protocol droid being able to speak their language is from a Star Wars game called knights of the old republic I loved playing it when I was younger.

This video really supports the theory that luke's aunt and uncle *were* killed by raiders and he was misled to believe the empire did it.
@skryptre4 жыл бұрын
I think their just as un/reasonable as everyone else. Shmi was an example of them taking things beyond reasonableness, as I've seen no evidence that she was in charge of any environmental or otherwise affront against the sand people. Just like other people groups, they are prone to these sorts of indirect manifestations of aggression against those who have done them little to no harm, or against a stereotypic group in lieu of the few in charge.
@Little-She-Devil3 жыл бұрын
Tusken raiders are much more interesting than I formerly thought. They deserve more credit then what they got in the movies. I want to see a Star Wars movie with more of the tusken raiders customs and daily life style.

the tuskens reminds me of the germanic tribes, they just wanted to live in their forests and respect it, but then the romans came in, the same with the tuskens, they just wanted to live there life, until others just came in being savage to there lands and lifes. it,s not their fault that they sometimes are savage to outsiders.
